Simple Life Hacks: share 'em (1 Viewer)

Northerners: windshield steamed up?  Blast it with cold air, not warm.  Warm air adds more moisture, making the problem worse for a bit, not better.

You can keep the warm air on but turn on the a/c too. This will keep the temperature up but pull the moisture out of the air.

I have found that a pretty easy wsy to get stuff from across the room or from the fridge is to have a kid or two.  Now, all I need to do to get the remote from the other couch is yell for one of my kids to get it for me is yell real loud, and WA LA it shows up.

Disclaimer: having kids may require you to slice grapes.  I cant help with that.

If your wife texts you too much during the day, text back with “he’s busy” and then shut your phone off.

Sounds like an awfully expensive life hack.

sunk costs.

We have a two-year-old so are some grape-slicing fools. Told my wife about the paper plate trick and that they needed to be cut length-wise. Her only question was "Do you have to lay each one down?"

Tell her it works best if she alternates them, one standing, one on the side, one standing, one on the side....

Ask her what an aircraft carrier is.

Any time somebody asks what your favorite Christmas movie is, always answer “Die Hard”.

This way people will know to never talk to you again.

And for the record I dont use paper plates. I would think that would be hard to create the right pressure.

Not sure why I assumed paper. Guess that's our fine china these days.

It actually works pretty well although probably has more to do with sharp knives than downward plate pressure. My paper plates do have a rather pronounced lip which results in uneven "halves." I'll try regular plates next time.

The trick of putting grapes on a plate and then putting another plate on top and using a big knife to slice about 50 in half in two seconds works great.
This works with cherry tomatoes as well.

I'll share my dumb little hack..

I prefer the high end sliced bread over the Wonder white bread.

Problem is this bread is more of a rectangle than a square .... so the square piece of cheese doesn't match.

Instead of using a second piece of cheese to fill the bread, I break the cheese corner to opposite corner making two equal triangles.

Put one triangle on the bread. Break the other triangle into two equal smaller triangles to fill the rest of the bread. Now my square cheese is a rectangle.
With square cheese (I use a variety of pepper jack from Wegmans - Jalepenos and Habaneros, spicy!!) I just fold one in half normally; this allows for the square and a smaller rectangle to fill the oblong piece of bread. If need-be I will overlap the cheese a bit. For a wonderful grilled cheese, I will do three pieces; with 1 1/2 on each layer putting the smaller piece on opposite sides (left/right) of the sandwich.

i love lifehack guys you go over to there place and there are sticky hooks all over hell holes drilled in this and that and clothespins all over like they are trying to reeenact the great depression and they are always telling you about there fn life hacks well here is a life hack from the old swcer if you go over to some brohans pad and it looks like a walk in display room for 3m stick hooks just run i mean run do not walk out of there because that guy is not a brohan not even close take that to the bank bromigos

Interesting, didn't know that.

Reminds me of finally realizing the arrow on your car gas gauge points to the side that your gas tank is on for when pulling into a gas station.

When I told my GF this trick you'd think I'd just solved cancer with her amazement.
 I have a Mazda6, the needle of the gas gauge points to the right, the gas tank is on the left.

Huh, I have a 2014 Mazda 6 and the arrow is pointing to the correct side.  I've never heard of it not being correct, as that is what that arrow is specifically for.

I am sure most guys know this one but i didnt learn it until fairly late in life. The proper way to pour out a quart of oil is with the quart flipped so the spout is further from the opening you are pouring into so there is no air glug.

Did not know that. Good tip.
I was trying to figure it out before looking at the video. Am I ancient if I couldn't figure it out because I was stuck on a can in which you punched two holes before inserting the funnel and I couldn't see how turning it upside down would be a positive action.

You aren't alone.   :bag:

I still don’t get the grapes/plate thing.

:(
Put a bunch of grapes on a plate. Then put another plate on top of that. This will make a grape sandwich. Apply light pressure to the top plate holding all grapes in place. Take a huge knife. Go in between the plates with the knife cutting all the grapes in half in one easy slice.

I’ve tried this

it doesn’t go how it goes in the video for me

OK. Got it!

Doesn’t seem like it would work as planned, but it’s worth a try.

Much like Moleculo's beer fetching hack, seems there's a much cheaper and easier option.
If you have to go buy shallow plates and a knife, then yeah i would say not worth it. If you have those things already, like i do, unless you know a method where you can get paid to cut grapes, there is no cheaper alternative than free.

Never tried it with grapes, but do it all the time with cherry/grape tomatoes. If you use the plastic covers I mentioned earlier, and a bread knife, this works like a charm.
Ironically my wife always buys grape tomatoes for salads, so we never cut them, but i could see it working great with a cherry tomato.

Now i just need a good hack for peeling the fur off of a kiwi.

Kiwi skin is edible and filled with nutrients. Eat it like an apple.

Lifehacked.

I actually meant not having kids. Joke fail. :bag:

You really have to move the knife fast, too.  Kind of like when you pull the tablecloth out from under the plates and cups and leave them undisturbed.  Just make sure no one is standing around when you do it as it takes lots and lots of practice to swing that fast and get it between the plates.

Give me a reason why I need to cut ####ing grapes in half.
I use this trick a ton when cooking but not for grapes.

I cook a lot with small tomatoes (grape and cherry varieties) and many recipes call for them to be sliced in half.  This saves a ton of time.  As some one else mentioned, the knife better be very sharp for this to work.
