Sirius XM, negotiating online streaming (1 Viewer)

The trial subscription that came with our new car is going to run out soon. As part of the trial I get online streaming and only listen to Sirius in the car occasionally. Has anyone had success negotiating a renewal that includes streaming?

Always negotiate. Call twice if you need too. You will get someone to come way down from the ridiculous renewal rate they try to charge you.

It seems the 6 months for $25 is standard. The catch is they don't include the online streaming. They want $15 per month for just the streaming only subscription.

I've tried a few times to get a deal for streaming with no success. They will give great deals for radios but not on the streaming

I tried once for the streaming with no luck and 6 mos for $25 is usually the best I can get out of them as well. Tried to extend to 12 for $50 but no go so I just call them every 6 months to cancel and go another 6.

I've been getting emails and letters from Sirius like crazy. I had one phone call about 3 weeks ago, before my trial sub ran out. I told her it was no deal if I couldn't get a decent price on the streaming. Since I only spend 20 minutes in my car each day, it wasn't worth it. She would budge on the price.

Today I received a call and told the rep the same things. She offered be six months of everything for $60 including tax. I told her she was getting closer, but with my change in jobs/location I wasn't sure I would be able to stream at my desk. She said she would hold the offer in my file and check back in a few weeks.

Looks like the streaming option may start to come down in price. Finally.

About to call and cancel, can live without it, but willing to take a deal. Any good deals lately?
I just got 24.99 for 5 months (same deal I got 5 months ago). It is a bit of a pain, but I just set it up in my calendar to cancel and go through it every 5 months.

My trial subscription ran out and I had to listen to regular radio today. Never knew how much I enjoy Sirius. Just need to transfer my lifetime subscription to the new car.

They wanted $75 and I would lose the lifetime when I got rid of the car. No thanks

Thanks for the replies, just got the 5 months for $25 deal. Had to say no to two other "deals" first, but knew that they would eventually get to the 5/25 option.

Don't forget to mark 5 months on your calendar so you can call in to cancel and get another 5 for 25

I can negotiate for car service no problem. But they are tough with the online streaming.
I forgot to update my previous post, I did renew my subscription with streaming, $60 for 6 months. It's a start and maybe things will come down further over time.

I thought about cancelling as i have Spotify now and do audiobooks in the car alot. I ended up renewing the all access package for about the same i paid last year, around $136 out the door for the year. I don't really listen to the online version much. I thought about dropping down to the next package without online but it wasn't that much cheaper and i would lose nfl radio.

5 for 20 is my ongoing negotiated rate. It's what they gave me after my trial ran out, and I insist on it each time I call to cancel.

Can you explain this? How to you get a negotiated data streaming rate?

If my question wasn't clear, I was looking for was the amount of data that Sirius uses on your phone when you stream away from wifi.

My $60 for 6 months includes streaming. I'm not sure if this is something that everyone can negotiate. I had a removable Sirius unit that I used in my truck and also in my house. When they came out with streaming, I tried multiple times to get them to throw in a streaming each time I renewed. Eventually I dropped the service altogether.

Fast forward to this last November, our new car came with six months of free service, including streaming. When it ran out in May, I cancelled. They called, mailed, emailed every week for a month. I told them the same thing every time. If they can't offer a deal with streaming included, then I will never renew my subscription. Finally someone called and said they had read my account records and they could offer me the 6 months for $60 deal that included streaming. That subscription will run out in January, hopefully I can get the same deal. Otherwise I'll drop the service again.

How does paying Sirius for streaming cover the data that you use on AT&T (or whoever)?

Trying to figure out about going in on Sirius on a stereo that doesn't include it; using a phone and BT to send the sound to the stereo.

I've only used streaming once from my cell phone. (I usually use it on my computer at work). The one time I did stream with phone it was for approximately 90 minutes. Verizon is showing I used 312mb during that period.

Ouch! May have to wait on Sirius until new vehicle. Thinking about long trip, ~10 hours each way, at xmas.

I looked at the app this morning. There are three settings for streaming Normal, High, and Maximum. I had it set to Normal and still went through that much data??

Are you wanting to listen to live sports or something during your drive? Not sure if you're trying to do this on the cheap, but you could buy one of these. There are other similar models, but that's the one I have. Mine has a windshield mount, power supply that plugs into the cigarette lighter, a small disc antenna that sits on the dash, and a cable to plugs into the aux port on your car stereo. At one point I had permanent mount in my truck and another base in the house hooked up to the home stereo. I also took some portable speakers and used it at a fishing cabin in Canada. Looking at ebay, you could probably put together a kit for $50.

Here is what you do if you want to save money.

Get rid of your phone carrier and sign up with Republic wireless. I pay $25 a month for 'unlimited data', texting, and calling. This really means unlimited up to 5gs and then throttling after that. However, the premise of this company is that you mostly connect to wireless internet to make calls and what not, this means even if you are streaming a ton of music, you actually do not use that much data because most places have free and open wireless and the phone will always connect once it knows the password for a place. The catch is that you have to buy one of their phones (Moto X or Moto G; good phones, but obviously not IPhones) for about $200 - $300. You then own the phone and only pay $25. If for some reason you only need to use wireless in your house and work and do not need to connect to outside networks for data, it is only $10 a month.

Then just get spotify premium and sign up for I heart radio and a get a bunch of free podcasts you like from Google play and you have 100x more content than Sirius at a fraction of the cost because you have no Sirius bill and you are paying $50 less a month for your phone. You are welcome.

Interesting. I will look into that. Thanks for your help!!

Just a quick bump to let you know the "game" still works on getting it for $5 a month for 5 months...

First response to cancel was $99 a year plus taxes.. Said no, still not worth it.

Next was $48 for 6 months.. Said no, still not going to work

Then  he finds $5 a month for 5 months available..

Oh yeah I do this with them every year. My bill was about to go up to $18/month and that wasn't even with a package that includes streaming. Told them I wasn't going to pay that much. Then they made the mistake of sending me an offer in the mail of $30 for 6 months. Told them I wanted that. After some back and forth, I ended up getting the 6 months for $30. I'll call again in 6 months and do it all over again. I like SiriusXM, but considering I only listen to it in the car, it's not something I can justify keeping if the price goes up.
