Very historically under-rated band. I go with: Telephone Linegreat song, so many great songs from the mid-70s from these guys.
tough to get away from 10538 Overture for me.
As it turns out, *the* Nigel Tufnel @Nigel Tufnel @bigbottomplayed with the actual band outside the TV show, forming the basis for Spinal Tap a few years later. You're not familiar with the work of Lenny and the Squigtones?: Starcrossed

I learned about some song about a cat from the 70sI’m back from ten days away. What did I miss?
A quick google of "songs about cats" gave me only three top choices from the 70s: (1) "Honky Cat" by Elton John, which no person would ever choose as their Elton John song; (2) "Cool for Cats" by Squeeze, but shuke already took "Tempted" by them earlier, and (3) my therefore-default answer, "Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart.I learned about some song about a cat from the 70s

I love these two. For some reason I've never loved S&G as much as most people seem to, but that song certainly does it for me. The Edwyn Collins one is a great guilty pleasure.BONUS MATERIAL ALERT
Before we dive into the top 200, I need to post these three egregious misses on my part.
1001. Simon and Garfunkel - The Boxer
Not sure what happened here. I could have sworn it was in my list at some point, but maybe I accidentally deleted it. Should be somewhere in the middle of the top 100.
1005. Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You
This was posted in one of the one hit wonder threads recently. I don't think I've ever heard it. Would have put it somewhere in the 900's.
