Shaun Phillips (1 Viewer)

I know Shaun Phillips is playing ROLB, but CBS has him listed as a DL. He is currently a F/A and I'm thinking about grabbing him as a DL in the CBS league. I'm just hoping it doesn't back-fire when CBS finally realizes he's playing a LB position.

Anyone else snatch him as a DL in the CBS leagues? Could be golden.

This happened to me with Bryan Thomas. I drafted him as a DL late in both of my leagues and thought I got a steal. Then, last week he was changed to a LB on my fantasy site. :wall:

He's also listed as a DL in AOL leagues. I just noticed that today, and am picking him up, even though he has a bye next week. He should be a good bye week filler for later in the season.

You have a legit gripe with your commish on that.... Thomas is listed as a DE/LB at the Jets site, as Suggs is listed as a DE/LB at the Ravens site. Both are listed as DE's at NFL.com. Gregg Ellis on Dallas falls into this "group" as well. What site are you talking about, and what are your league rules regarding player positional listings?

This is one thing I like about MFL, they do not update during the. They do it all in the pre-season. I would take it up with your comish.

This is getting crazy. B. Thomas is now listed back as a DE. In preseason, when I drafted him, he was a DE. Then, the week before Week 1, he was changed to a LB. Today I check out the top DL players and he is listed back as a DE. Wish they would make up there minds. :loco:

I'm wondering what people think about this Shaun Phillips guy. Is he a starter or just situational guy? Will he be taken out of the lineup when Foley gets back (this year?).

I'm working out a package trade and I'd be giving up Mike Peterson and getting Shaun Phillips. Peterson only has 5 more points than Phillips in my format and I'm willing to cut ties with Peterson to gain more depth at other positions.

What are the feelings on Phillips from you IDP guru's?

Foley is out for the year. Phillips is a three down starter and almost as good getting after the QB as Merriman. In the odd leagues that consider Phillips a DL, he is... uh, very good. As an LB he comes with all the caveats of any 3-4 OLB. Sacks should be up and tackles down when all is said and done. I think he's fun to own this year. Heck, I've rostered Foley in the past and got some very solid stretches to go with the big games. Phillips seems like the same guy.

I agree with CC.Phillips is an every down backer with Foley gone. He's got huge potential this season in big play leagues. I'm a little leery of giving up Peterson in any deal, but if you're in a big play league and comfortable trading him, Phillips is a solid get.

Sounds good to me. Thanks Jene!

Would you drop Landon Johnson for Phillips? I am just not very comfortable w/ the Bengals current LB situation.

This thread has been helpful! Thanks for the info.

I was curious if there was any more (or new) thoughts on Phillips.

Yes, actually.CBS finally updated their records and now have Phillips listed as a LB. If he's on a roster in your league, have your commissioner drop him, then add him. It'll update. The owner may not be happy, because Phillips is a good point producer for a "DL." As a LB, he is still decent, but his value does drop.

What if I am the commissioner and I own him as a DL, should I cut him and add him as an LB? :bag:

IMO, it is the right thing to do... Especially as a commissioner.

Oh yeah? Even if I drafted Jevon Kearse and John Abraham as my DLs!!?? :bag: :bag:

I feel for you. You gotta do whatever you think is right for your league.

I have been beitching about this for well over a year now. The FAIR thing to do is list the player in the position he plays, and often these sites, especially a tool site like CBS has no freakin clue. I'm not a commish, but if I were, I'd list the player at the position he's playing at. I happen to have picked up Bryan Thomas on the Jets, ONLY because I was thinking he'd keep his DE listing. I did that because of league rules.... if there is a loophole, I'll use it as an owner, but I think it's unfair.

A strong commish will KNOW where a player is playing.... and should list him at that position. My best run leagues use the NFL.com depth charts as the final authority, but while that rule prevents disputes, it isn't accurate either. That makes it less than fair. Greg Ellis was just CORRECTLY changed to an Lb at NFL.com. His value plummetted, and yes, i owned him too, but I didn't complain.... the guy is an OLB now.... fact, and fair. Fair is all I'm looking for here..... of he's an LB, he's an LB, period.

:) I know. Mine isn't a Sportsline league. It's one of the Fanball freebies at AOL. I lost Abraham week one and saw Phillips listed with DLs. I took him. Then it was his bye and I dropped him. A couple weeks later with Kearse gone too, I couldn't stand it and added him again. Several in that league could have added him in the interim but didn't. I do not know if there is a way to drop/add and change his position with Fanball. If there is, I'll make the change. It's not that big a deal. Just a top 3 DL turned into top 30 LB.

Commish tools don't always give the commish power to change a player's position. I cannot find the option at Fanball or AOL. :shrug:eta: I do not have the power to change a player's position. Phillips is a DL at Fanball. Period. I guess I could stick him on IR so no one else can use him.

So.... if a player is drafted as a DE, but the site relists him as an LB, it can't be changed? Wrong. It can be, even at a lousy site like CBS. A player like A Thomas has been an LB for two years already, already.

I am the commish. I am looking at my commish tools. I have written AOL and Fanball on the issue. I do not have the power to make the change. Period. Player positions are NOT IN MY CONTROL AS COMMISH.
