Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (2 Viewers)

Oh, irt White Rabbit, it's not the lyrics - that most would guess, that pull me in.

When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go...

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head

It makes sense to me...

I think I’ve asked this before but is Mr. Krista a fan of Material Issue?
I don't know, but my guess is no.  Based on your write-up and my general fondness for the one song of theirs I know, I'm going to check them out, though.

413. Loudon Wainwright III - Bill of Goods

I had this on a mixed tape I made from CDs I borrowed from the library.
Someone posted that you could find Richard & Linda Thompson's kids and hit a third song for them, and I immediately thought it would be perfect to have one from Loudon, one from Rufus Wainwright, and one from Kate McGarrigle.  Didn't think you'd actually have any of the on your list, though.  Bravo!

I love Loudon Wainwright.  Had my first official date with a friend of mine to see one of his shows, and I was hooked (moreso on Loudon than on my now-friend, as it turned out).  He reminds me of a more cynical, less earnest Harry Chapin in his ability to tell a story, especially hitting on the emotions associated with family and everyday life.  Clever and sometimes heartfelt but never sappy.  It's impossible to choose a favorite, but I wore out both the Grown Man and History records.  Outside of those records, I'll choose Motel Blues.

395. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks

I remember being at an open house for my son's K-1 school, they had a big party type thing for families to meet each other and the staff, etc.  They had a DJ and a lot of the kids were dancing.  And the guy puts this song on.  What the absolute ####?
1 - I love this song - but .....

.... a kid's party?!?!?!?!?!

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, he won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette, hanging out his mouth he's a cowboy kid
Yeah found a six shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden oh in a box of fun things, I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
And say your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
I was gonna bold the problem lyrics....but...why bother?

390. Don McLean- American Pie

Our high school had a student-ran radio station.  At the time I was there, 88-91, most of the collection we had to choose from was still vinyl. It was awesome.

When I DJ'ed, it was usually with a buddy or two.  But occasionally I was by myself.  I didn't know a lot of really long songs at the time.  But I knew this one.  And if I had to go to bathroom, this is what my audience was getting.

I love the story - the song - meh - I think I've just heard it too much.

I do think it is great though, but I can only listen periodically now.

Now - about this DJ'n - did you get to shtick it up at all?

How are there only three of them (alluding to your Black Keys comment)? Good pick here. My tastes lean towards Take A Pebble or Pictures at an Exhibition but no quibbles. Note that I have a lot to say about King Crimson but not on my phone. It’ll take forever and be riddled with errors. For starters: Starless, Larks Tongue, Discipline, Red, Thrak.
