Does anybody know about Rice's progress and when he MAY return? He is able to come off the PUP in week 6 but when is he projected to return? He would be a great player to put at the end of the bench if you have space as long as he is back by week 10 or thereabouts. Last I heard he was on crutches but was hoping a homer would be able to provide a better update.

Not a homer, but I consider a Rice return before he's had 8 weeks of recovery to be virtually impossible. And if he were to rush it, he'd be hampered and probably succumb to injury once again.

He's still on crutches, but he says that everything went great and the area doesn't even feel painful. Check back in week six for anything concrete.

Hey, Griff321, is there any local word or buzz about whether he will actually come off of the PUP list and play. I imagine there must be some additional information once Minn passed on Jackson. Does this mean they are optimistic?

He's had 4 and a half already and the latest article I read said he was shooting for Oct 31st which would put it just short of 10 weeks (week 8). That might be aggressive, but I would think he'd return barring any setbacks by week 10.

Here's the latest article I've seen which is also linked on rotoworld.

In my league with deep rosters I'm thinking of picking him up and stashing him for the stretch run and the playoffs. Still would like to wait and see how things progress. Like mentioned above, it says he is aiming for Halloween but the following week may be more realistic.

Refresh my memory -- when was the last time a WR, RB, or TE came off of the PUP list to be valuable in FF over the stretch run?

Not saying it never has happened ... just can't personally recall it happening. I do recall drafting Anquan Boldin the year he was on PUP, and waiting for him to come back after six weeks and light it up. Eh ... no.

Good question and Im curious as to other examples of when it's happened as well. In the case of Boldin in 04' he did average nearly 6 catches and 65.7 yards per game. He did only score 1 TD but that would still be 12/13 ppg in PPR leagues. In picking up Rice I wouldnt be looking for him to light it up but simply an extra option at WR/flex capable of getting some points if inserted into the lineup.Due to bye weeks I specifically need some help for week 10. Im hoping for a best case scenario where Rice is able to test the hip in week 9 and ready to play a full game week 10. Then I could play him that week and use him for depth after that.

He is on my leagues waiver wire. I am wondering how long he will stay there as week 8 edges close and closer. I may have to drop a back for him and just lock up a roster spot.

Minnesota not getting Jackson has less to do with Rice's timetable and more to do with the asking price and subsequent contract. I would not use what happened with Jackson as optimism towards Rice.

I picked him up for the minimum bid while he was off of everybody's radar. I figure the price would ratchet up the closer we got to week 6.

Scorig system is definitely something to consider ... don't play in any PPR leagues, and the league I had him in is fairly TD-heavy. His value, naturally, was much lower.

 Like the Pioneer Press article he has stated elsewhere that there was zero post-surgery soreness and really the only reason that he's using the crutches is because it's on doctor's orders.(STrib article from the 14th)

It's promising that Sid is eying a week 8 return. However, I've also read that week 10 was the earliest to expect Rice and that's why the Vikings absolutely have to be very aggressive in pursuit of a trade for VJax, but for some reason I can't locate a non-premium article to link to. The reason I say, "wait until week six to know anything concrete" is because if the Vikings hold the roster spot for him it's very promising. If they have any reservations, then they'll surely place him on IR because it's hard to hold that roster spot.

I just heard Mort on ESPN radio say that his "sources" say to expect Rice to be back week 8. I'm not sure how concrete that is, and how good his sources usually are though.
