I watched this kid for 4 years in college. He's really good! Don't know why Carolina released him, but the teams I named? Wake up, you got NOTHING at QB. It can't get any worse. Give the kid a chance, and put him in right now. If he's a bust, so what? But if he's any good...

The Ravens released him. How good can he be?
They released Derek Anderson, too. And why not, when you have three studs this year like McNair, Boller, and troy Smith? There's no one I'd trust more than Baltimore for evaluating QB talent...

Not to support the decisions the Ravens have made at QB, but Anderson was put on the practice squad and CLE picked him up from there. I don't think the Ravens thought anyone would take him. Olsen was released. Troy Smith beat him out for the #3, but it was very close.

To get put on the practice squad, you have to be released and clear waivers. When they released anderson, I'm pretty sure Cleveland claimed him on waivers before they could sign him to the practice squad. Point is, both players were released.

Supposedly, Olson outplayed Smith in training camp but the Ravens kept Smith because they had more invested in him.
Baltimore Sun:Olson outplayed Troy Smith during the preseason, but had too much working against him in that Smith was the Heisman Trophy winner in 2006 and got a signing bonus as a fifth-round pick.
