Shaun Rogers traded to Cincinnati, err Cleveland ? (1 Viewer)

Tempering my excitement after the Sam Adams Experiment. But this is a nice piece for a multiple front scheme. Not bad for a team that doesn't like to make big splashes on day one of free agency. Would've been interesting if they could have swung Vilma for the conditional fourth, but I think they have a pretty good idea where they stand with Thurman, Brooks, Henderson and Pollack. Just wish they'd tell us.

Yeah, I know what you mean about Adams, but Rogers is coming off a much more productive season than Adams was coming off of - even though the conditioning and effort towards the end of the year issue is enough to temper a bit of enthusiasm. I thought about Vilma too, but injury concern and the possible 3-4 may have been deterents. Wonder what this means in terms of the 1st round this year? Man, this is just unlike the Bengals...i need to chill. lol. Do you think Peko could play a bit of DE in a 3-4?

Is Pollack coming back?

He's probably a better fit as a penetrating 3-technique, but he's a relatively thick 306 pounds.

Jene I thought Rogers goes 340?

Peko is 306. Rushmore wanted to know if he could handle a 3-4 DE role.I doubt Pollack was coming back. Sometime in early February was D-day for him and we've heard nothing since. My guess is -- with Pollack working out, saying he didn't want to play SLB only DE then saying he'd consider OLB and now delaying any announcement -- he really wants to play but no one wants to clear him.

Then again, the Bengals could just be telling him to keep quiet until they make their "moves" in free agency and the draft.

I think he was referring to Peko  Still waiting for Pollack's decision, which we initially were supposed to get this month.

Yea I heard on Sirius on the way home from work that the Rogers to Cincy deal fell through. They did not elaborate.

Local Bengal beat writers are suggesting compensation was never agreed upon and that there may have been an internal struggle over Rogers' character issues.

Imagine that...the Bengals worrying about character issues. :D As for the Browns, I would think this helps DQwell and Leon Williams or whoever else may start inside. Rogers will eat up (pun intended) a couple of offensive linemen, freeing the LBs up so they can make tackles. The problem is figuring which 8 of the 16 games Rogers will show up.

I love the move. I think with Rodgers in the middle and newly aquired Corey Williams on the end makes a nice D-line and addresses our biggest problem from last season. They can use their current linemen to rotate with Rodgers to keep him fresh.

This deal apparently was never agreed upon. Latest report is Rogers to the Browns for Bodden and a third rounder.
how does this effect Bodden's fantasy numbers ?... and who takes his fantasy friendly spot with Cleveland ?

Bodden was always more of a man corner, but he should do fine in zone. Plenty willing enough in run support. Should be a solid Tampa-2 CB IDP option. For now, it would be Daven Holly, who got a second round tender as an RFA, as the other corner.

Brandon McDonald will win the role before the opener. Holly's a solid nickel corner, but nothing more.

Update.According to Peter King's MMQB collumn when asking Phil Savage where Rodgers will play, Phil said the plan was to use Shuan as a DE in the 34 and then move him inside when they switch to a 43. That scenario provides versatility if we have, Rodgers at DE, Shuan Smith at NT, and either Robaire or Corey at the other DE so Kamerion can put move up and walla, instant 43 and it would be disguised. If Kam plays off we stay in a 34 base and the offense is left guessing. Just think if we somehow get a bookend for Wimbley? Then that set is twice as effective since the QB and O-line would have two reads to make instead of one.

Wow - Rogers and the Browns agreed to a six-year, $42 million deal on Wednesday, a restructuring that will keep him in Cleveland until 2013. With his existing contract scheduled to expire in 2010, three years and a guaranteed $20 million were added to make the deal work.

Under terms of the new contract, Rogers will make $23 million over the first three years.

Second source indicates Rodgers is going to play both 34 DE and NT. He could hold more value than typical 34 NT since he should also slide outside. Shuan seems excited about not being able to get doubled.

... Rogers feels energized by a change in scenery.

"Most definitely," he said. "I'm surrounded by tons of talent and guys that can demand doubles."

Rogers played tackle on the Lions' four-man line. He was used sparingly at right end. Browns coach Romeo Crennel uses a 3-4 defense and plans to play Rogers at tackle and right end.

"This is going be my first time in the 3-4," Rogers said. "We've run variations, but that hasn't been our base defense. I'm looking forward to the challenges and making a mark in the 3-4."

Crennel expressed no reservations about using Rogers at end.

"He's a strong, dominant player in the NFL at the line of scrimmage and can win one-one-one battles," Crennel said. "I feel he'll hold his own against double teams as well."

I think Bodden will be a nice fit in Detroit. If he can stay healthy, he could put up some nice numbers.
