the guy doesnt impress meis he really that good.he looks like he is dragging around weights for his first ten steps i dunno, anyone else think he might be a little overhyped?
You should be impressed, he is an elite RB. He looks like he's dragging around weights for his first few steps because he doesn't always hit the hole at full speed; he is using his vision to make sure he hits the right holes, to break big gains.
:goodposting: Suprisingly, a lot of fans in the Seattle area don't like the guy either. For years they have said he is soft, that he is a product of the O-line, that he spends too much time dancing around behind the line. many were calling for not resigning him and seeing what Mo Morris could do and one former teammate (chad Eaton) called him out last year after the Washington playoff game. This after a season of breaking the TD record and gaining 1800 yards. Unless you WATCH (not just follow his stat lines) his games on a regular basis it is hard to really appreciate his running style. He does hesitate behind the line longer than some more explosive backs but it IS because he is being patient waiting for the holes to develop. His running style could be described as disciplined more than anything else - He squares his shoulders to the line, uses his great vision and waits for a hole to open up. He doesn't have jump-cut, stop on a dimes moves but he is smooth, has good footwork, and he is deceptively fast - I have NEVER seen him caught from behind in a foot race. He gets in trouble when holes do not open up and he starts trying to make something happen on his own. it's tough to compare him to anyone And regarding his pass catching - 2001 - 2003 he averaged 50 catches a year. He is a good receiver, they just don't ask him to do it anymore, for whatever reason.I would not put him in the category of LT2 and LJ as far as a pure runner who can make something out of nothing and go the distance on any given play. But he still qualifies as an elite back.
Agreed

Ya, 70 yards and a TD at this point in the game is just pitiful. Youre an imbecile man. all respect intended. shaun on a bad day is the 5th best RB in football.
what do all these RBs have in common?-they all have better ypc.and im pretty sure you could find 5 guys on this list who are better when shaun has a "bad day"dont get all pissed. im just trying to get the "swingin from shauns sack fan club" all torqued :D always has produced fantasy wise-always looked like an average back doing it.vision and patience only work when your oline is good. if you the line cant block vision and patience turn into-indecisive, not going north/south, needs to hit the hole faster, needs to stop dancing around....blah,blah,blahJ. what difference does it make? I dont care if he has the best O-line or the crappiest O-line. He puts up great numbers year after year. Come talk to me when he stops producing. Until then knock off the BS about how you dont " like the way he looks".

Wow, You found all the RBs. Good boy. What the hell is your point? You can list RBs? You think that Mo Mo can be mentioned in the same breath as Alexander without being called a "Backup to..." ? I stand behind my statement. You are an imbecile. Shaun Alexander cant possibly match their numbers when he has a broken foot half the year, and his first game was just easing into it, as Seattle cant afford to lose their franchise back. Im not trying to sound holier than thou, but the statements you make are obscenely stupid. Everyone is becoming dumber for reading your posts.

I think alot of people will have Shaun as a boderline top 5 pick next year.LTLJSjaxGorePortisWestbrookWho else are you gonna put ahead of Shaun? Personally i would love to pick him at #5 next year.

He is one free agency period and one draft away from not being available at #5.Not sure if any others actually can improve so dramatically with just a little added oline help. biilymays should just be ignored... thats not so much a slam on billy... but some advice for everyone else.

Oh no......thats a well deserved slam on billy....and add the jacket to the list of slammed

This is pretty disconcerting:

Shaun Alexander-RB- Seahawks Dec. 13 - 7:17 pm et

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Shaun Alexander isn't 100 percent.

Schefter reports Alexander's big contract might be playing a role after he was "running for dollars" last season. Alexander was healthy enough to run for 201 yards in Week 12, so we'd keep him active in fantasy leagues.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...=NFL&id=555

Any chance Alexander sees this report and tries to prove him wrong?

When the "Fantasy Bust of the Year" threads start I think it is a safe bet that SA will be on the top of the list. He has been a Fantasy nightmare this season.

He's old and runs soft. Frank Gore is young and runs hard. How many guys did it take to tackle Gore on that one run? 5 or 6?

If there was any doubt about whether LT is a clearly superior running back to SA, this season is certainly magnifying it. SA is obviously very talented, but seemingly more and more of his success has been a product of the system.

:D And to think I took him #2 over LT2  I hate to inlcude injury guys when I define bust, but when its all said and done, he will have played half of the season and the half he played has bust written all over it.I'm lucky I've survived drafting him. Getting Willie Parker and Chester Taylor in later rounds really saved my ###.

I have him and have been saying the same thing for a couple weeks now.It didn't help that MoMo didn't even score once when replacing him.

He was injured for a few weeks. :goodposting:

It is hard to make a judgement like this based on a year where SA has not been 100% in any game.......let see how he comes back next year and see if he can still produce when he is 100%.......that said LT is clearly the #1 RB in football bar none and has a chance to get into the best of all time discusions if he keeps his current pace for another 3 years!

Was it just me or did SA look like he wasn't in the game mentally Thursday.

IMHO he didn't seem to run with any authority, couldn't convert a 4th and a foot.

Looked like he took himself out every other down and when NFLN panned to him on the side line he looked like this :lmao:

Did anyone else pick up on this?

Typical Alexander. He's much like Priest Holmes. In his prime, everyone talked about their skills such as "patience" and "ability to read blocks".In other words, product of the line. I'm a Chiefs fan and I could see that with Holmes and Alexander is no different.Look for mediocre production out of him until the line is back to dominating. A Seahawk guy over at KFFL coined it best, "A $62 million mistake".

Its hard for him to convert a 4th and 1 when he's not even the one running the ball.4-1-SF27 (9:49) M.Strong up the middle to SF 27 for no gain (M.Lawson, M.Oliver).

You are correct. The one thing that surprises me is how often they take SA out of the game.

So what does everyone think of Alexander's prospects against the San Diego defense? Last week I expected Shaun to get a lot of carriers in the rainstorm and shred San Fran's defense but he fizzled in the 2nd half.

This week he goes against the Chargers who pretty much shut down LJ.

He won't see my lineup.Right now I'm picking two of FWP, MBIII, and Chester TaylorSA and Tatum Bell are glued to my bench

If "holding" LJ to 4.4 per carry is shutting him down, I shudder to think what Alexander will do against them.
Holding LJ to 0 TDs and under 100 total yards IS shutting him down. And I am shuddering too when I think I might have to start Alexander this week. SA has had one game where he averaged better than 3.5 yds/carry and that is playing the likes of Detroit (2.7), Arizona (3.4, 3.5), NYGiants (2.4), SF (2.2, 3.2), and GB (5.0). I might be going on a limb here but I think SD's defense is just a little bit better.

Also, Seattle could fall behind and start passing all the time, at which point you'd just be hoping for some goal-line love.

SD's last 8 games:

Larry Johnson 19-84 0 TD

Tatum Bell 17-116 0 TD

Willis McGahee 16-26 1 TD

Justin Fargas 14-32 0 TD

Mike Bell 20-90 2 TD

Rudi Johnson 18-85 1 TD

Reuben Droughns 19-36 0 TD

Steve Jackson 18-84 1 TD

Which RBs/teams is SA/Seattle more like?

Seattle just doesn't seem to have it together right now.

Update? Hope you started him.I also hope everyone watched the game today and realizes that Alexander has been hampered by injury this year and is just getting healthy. Well he's back and looks damn good running the ball against a pretty stiff SD defense ranked 6th coming in vs the run.

He's been fine and he's off and on this year. Looked good this week, looked terrible last week.

SA came through bigtime, on the biggest week of the year.

I think this at least lessens the sting of the possible fantasy bust of the year!

That's IF you made it past last week with him. I'm thinking he had a bit of motivation playing LT - how else to exaplin 140 today vs 149 against Az and SF over previous 2 wks? Foot didn't just get better this week.
