Shorter Running Back, seem harder to tackle than you think (1 Viewer)

I'm watching both games and was impressed with both running backs... The commentators were saying

that the low-center of gravity for MJD made it very difficult to bring him down, especially because

he is so strong and moves the pile so well...

every year we hear arguments about a guy not having the prototypcial RB size..but in the case of

MJD, he might be compact enough to make it work

on another note.. this game might have featured the two shortest running backs on opposing teams

Maurice Drew isn't tough to tacke just because he's short.

He has SICK moves and speed, and as you mentioned abnormal lower body strength for a man of his size.

Basic physics. The majority of Mojo's weight is very low. He will not topple easily. Much like Barry Sanders. Huge thighs, low center of gravity, and quick cutting ability. Coming behind that big line, its hard to even see the guy.

And big fat ones like Jamal Lewis are easy to tackle, especially when they just run into the back of the line and fall down.

This is very true

When you have a short back who has HUGE legs, that center of gravity and their strength/balance make for a very tough tackle - between the fact that they are 8-10 Inches shorter than many tacklers and also shorter backs often have quicker moves/change of direction/spin ability than taller backs do.

The result is it can be very tough to tackle a nimble 205lb bowling ball. In addition, it is VERY difficult to put a really good hit on these guys.

I am 5"6' and played ball in HS and College (D3 only, though could have played D2, fwiw, which aint much). Even at those levels, it was very rare that someone really got a good lick on me because of my height - or lack thereof.

we'll have to bump this thread next year when there is a running back who doesn't show up as shorter than 5'10" and people scream that he can only be a scat-back..

there are plenty of shorter RB's with great success, it seems to have more to do with the fact that they can pack weight onto that small frame..
