Shockey trouble? (1 Viewer)

Just listening to Mike and Mad Dog and apparently Shockey had a big blow up with Reese. Coughlin apparently said that there hasn't been a change in Shockey's mental state. Mike will probably continue to talk about this as apparently it just broke but they went to commercial.

Looks like Shockey is trying to get himself a 1st class ticket out of town.

As a Boss owner, every bit of bad news I hear on Shockey makes me :headbang: :pickle: :hifive:
You might want to look into grabbing Darcy Johnson
Code:
"If he doesn't get hurt, he's probably the No. 2 tight end" behind Shockey, Lorenzen said. "That's nothing against Kevin; it's just that Kevin's young. Darcy can play."

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I would like to hear that from the HC not the backup QB though.

The Giants will have to seriously lower their terms if they hope to trade him though; otherwise they need to come to some type of reconciliation.

he may not even be the backup QB: New York Giants quarterback Anthony Wright is getting a majority of the reps as the back-up quarterback to QB Eli Manning this off-season, leading many to speculate that he is currently positioned to be the team's back-up quarterback during the 2008 season.

Shockey didn't show up for ring day, yes/no? If that is true, that's a big middle finger and an up yours to the team...seriously.
:bag: IIRC, Shockey was a no-show for the team's victory parade in New York, a visit to the White House and the championship ring ceremony.
local espn nadio reported that one of his gripes during the blow up was not being allowed on the sidelines for the superbowl. that could explain his "boycott".

I don't know what the Giants think they're holding onto here other than a distraction and a major pain in the butt. They simply need to cut their losses and move him out of there. He's nothing more than a detriment at this point. This is quickly turning into a T.O./Philly thing. The longer this thing festers, the worse it's going to get. Shockey is far from being worth all of this. He wasn't happy in that huddle to begin with.

I predict that Shockey will start and play for the Giants this year and do fine.. He does this kind of stuff constantlyh; its not like its a new revelation. if Jerry Reese thought there was a real problem, he would have unloaded him when the timing was good, during April ahead of the draft. These two parties are married and Shockey is too talented for them to let go, and to much of a player to miss any games.

The Giants' chances of success does not weigh on whether or not Shockey is around, that's ridiculous. They should have unloaded him when the gettin' was good, indeed, during the draft. The Giants were just too greedy, and now the Saints have lost interest.Married? Most marriages end in divorce. Too talented? Not hardly. Boss filled the void just fine.Hey, I'm a Cowboys fan. If the Giants want to hold onto him, I'll be more than happy to sit back and watch another house of cards fall in the NFC East. All I have to do is order extra popcorn. I can manage that.

Hey, I'm just speaking from an unbiased standpoint. If the Giants know what's good for them, they'll find a way to unload this headcase...quick!Personally speaking, I think it's coming sooner than most think at this point. I don't see him being a Giant for much longer.

As a Giant homer and fan of shockey... i feel the same way as Andy... our club has come together quite nicely over the past season especially at the end and in all fairness he wasn't there. I think he is more bitter then anything that he wanted to be one of the pieces of the puzzle for so long and put his heart into it and the fact that he wasn't one of the key heroes just hurts him... he's a very talented player and he has the heart of a lion like losing his helmet and ducking his head for contact to get extra yards. Nobody is happy about this but if this continues they have no choice but to ship him out... their fully behind Manning at this point and everybody is agreeing that it's his team now regardless of the past... Shockey was never one to fall in line and was always very animated during games and when it was okay to scrutinize manning he was the first one throwing his hands up during games and shaking his head basically expressing to everybody that it was purely Mannings fault for whatever transpired during the play.

It's no longer ok to do that within the Giants organization because Manning has now proved himself to be worth his price.. it's also no longer shockey's team, and this hurts considering he watched somebody grab the reigns and there was nothing he can do about it... I completely understand his frustration but he's going about it all wrong. He was always a semi-selfish player and I think between the way the Giants treated him during his injury and the way they acted like they can fill the void (TO syndrome) he lost it. His name was barely mentioned during the playoff run he just kind of faded away for the time being and that really struck a cord considering he has a huge ego. He basically had a reality check that the Giants can exist and that hurt.

He's a great player but coming off a superbowl victory with the team moral as high as it was... if he doesn't shape up... they will ship him out.

I have little doubt he's headed out of town. Seems pretty clear he's not happy there and he's just going to be a distraction in order to get traded. None of this is really surprising because he's a baby who is going to cry until he gets his way, but he has no leverage after the team won the SB without him. He's a very talented TE, but I doubt he'll ever live up to his potential due to his attitude - and I'm a Shockey owner.

Interesting tidbit in this saga that I didn't realize. Guess who Shockey's agent is ...... yup, Rosenhaus.

local espn nadio reported that one of his gripes during the blow up was not being allowed on the sidelines for the superbowl. that could explain his "boycott".
First I've heard of this.
From the Bergen Record:" Reports later surfaced he and Reese had an animated argument, apparently over some points the tight end listed Saturday as reasons for his unrest.

One was the Giants’ insistence he watch Super Bowl XLII from co-owner Steve Tisch’s luxury box instead of from the sidelines. More important, however, was Shockey’s claim the Giants spread the rumors of his off-season unrest in hopes of drumming up trade interest."

I heard that Shockey is tighter with one side of the ownership (Ticsh/Mara) while Reese is tighter to the other. Not sure which side is tighter with whom and have no real way of knowing if any of that stuff is true because I heard it from a 3rd or 4th source.

His stats don't relate to Great. In 6 years he has averaged around 700 yards per season and around 4.5 TDs. You must be talking about the intangibles. I would rate him as Good.

def talking about the intangibles... he is a great player... talent wise he can do everything you need from his position... he's a great blocker... great catching threat... he's just been asked to block alot more then he wants to... he thinks he's a WR.. not a TE... i think he's better then good... he's top 5 at his position when healthy... maybe top 3... his attitude just hurts him.

Shockey probably thinks the Giants have 0 chance of repeating and would rather move on. He's a tool but I give the Giants 30-40% of the blame. They have done nothing to make anything better and have probably made it worse. Shockey in a WCO would be a TD machine.

I haven't seen him play allot but I do remember too many dropped passes and blown assignments when I have.

Exactly. Huge Giants fan here... but take away Shockey's negative effect in the locker room and shockey is far from great. he drops WAY too many passes. he causes ruckus when he doesnt get the ball, showing up teamates. He has some speed and can make good catches. When he is healthy, he is very good.BUT he is never healthy. So he is ok to good for the most part. He isnt that valuable although again, when healthy, he blocks very well and is a weapon (albeit inconsistent).
