These are your in-laws? Why isn't your wife handling this? I'm not suggesting you have no part, but this sounds like a situation to possibly defer to her - especially since the $2,500 doesn't appear to be a major deal to you considering you'd consider eating it.

If you get a check great if not write it off and move on. You have made it clear money isn't an issue to you so if you don't get it shouldn't be a huge issue long term. Stuff happens.

Dont say anything but definitely cash the $1000 check from Xmas. This should get the ball rolling.

Im guessing its stale by now. Don't checks have like a 3 or 6 month expiration date or something similar usually? Or is that just business checks?

Plan another trip that costs $10k. Make the in-laws pay the deposit. Then back out a couple of weeks before the date.

If you don't nip this in the bud, they will never learn.

The shark move is to have this thread deleted while it is still the weekend.
:goodposting:

BFS and I almost never agree on anything. So it has to be something pretty special to unite us in the same cause. This lame-### thread is that cause.
You could've argued politics with someone in the FFA for 35 seconds during the time it took to write this post... Get back to the important stuff

Maybe they gave it them because he took his money out of the market at an inopportune time
