Shooting at KC Jewish Community Center, 3 dead (1 Viewer)

They weren't railing about it to any extent, but plots to kill them is part of their daily routine. They're used to it. Notice their founder had a much higher point value than even judges. I don't know if the trial they mention was the trial that took down Ricio and his group. They were all over the place in the late eighties and then just kinda disappeared.

Given our sweeping definition of terrorism, I think the communication mentioned would be more than what is needed to classify his group as a terrorist organization.

But this is why allowing the NRA to write laws is not a good idea. They will go to bat for the upstanding, non-disturbed citizens right to own C4 because of their wacky idealism around guns being a necessary check on the government. It's no less paranoid than theories about a massive race-war coming.

And I'm not placing the blame on the prosecutor, but I bet he is watching the news right now and thinking "what the hell did I do?" I know I would be.

FWIW, this monster was already felon and the existing gun laws were supposed to stop him from getting a gun.

No they are not. Right now a felon can purchase a gun any time he chooses in a private sale because the seller is not required to perform a background check; therefore the seller never knows whether or not he is selling to a felon. All attempts to close down this loophole has failed thanks to the NRA.

It really drives me crazy when people argue there is nothing we can do to stop felons from getting guns. Yes there is! We can close the damn private sales loophole! It may not stop it, but it would sure as hell make it a lot more difficult.

I'm not arguing, I just haven't followed the debate very closely. There are too many fanatics on both sides.

I'm all for closing that loophole.

While it's galling that a guy like this was able to gain possession of fire arms, I don't know that having or not having a gun would have made a difference here. It's probably more convenient than a homemade pipe bomb or something, but he probably was going to give some mass murder a try one way or another.

The hate is the root cause of this violence, and I'm not sure there's a quick fix for eradicating hate. It takes education, which takes time and willingness to be open to learning, and compassion. Hate crimes have been with us since the first tribes organized, maybe longer. Overall we're probably in a better place as a species with that than we've ever been, but there's a way to go yet.

This guy is 72 and knows exactly what is going to happen. Lots of trials and nothing to him but jail. He's at the end of his life any way so there are zero consequences to his actions.

I'm just guessing this coward wouldn't have done this if the results would have been his capture and torture.

I'm of the opinion that we need to create a island to hold those that don't fit into our society. Each convict would be dropped in with minimal food and materials to build his own living structure. What happens from their, is up to them.

Just need to make sure there is no way they could ever escape via a boat. Maybe air patrols, or satellite monitoring for escapees.

A really good friend of mine is from Overland Park, KS. T&P. Tragic.
My brother and family are in Olathe, right next door, and commute through the Overland Park area. Maybe just as worrisome is the random shooting that's been going on--somebody taking potshots at cars through that commute, though he hasn't hit anyone yet.

Sure, it's a great idea until the president's plane goes down and he ejects himself in an escape capsule that crashes on the island.

  :thanks:

So he belongs to the KKK. Why is the KKK even allowed to exist? They've been known to murder people. Shouldn't they be classified as a terrorist organization?
The KKK does not in itself direct violent activity against anyone. It is not a terrorist group. It has as much right to exist as the Communist Party, the Nation of Islam, and other "hate" groups.
Their entire existence has been about physically hurting/killing and intimidating other people with a goal of complete eradication. I think that goes a little beyond "free speech".
Bob- I'm on your side here. But if I understand their "recent" polemic, it's about white purity and claims to not care about the other races... ie: let the blacks, jews, etc do whatever is they do, but don't piss in our gene pool. Granted, I probably got that from a Springer epsiode or somesuch.

I heard something about that mentioned on the news during the coverage of this. I hope it was the guy.

Also, I just found out my friend's mother and niece were shopping down (she said across) the street at the time of the shooting.

So lucky.
