Should Shanahan be Fired? (1 Viewer)

I am a self-proclaimed Broncomaniac, and I don't think I've ever been as embarrased to be a Broncos fan as I was on Sunday when the Lions just came in and absolutely manhandled Denver. It seriously looked like the Patriots against the Dolphins. I keep hearing from Bronco fans that the team is very talented and Shanahan's a great coach, but right now I don't see it. When I look at the Broncos drafts of the past few years, I see them trading up to get Maurice Clarett, trading draft picks for the entire Cleveland Browns D-line, and then getting rid of them after two seasons. I see undrafted free agent rookies getting starts at running back, and I see Denver trading a bunch of draft picks to get Marcus Thomas in the 4th round, who may have lasted until the 7th, and who's not making an impact. Basically, I see a team that has a terrible defense, an offense with a bad offensive line, and terrible special teams due to a lack of depth due to overpriced free agent signings to compensate for bad draft after bad draft.

Are the Broncos really that talented, aside from having some offensive skill position players (one of whom is probably going to be suspended for a year), or does the media just assume that Denver is talented based on their performance a couple of years ago? Do the Broncos need to go in a different direction with their coaching staff?

Notice any injuries to the Broncos lately?

I'm not sure how much power he has with regard to personnel but he definitely deserves some of the blame for the the broncos inability to stop the run and the failed DJ Williams move to MLB transition. That was my only question mark for that team heading into the season and it has really bit them hard this season.

On offense you can blame injuries for just about everything.

I can't understand why the Broncos are not better against the run. They have two of supposedly the best cover corners in the league who should be able to cover most WRs 1 on 1, 8 men in the box should then be able to be at least okay against the run.

Oh well. :lmao: Plummer>Cutler.

That was my thinking as well. With Champ/Blye on the outside I really thought they'd just play their S's closer to the line to make up for their deficiencies against the run Atwater-style.

Reasons why the Broncos suck this season

1- Two devastating off-season deaths

2- The loss of Nalen and Hamilton for the season on the O-line.

3- The loss of Al Wilson.

4- Injuries to Walker, Lynch, Bailey.

5- Inablity to stop the run.

Shanny's only responsible for #5.

He is a great coach and the Broncos would be much worse off without him.

Maybe right now, but it took Plummer five seasons before he had a good year. I agree with you Plummer wasn't the root of all problems in DEN though.

I'd put them in this order..5243and 1 is just silly. You don't think Shanny had any input on Al Wilson being released?

If Shanahan did get fired by the Broncos, he would have job offers immediately from more than a few other NFL teams. I'm not a fan, but he's a good coach.

I understand the frustration of a bad season, but given all the different circumstances that's been going on in Denver the last couple of years, who do you think is out there that would still have won?

Before you wish for him to get fired, who is it that you want brought in? Is he that bad to where you just want anyone in or is there somebody that's worth targeting.

Because going out and just bringing a guy in for the sake of bringing in a guy could set a team back years.

You could probably make the same argument for Plummer in Arizona as you can make for Cutler now. Plummer wasn't the problem in Arizona; Cutler isn't the problem here.

1 might be silly to you but you dont think its a factor? Williams was a talented corner. He also died in the arms of Javon. I find it hard to believe these things have no affect on a team.and yes, Shanahan had input on why Wilson was released. Wilson had to be released. His neck problem hasnt gone away. Its why he is not playing football this year. Wilson was a key to stopping the run for the Broncos. They havent replaced him.

Let's play a game called "Where have the Broncos had injury problems since the end of last season?".....

QB- Cutler-leg

RB-Henry-ribs/(weed..not injury but still has lingering effect on team...hhmmm)

WR- Walker- knee, R. Smith-hip

TE- Scheffler-foot

C- Nalen- bicep

OL- Hamilton- ?

S- Lynch- neck?

DE- Ekuban-achilles, Moss- shin

LB- Wilson- neck/spine

CB- D. Williams-murdered, Bailey-quad

I'm probably missing some but this is getting ridiculous. I don't know why their run defense is so bad. And I did not think that Bly would be giving up so many big plays. This will probably be a season to forget for Broncos fans. Just a warm up for next year.

So as I've been saying, this is year is just a foregone conclusion anyhow as it looks like the Pats will run the table all the way to the Super Bowl.

Just looking forward to the draft...

I'll say the same thing I always say whenever anyone asks whether Shanahan should be fired. Have you lost your mind???? Unless you get Dungy or Belichick, you're looking at a downgrade at coach- and unless Dungy/Belichick bring Polian/Pioli with them, there's not much more they can do to help.Remember, Cowher had back-to-back losing seasons with Pittsburgh, and people were calling for his head. He was hosting the AFC championship game two years later. He then had a 6-10 season, and people were calling for his head. He went 15-1 the next year, and won the superbowl the year after.

I'm not sure how much power he has with regard to personnel but he definitely deserves some of the blame for the the broncos inability to stop the run and the failed DJ Williams move to MLB transition. It's a little early to call D.J. Williams' transition failed, especially when Denver's DTs simply aren't doing their job. The MLB in this scheme is supposed to be free to flow to the ball. Williams has a blocker on him on pretty much every play. That has more to do with his struggles than any transition.

Nope. There's a reason why Al Wilson is still on the street- because he's too injured to play football. Blaming Shanahan for Wilson's release would be like blaming Joe Gibbs for releasing Theisman, or blaming Mariucci for letting Steve Young go.

Being a Denver fan, I understand how we expect to at least have a winning season every year. And believe me I have done my share of Shanny bashing, and even more Dre "I just got blown" Bly & Chump bashing (why do they suck so badly now?). But when you look at Shanny's record compared to the other coaches in the league, his is still pretty darn good. I have finally came to terms with us being in a rebuilding stage, sure I want to win games, but I would rather build for the future.

Cut the guy some lack. I mean, can't you think of a fews teams that would love to have Shanny right now instead of the guy they are stuck with:

Panthers- I think a could even "design" a play to get Steve Smith the ball, even if my QB sucks. (15 yard-stop and go!)

Seahawks- I think everyone has realize expect for the coaching staff, that it's time for a new RB.

Vikings- Why have they just realize to start give Peterson the ball every down?

Bengals- They lost control of this team along time ago, and it is finally starting to catch up with them.

Dolphins- Trent Green, what a steal! And then let's trade Chris Chambers! That will makes us better! Heck we still have Booker!

Start a thread for some of these bone heads!

Anyone who thinks we should fire Shanahan is foolish. What are our options if we fire him?? Bring in an unproven, hyped college coach, last two being Saban and Spurrier? Or bring in a coach that has already cycled through the system and failed? Shanahan is already one of the best coaches in NFL history. He has won the Super Bowl 2 of 12 years he has been in the league, and been in the playoffs 7 times. Cut the guy some slack, he's had two bad years in his career. Look at Bill Cowher and Jeff Fischer, those guys are proof you should stick with what you have. If we were to fire him, he would be hired before we found a replacement. Plenty of teams would love to have him. The Broncos are riddled with injuries. I think the loss of Al Wilson has been a HUGE and underestimated loss of not only talent but leadership. Denver fans love to get on our coaches as soon as they have a little trouble, but there is nobody better to have out there, especially with Kubiak taken.
