Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (2 Viewers)

47. Leonard Cohen - Dance Me to the End of Love

Such a beautiful song.  I know Hallelujah belongs in the top 50.  But my wife and I chose this for our first dance at our wedding.

I  read years later that Leonard was inspired to write this by the holocaust.   :(
Just a great singer/songwriter. One of the only ones besides Cash and Dylan that ever did it for me.

My guess for Shuke's top 5 (a little chalky):

5. Radiohead - Paranoid Android

4. The Rolling Stones - Monkey Man

3. Phish - Chalk Dust Torture

2. Pick Floyd - Comfortably Numb

1. The Grateful Dead - Eyes of the World

I enjoy these filthy, sweaty rednecks way more than I should.   "Hurry Sundown" would be my go to for 'em, but can't fault you for Tides either.

56. New Radicals - You Get What You Give

"What the hell, shuke?!!??"

That's right.  Number 56.  Ever.
Okay.....so that makes two people on Earth who enjoy this song, apparently:  My bride, and you.

I can forgive many, many things, but this may not be one of them.  I'm going to just assume as a kid you once got a woodrow watching Danielle Brisbouieousauxois (sp?) on Archie Bunker's Place and the nostalgia factor carried this one to 56.

If I may be so bold.....what about this tune parks it near your top 50?  I have never understood its popularity.  At.  All.  Looking for enlightenment.

Interesting.  Would be interested in seeing some top 10 guesses.
I SAID "#4 WEATHER GIRLS, THE: IT'S RAININ' MEN. WHAT DO I WIN?", LIKE, FOUR DAYS AGO!  GOD!!

I'm starting to think you have me on ignore.

Aside from maybe the Beatles, I’d think Elton John would be just about the toughest to choose one song from. I’d go Funeral for a Friend, but really, there are so many great songs in his catalog.
We have unbelievably similar tastes in so much (I also hate "Cars," for instance, and only tolerate Fleetwood Mac for purposes of "Landslide"), but then diverge widely on others.  Anyway, I thought of this because of the thread in general but in particular because Funeral for a Friend is my top choice, too.

Are you both including “Love Lies Bleeding”, because while I do love the “Funeral” intro as well, as a stand-alone I can’t see anyone calling it John’s best song.

R.E.M. does a very good cover of it, First We Take Manhattan. - and the lyrics are what always captured me, Brilliant.

"You loved me as a loser, and now you're worried that I just might win. You know the way to stop me but you don't have the discipline."

you quoted my EXACT favorite passage ... it's one of those lyrics i will go to my deathbed wishing that i had written.

very potent when applied as per the duality of Hesse's "Steppenwolf" when facing one's own demons - and that's where i have always found it to be most intrinsically applicable.

I woildn't say I dislike him but I can relate. He has a few songs I dig and CSNY was fantastic, but I have never felt drawn enough to explore his music deeply.
I’d say that’s where I stand on the issue. Not bad, just not terribly interested in him.

But we’ve never met...how does he know we wouldn’t be friends so famous?

This note’s for him.
He's always seemed like a surly guy, so you're probably in good company. If I based my musical tastes on likable personalities (see Waters, Roger), there wouldn't be much to listen to.

It’s true. I’d be disappointed at times if some of the musical savants I love were cuddly (see Brock, Isaac).

I really don’t know.  I probably can’t put into words why I like most songs I do.

I like what I like.

Your wife sounds hot.
