On which side? It's not that easy to move from the left to right. Assuming McNeil stays on the left.
Im not going to pretend I know which side would fit him better. But I doubt you move McNeil. So Baker goes to the right

LAJock sent me the Smith pick via PM. I think it's pretty good, but can't wait to hear what the Cowboys homers say.

WAIT... I'm here and have been here; changed my mind... want Aqib Talib - CB.

I just don't see how Calais Campbell can be considered a first rounder anymore. He had a down year and has shown nothing in the post season other than that he's slow.
I'm with you in that assessment. I don't want the Jags reaching in round 1 for CC. But, I have feeling that they would if the draft shook out this way.

he went at 19 in the previous one of these we did to Philly. For Sd I peronsally hope we get - K Balmer, or one of Baker,WIlliams,Otah,Cherilus.

I considered Philips, but with Sd just resigning Hart, moving up to get Weddle last year and burning a supplemental pick on Paul Oliver I think the secondary is set.

It's Also AJ SMith MO to grab linemen late in drafts, so we'll see.

Would they consider Kenny Phillips? Perhaps an offensive lineman?

I had originally planned on taking Smith because of his versatility and because he is the "safer" of the two. After thinking it over a little more, I reverted back to Talib. I think Talib has more natural talent and definitely more big-play potential. On the flipside, he also has a lot more risk (off the field issues). In the end, Talib's upside and abilities as a return man trump the risk associated with him.

I think he's a 3rd rounder. He had two straight mediocre seasons since his solid sophomore year. He had a disappointing Combine, Pro Day, and Senior Bowl (where I think he was finally exposed), and simply lacks the athletic chops to handle extremely athletic ends or get to the 2nd level run blocking. He is a solid short area technician who will not excel in the NFL unless he plays guard. He was half the player Winston Justice was. He just hit the program with such a huge rep that it held over for three years. :goodposting:

24. Tennessee (scrumptrulescent) - Kentwan Balmer, DT, North CarolinaTennessee decides against taking the risk with Devin Thomas, but instead, takes Haynesworth's new protege who can learn side-by-side with one of the best. With these 2 DT's, Tennessee would shut down opposing running games and create a push up the middle against the pass. The Titans decided against getting caught up in a WR run in this draft.
Interesting, I thought for sure you would take Thomas.
I'm tired of everyone locking Tennessee to a WR in the 1st and I'm not a huge fan of this WR class, especially at the top. Tennessee never picks a WR in the 1st round and the times the Titans struggled most last year was when Haynesworth was hurt. It's a move that makes sense imo.
Love the pick, although DE is possible as well. VDB/Balmer/Haynesworth/Kearse makes for a nice front. I'll be shocked if the Titans don't take a WR in the 2nd, but I like this pick here.
Thanks. The Titans have a bunch of wr's on their roster. None of them are #1 go to guys but are there any obvious #1 go to guys in this draft? I considered DE but who? Campbell, Groves, Jackson? I don't really like any of them in the 1st. I feel better about Balmer here. VDB is solid and at least they have some potential getting Kearse back on the other side. I like Tennessee's hard nosed style D in the nasty AFC South. It's what helps them contend every year. I think Balmer fits.

This is a no-brainer pick. Teaming up with Manny Lawson and Patrick Willis, Groves would give the 49ers the outside pass rush they desperately need. His lasting this long for them takes the sting out not having their original pick.

I think I'd prefer a different corner here, but we both know they cannot leave the 1st round without the best secondary player on their board at one of these two picks. I'll just be happy when they start adding talent to that secondary. I do think Talib's stock was way too high at one point and is on the way down right now. His play is not up to his reputation and his off the field reputation is taking shots. If he cannot cover Jordy Nelson then don't draft him. I gave Andy a list of 4 corners for my next pick in case I was gone, and Aqib wasn''t on it. :goodposting:

Phillips, perhaps. I don't know if they would select an offensive lineman at 26 unless it was one of the ones taken earlier. I know I would.I believe this mock is the worst case scenerio for the Jags. As a fan, I would really hope for a trade down at this point.

I guess I put a lot (too much?) stock in multiple year starters at the elite schools.

WR RunI’m probably jumping a bit early on this guy, but Washington need a WR and this guys a mountain. 6ft-7 screams red zone. He has the pace to outrun most defenses and has a great leap and good hands.

I’ll take the chance
If the Skins do take Hardy(or another WR) what does that do for the values of Moss and Cooley?

interesting take.
no offense. I've been slamming Sam around here for a couple years now. He'll probably be great and if AJ drafts him then I'll shut up. I tried to think of who I would have taken for SD there and... they are a tough team to project.
I would be lying if I said I knew a ton about him. I doubt AJ drafts him, he always make odd first rounders, except for Merriman. Rivers,ACro,CDavis all seemed like reaches at the time

Drafts like this show me that nobody gives crap about the NFC West.

Their teams draw very little interest when calls go out for a GM or a pick is made.

I had originally planned on taking Smith because of his versatility and because he is the "safer" of the two. After thinking it over a little more, I reverted back to Talib. Can't argue too much against Talib. But I do worry a lot about the Pot issue. I probably would have gone Flowers were I picking. I have him as a higher rated CB than Talib. But one can certainly debate the CB order, particularly after the big 3.Kenny Philips would also be tough to pass here. I suspect he's got a 1st roudn grade, maybe the only remaining player on the board with that. But Dallas gets handcuffed by must having to get a CB. The guys available at 61 will most definitely be a tier below either Talib or Flowers. Thats not a risk Dallas can take.I'm sure some would lobby for either Jackson or Manningham here as well. Maybe they rate this high, maybe they don't. Personally, I don't think so, but whatever. The bottom line is Dallas had to take CB here.

I gotta believe that Philly would be offering a package with Lito and some picks to trade up to get the dropping Phillips right now if this were a real draft.....

Love Kenny Phillips in this spot and see him as somewhat of a steal here. This is a big improvement for the Giants secondary.

I thought about going with Connor or Mayo, but Phillips is too good to pass up.

Definitely. I'd wager they'd be able to get something done with the Chargers.
Where Phillips lands will be interesting. Top Safeties have been heavily coveted the last few drafts, but many pundits seem down on Phillips. I think he might be one of the more surprising guys who gets drafted much earlier and by some unexpected team. Then again, he may sink like a stone in the draft.

For the 2nd round, I'm going to go more of the "I think they should take this guy" route rather than the "I think this is who they take" path.

A mock draft with Cason going to Green Bay? :lmao: I haven't seen that before.
Don't like it?
Maybe it's because I've seen it so many times, it's starting to get old. I get mixed reports on Cason. He's perfect for bump-n-run, he's better for a zone system....he's going to be a good cover corner, he's better suited to FS at the next level. And how often does TT follow what GB's needs are in the 1st round? He's a BPA guy from the start. I wondered about Phillips here since he'd fallen this far.

Drafts like this show me that nobody gives crap about the NFC West. Their teams draw very little interest when calls go out for a GM or a pick is made.
east coast bias
If Groves falls to SF like that, then he's the steal of the first round.
It was hard for me to pass on him at #23 for Pittsburgh, especially since I read an interview with him where he said he's been a Steelers fan all his life and wants to wear the black & gold more than anything. Usually, prospects give you the same.. "whoever drafts me, I'll be happy to be there..." crap, but this kid out and said he was praying for the Steelers to take him. When you hear that, you REALLY want to see that guy on your team - not to mention that he's a prototypical 3-4 OLB.The problem is : gaping holes on the o-line, and where the hell do you play Groves? They already moved Timmons inside and have Harrison and Woodley on the outsides. Harrison is around 30, but is a young 30, having only started one season - he should have 4-5 good years left in him easily. Woodley looks like a possible stud on the other side and is a second-year guy. Moving Groves inside would nullify all his natural gifts.. same with Woodley and Harrison. Only way to make this work is to trade Harrison or Woodley, which likely won't happen. You can't draft a guy in round 1 who's going to ride the pine for the next few years unless there's an injury.

A mock draft with Cason going to Green Bay? :excited: I haven't seen that before.
Don't like it?

I think Phillips is extremely overrated just because of how weak this saftey class is, in my book he is no better than a 2nd round pick.

32. Miami (gatorman) -- brian Brohm QB, Louiville. While I think that Miami may look to add an OT at this spot or a LB, the fact that Brohn dropped here gives parcells two second rounders to go after the job with the hope that one makes a splash, and hopefully the other one is good enough to trade away.

(trying to think of which OT I would take at this point, but I think most will be there later in the round)
