Being in Mn, I feel like I have at least a working knowledge of this. I've seen it time and time again. All I can say is, those that do it are almost always north of 250 lbs.

You mentioned a jacket. Can we discuss the no coat/jacket thing here? I rarely use one because it’s usually a short walk from my car to the building I’m going in and my core can stay warm enough for that 30 seconds I’m outside. It’s also a bother to take on and off. If I keep it on inside, it’s too warm. Why others deal with coats all the time is beyond me.

Of course, if I’m going to be outside for a long while, that’s a different story.

Most because they are fat and pants are uncomfortable.

When I've done it (6-2, 185lbs), it's when I'm in the middle of a house project and realize I need something quick from Home Depot to complete it.

i've seen more shorts this last 2 weeks than i had in the months September - November

these guys aren't wearing shorts in fall. they wait until it gets to be "exposure to skin can lead to frostbite in under 1 minute" to break out their cargoes.

eh?

Wastes a good 4 or 5 seconds.

But seriously, walking around a store in a coat is hot. If you go to a restaurant you have to keep it on the chair or, worse, pay a tip for someone to store it for you. I’d rather be slightly cold for 30 seconds in the parking lot.

I rarely get cold, but I stopped wearing shorts in the winter because I am sick of hearing people say "Aren't you cold?"

I don't know why it bothers people so much that they have to comment about it constantly.  And in the summer, people can wear jackets when it is 90 degrees and no one says anything...,

the horror

I was a "no coat" guy....then my car broke down in Jan. and I had to wait awhile for the tow truck.  Now, even though I don't wear it while driving....I alway bring one with me.

i wear shorts because I'm lazy.  Sitting in my house it's 70 degrees.  In my car it's 55 in the garage, and 70 once it heats up.  I go outside for a few minutes.  Why would I need long pants?

out to dinner at a pretty nice place on Thursday night

no less than 2 shorts guys spotted. their polo's were clean & new at least    went great with their white Reebok Dad v2's. parking was only about 6 blocks away so that 10 minute walk in -30 was a piece of cake

Fat people usually do this because they are often overly hot
Nailed it.

300lb+ dude sat next to me at Star Wars last weekend. Was rocking some pretty sweet Champion sweatshorts that I'm sure he bought in the late 80's.

300lb+ dude sitting next to me at Lambeau on the 23rd wearing flip flops and socks with sweats was feeling no pain  pants ftmfw

"Jeans were kind of holding me back, so I started wearing shorts," said Evan, who occasionally feels numbness in his knees from the habit. "It's nice and warm in the school, so there's no reason to wear jeans."

My 11 year old son does this and he’s maybe 85 lbs soaking wet.  He just doesn’t like wearing pants.  Although his usual attire is shorts and a sweat shirt and not (just) a t-shirt.

perfectly acceptable for kids to do.  they think they're being badasses.

Must be a Wisconsin thang..was just in Oshkosh and ran up to Festival foods.  It was -1 on my car temp.  I have UA fleece top and pants on with a ski jacket and wool hat.  The store was jammed and I saw 3 guys with shorts on while I was freezing my ### off.  2 of them were pretty fat but one guy was just a little chubby.

was at the store earlier. on my walk from the doors, to my car, maybe a minute.. i watched a portly Asian fella with no jacket on + shorts slowly loading groceries in his mini-van like it were 80 with a light breeze.

his face was redder than a stop light

I'm a shorts guy, probably 300+ days a year. My daughter makes fun of me when I have to wear "work clothes" which pretty much means pants.

Of course I live in California and work from home, so there's that. If I lived in one of those places where humans weren't meant to live, like Wisconsin or Minnesota, I'd probably buy more pants.

Festival Foods is a great store....

serious question.. how heavy are you? are you diabetic?
205 pounds.  I'm not talking about 0 degrees and windy, with no jacket, like your example.  But anything above 20 I am more comfortable with either shorts and jacket or jeans and no jacket.
