Shockey injury prone? (1 Viewer)

He definitely is. In his defense, he is almost always tough enough to play through those injuries. Seems like every season he's on and off the injury report, and IIRC, ankles seem to come up a lot. Despite that, he continues to be perennial top 8 TE. He's giving you 2nd tier TE production even with a missed game a year and a handful of games played less than 100%. I think that actually gives him upside - we assume he will be banged up, and we know that he's still near elite with that hitch in his giddyup - if he can actually avoid injury for a season (fat chance, but still), he could finish top 3 again.

He appears to be a Todd Heap clone, no? Heap is always on the injury report in some form or fashion, yet continually plays and produces at a high level!!!!!

He plays like a beast and gives it 110%. When you lay yourself out like that you're bound to get banged up more often than others. Seemed like he was the only Giant trying down the stretch last season. Fighting for 3 extra yards after his helmet popped off. Even hurt he's better than most TEs. If his team could find a heart to match... I personally don't like him but his effort on the field

Except Heap is fully healthy this year for the first time in forever. Expect a career year if it stays that way.

My best recollection of Shockey was in his 1st or 2nd year. He catches this pass down the seam and is heading towards the endzone. He has a clear shot of going in untouched for the score. There is a defender close but the defender could not get Shockey before he reached the endzone. However, instead of going in untoched, he veers off course straight at the defender and runs into him falling short of a TD. :loco:

That was the infamous playoff game they lost v the 49ers, after being up like 24 points in the 2nd half. IIRC, the defender was Julian Peterson.

Good find. I couldn't remember which game. Apparently he still scored 2 plays later. I was laughing too hard at him getting tackled at the 1 to remember who eventually scored.2-6-SF28 (13:46) K.Collins pass to J.Shockey to SF 1 for 27 yards (J.Peterson, M.Rumph). Caught at SF 10.

1-1-SF1 (13:04) T.Barber left tackle to SF 2 for -1 yards (A.Carter).

2-2-SF2 (12:24) K.Collins pass to J.Shockey for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Should have read: Tries to run through defender at SF 10.

I have a problem with the term "injury prone". In this day and age I would almost chalk it up to "bad luck". I mean if the player has the same injury over and over I can see it but not if it is different injuries.

Brilliant, now that's stepping out on a limb. most players do get healthy in the off season.

Heap tore a ligament in his ankle in the second game in 2004, and had reconstructive surgery after the season. He also had surgery on his shoulder before last season which slowed him in training camp.

That doesn't seem very healthy to me, and it was 2 consecutive offseasons. You should have checked into that before making a sarcastic comment.
