Last night someone posted a screenshot of a conversation where a student heard of someone threatening to shoot up a local school here.  The district is taking it seriously sending the state police to the school to monitor every entrance, hallway, etc today.  There's an obvious uproar from parents today all over Facebook.  Folks are arguing over keeping their kids at home today.

For those with kids, what do you do?  Send'em or keep'em?

I keep them home.  I don't believe it will happen.  These things do not go down in the face of a warning.  That said I could never live with myself if something did happen.

My conduct with my kids is different than my own conduct.  I have gone into work in the face of threats. I have done so in the face of a threat directed specifically at me.  With my kids, no way.

I would keep them home.  I think our kids school do a good job preparing our kids for an active shooter situation.  They've had a few drills and a few lockdowns and the kids are taught to obstruct the door and hide with a sharp object to protect themselves.

keep them home, no question. When 9/11 happened with the chaos going on I had the wife pull the kids from school then. No sense risking it.

+1 Keep em home

My neighbor was at the Pentagon on 9/11. We got all the kids home from school. Also, my son was at VA Tech when the SHTF. He kept us well informed & we knew about it well before the media reported it. He didn't want to come home because he felt it sent the message that a general retreat was in effect. He eventually gave in as the campus became a ghost town.
