-- Rams; Rice Agree to Contract --

Fri Aug 31, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

FFMastermind.com's Dan Pasquale reports free-agent DE Simeon Rice has agreed to contract terms with the St. Louis Rams.

I thought James Hall looked decent during the pre-season, but having Rice and Little as your DE's sure would make any OC have nightmares.

This makes me happy! The Rams have definitely made the right moves for a stronger defense this year.

The Rams dline might be nice but what about their LBs and more notably their secondary??
They are lacking in the secondary and that is why I think this move was made. If they can get pressure on the QB more consistantly or quicker, then the secondary might not get exposed as much. Thus, they might not have to cover their guys as long.

Hall has been a very good DE, although he's battled with injuries. I wonder if this will be more of a rotation than Rice taking over full time.

How many sacks did Rice have last year? We aren't talking about 2002 Simeon Rice here. The guy is practically irrelevant.
He was hampered w/ injury last year and was really never himself. So, you go sport and judge him on that one season because all the other years he's been a TOP DE. He changed many games for TB in the past years single handidly. Ask any OC and they have to game plan around him. I'll give you a pass though because there is a chance that you just started watching football this past year.

Not so fast.....

Free-agent defensive end Simeon Rice came and left St. Louis without a contract Friday. Apparently, Rice's surgically-repaired shoulder checked out OK. There remains a possibility that Rice will sign with the Rams in the future, but so far the sides have not had serious discussions about a contract.

The Rams also had free-agent safety Hanik Milligan in for a visit Friday. Milligan, a fifth-year NFL veteran from the University of Houston, was cut by the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. He made the Pro Bowl as a special teams player in 2005 with San Diego. No signing appears imminent with Milligan, who's 6-3, 200.

There's been a lot of speculation that Rice won't be signed until after Week 1 to keep his contract from being guaranteed. And Carriker looks like he'll be a very good run-stuffing NT.

if he's still a stud, why did the Bucs dump him and why did it take him this long to catch on with another team?

Stop the rolleyes buddy. Sensitive about your favorite player? That's not my fault. Your excuse is for his drop in production is that he has been injured? Go figure.

:goodposting: he can still be productive, but I imagine only as a 3rd-down pass rusher. report in the local paper today that he's still unsigned though and would come back to the Bucs if "the money was all the same."

Apparently, it's either the Rams or Broncos. And he's visiting Denver in the very near future.

I'm undecided whether signing him would be a good thing or bad thing.

If the Rams are getting Simeon Rice, its bigtime for that club.....IF he's fully recovered from the injury that held him out all of last season. But that ONE season aside, how can you argue with what Rice has done througout his career? He had something like 14 sacks 2 years ago. Getting cut this season by Tampa couldnt have been a shock to anyone because Im sure his salary limited that team's flexibility. But Im not about to write the guy off for one year of injury. Prior to '06, he's missed all of TWO games of a 10 year career. He doesnt really have an injury history. And DEs have proven they can play quality ball well into their mid-late 30s. Rice is an all-timer, and if the Rams are getting him and he's healthy at any point in the season, they are going to be a dangerous team. He'd be an unbelievable rotation guy on 3rd down or passing situations.

Dude get real. Rice is a shell of his former self. How old is he now? He has been a one trick pony as he can only rush the passer but at his age, whos to say that he can even do that as effectively now? If Rice is such a stud and feared my opposing coordinators why has it taken him so long to find a team? Maybe he's nowhere near as good as you think... :X

Guys.... Rice is not going to be an IDP stud; I doubt he even on the field for 40% of defensive snaps this year. He has one propuse... To get the double teams off Little on passing downs. IDP managers have to bump up L Little this if Rice signs for the Rams.
