One more episode to go on my second time through. I just noticed for the first time in episode 5.9 that Cheese's last name is Wagstaff. When I heard that, I immediately realized he must be related to Randy. So I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently he's Randy's father. Never knew that.

Learned some other cool stuff on Wikipedia.
For me the second time i watched was so much better.  Caught a ton of stuff i missed the first time around.

When is it said/indicated that he is Randy's father?

Update:

I never finished season 3.

I think I gave up somewhere mid-season. Never felt like going back to finish it.

Not everyone is going to like everything, no reason to finish it if you don't enjoy it. It reminds me a lot of Mad Men in that those that like it just love it and others just find it boring.

Showed my girlfriend Die Hard with a Vengeance yesterday and realized that Rawls plays the construction foreman who directs McClane on where the dump trucks went.

I just finished season 3 of the Wire.  For all the hype I have to say I was disappointed.   It is a good show but like Joe T is saying above it is just really slow.  I had no interest to binge watch.  I give the series maybe a 6, not even close to best series on tv.  I have no desire to fire up season 4 right now.
There's your problem.  It's not a binge watch type show and it wasn't designed to be.

No show is good if you cant binge watch it. Shows not created to be binged watch? First I ever heard that as an excuse for a show being slow.

I have binged watched GoT, Sopranos, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Ballers and many more.
The way my schedule is, there is no other way. I have not watched The Wire, but when someone says it isnt binge watchable, thats an immediate no chance.

not even sure where to begin with this one

That's really not true. Soap operas thrived for years giving people that little half hour every day. The format is nowhere near as effective if you watch episode after episode.

The Wire takes a little patience. It's not meant to make you want to watch the next episode right away. In fact, I always felt the Wire's true uniqueness was you didn't realize how great it was until a season (or the series) has ended.

Yes a show so good you cant watch another immediately after it is something that so many should seek to watch.
"Man, that episode of ________ was so good, but I cant watch another one because it would hurt my interest. This show is so good you cant watch multiple in a row, it wouldnt be good then." Again, if a show is not worthy to watch multiple episodes in a row, then its not really a good show.

EDIT: People would have binged watch soap operas if they could. (Painful to equate Soap Operas to shows like Sopranos) But i remember my mom when I was younger talking about the weekend cliffhangers on the phone to her friends. Binge watching would have certainly been done.

Pik, thats good to hear, some said above it wasnt binge worthy. I say a show that isnt binge worthy isnt a good show, some think a show is so good, you cant watch more than one or two at a time. I have been close to giving this show ago, but if it isnt binge worthy, it isnt a good show. Period.

I like chocolate so much, but I can only eat one piece of a Kit Kat. Its too good to eat another.

I actually think it's easily a binge watch show.

Also Ballers lol.

the idea is that the show is so mentally stimulating and exhausting that you have to stop and think about what you watched before you continue.  that may sound ridiculous, but there's truth to it.  the same idea exists with great novels.

the first time through, you absolutely should not binge watch.  binge watching is the lowest form of entertainment.  fun, sure.  but there is more to The Wire than that, and that's part of the draw for lots of people.  binge watching lessens your ability to grasp concepts and remember events as they happen, because you're not stopping to think about what you watched and commit it to memory, you're immediately moving on to more mindless entertainment.  but this isn't mindless, you pretty much can't watch The Wire successfully while being mindless.  if you binge watch a show, I guarantee you miss/forget large, important events and plot themes.  forgetting things while watching The Wire simply doesn't work.

I realize this is not why some people watch TV - they just want to shut their brain down and be entertained for an hour.  that's fine, this isn't the show for you.  I will say, I binge watched The Wire my second time through.  it worked because I knew what was going to happen so I couldn't miss things like I would if it was my first time watching.

other random points: the chocolate analogy was really bad and I'm not even sure what you were trying to say with the soap opera thing.

All your opinions. Kudos to you and appreciate some of your input on the show. I still believe any show that isnt binge worthy isnt a good show. Also, the chocolate analogy was perfect, you just didnt like it because it was so perfect and made your point useless.

I'm going to go start a show that so good that I cant watch more than one, because I have to take a week to think about what I just saw. I also will open a can of Pringles and eat only one. Who cares that they say "once you pop, you cant stop." They are so good, I can stop after just one to think about how good it tastes.

Looks like I read his input. Also, you not understanding the analogy is perfect.

Leave the Cheers bar at once, Cliff. Which, was a binge worthy show.

Why are you comparing a 30 minute sitcom to the Wire?  That's like comparing your kid's artwork to a Van Gogh.  They're both awesome, but they're a completely different standard.

I'm not. How did I compare? I just made mentioned Cheers was a good show worthy to binge watch, since he had a picture of Cliff from the show. I didnt compare it to any other show.
I would think The Wire and Cheers do not compare in anyway.

Always fun to read the posts of that one guy who just doesn't get it........but is completely certain that everyone else is wrong.

check this out: if I eat one reese's cup I want to eat another immediately after.  but if I have sex I don't want to have sex again for a little bit.  i might even take a nap.

reese's cups:  better than sex

I've never binge watched a show. I don't get the appeal of blasting through a series. I like to take my time with it and enjoy it.

lol look at this noob.  haven't you ever eaten a cylindrical tube of potato chips?  if you had you'd understand.

You dont have to binge watch a show, never even insinuated. But a show should be able to be binged watched if it is any good.

Few questions.
Do people get killed off unexpectedly or is it predictable?
Is the story line predictable and do the good guys always win?

So far the only show that I can't binge watch is Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I really enjoy the show, but god it gives me a headache after 2 or 3 showings. Their voices just hit a nerve with me
