Six teams that won't make the playoffs (1 Viewer)

Wasn't that hard.
Making the picks isn't hard, them matching up with reality is the tough part. I'd imagine KC would have been on 75% of the lists last offseason and Tampa Bay as well (they just missed out). As Joe alsways says "things change quickly in this league".

I think Carolina could be the team that screws with everyone here.Cam Newton could end up surprising a lot of folks. I still think Steve Smiff has something in the tank. Two great RBs. Olsen, Shockey and Hartsock were really smart additions.Carolina had the best record in the NFC in '08, then went 8-8 against the third hardest schedule in '09. That was with Delhomme at QB. I could see Newton, Williams, Stewart, Olsen, Shockey and Smith making for a very interesting offense.
I agree, they are one of the most improved teams, but they are playing in arguably the toughest division in football. TB is young and was tough to beat last year. They really haven't lost anyone and they should be improved with their young guys having a full year of service under their belts. New Orleans and Atlanta are legit super bowl contenders and both teams improved in the draft and free agency. New Orleans D-line is massive and have one of the best run D's on paper. Atlanta added more explosiveness to their offense in the draft. Like I said, Carolina has improved as well, I just don't see them finishing first or second in that division this year.
NO looks better than they did in '09, but I could see TB and Atl both taking step backs this year. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see both at 8-8.

Cincinnati - Cannot compete with Pitt and Balt

Cleveland - See above

Oakland - Poor contract decisions have put them in a big enough bind they will not be able to compete

Buffalo - Worst team in their division by far

Panthers - Cannot compete with Saints and Falcons

Buccaneers - See above

Pittsburgh - Missed the playoffs after last 2 Superbowl appearances. Might as well make it 3Dallas - Close, but not quite.San Diego- KC improving every day. SD not so muchIndy - The decline will be greatPhilly - The signing of Vince Young will be regrettedDetroit - They get 10 wins and just miss eta forgot 6th team
:lmao: Doesn't this belong in the "bold predictions" thread?
maybe. i could give the same 6 boring picks everyone else made

I think this is definitely not as easy as people seem to think. There's always some turnover from year to year, and this year, with all the condensed player movement and short offseason it's probably even harder to predict than usual.

What I'd look for are teams that are both (a) bad and (b) in a good division. I wouldn't take Arizona, for example, because even if they're terrible they could still end up winning their division. I don't want that risk at all. With that said, I think I'll take:

Carolina

Buffalo

Washington

Minnesota

Jacksonville

Cleveland

Buffalo

Miami

(Jets and NE can each win 10 games, and these 2 should not be near the top of the division)

Denver

(Orton will win the job, pressure to put Tebow in will start by October, cluster F ensues)

49ers

(new coach, new QB inevitably, top WR misses all of camp, implosion pending)

Redskins

(Don't like their QB, RB, WR's or much of thier D, could be in running for Luck next April)

Seattle

(yes, lots of new toys, but they barely made it last year, I see STL and ARZ getting better, leaving overachieving SEA out in the cold in 2011)

All in all, majority of playoff teams, usually have 1 thing in common. Good QB play.

All the above teams have the opposite in common.

I feel comfortable with these:

1. Carolina - rookie QB, loaded division with Atl, NO and TB

2. Buffalo - tough division so they won't win division, don't see them getting a wild card over someone like Balt, Pitt.

3. Oakland - lost Nnamdi, Zach Miller and still have garbage at QB. Another new head coach too = another year out of the playoffs

4. Cleveland - same as Buffalo

5. Denver - If they go with Orton all year then maybe - but I see them using Tebow and losing a lot of games. This was the toughest call to make.

6. Washington - tough division that I don't see them winning, QBs are Beck and Grossman: enough said.

Who's Joe?
Namath imo. One minute you're a Super Bowl hero, next minute you're wasted and hitting on Suzy Kolber on national tv.

My 6 in no particular order:

- Carolina

- San Francisco

- Tennessee

- Cincinnati

- Detroit

- Dallas

Biased against teams with new HC/OC/QBs...

Pittsburgh - Missed the playoffs after last 2 Superbowl appearances. Might as well make it 3Dallas - Close, but not quite.San Diego- KC improving every day. I see 5 teams that have a good dang chance at winning it all.Sorry Pittsburgh, j/k lol

Looking at the schedules, KC might not be a bad play here. Their schedule looks brutal.

Cincy- Rookie QB, stuck behind Pitt and Balt in division.

Cleveland- Improving but still the third best team in the division by a lot.

Carolina- Rookie QB, new coach, three much better teams in division.

Washington- Maybe the worst team in football this year. Nothing to get excited about at any of the skill positions.

Buffalo- Improving, but stuck behind the Pats and Jets.

Tennessee- New coach and QB, star RB holding out, star WR potentially suspended/highly distracted.

I'm surprised only one person said the Colts. There have been a contingent planning their demise for awhile now. (Colts season ticket holder here)

Six is too easy. There is probably an 85-90% chance that you can pick five out of six that absolutely will not make the playoffs.

My six -

Bills

Bungles

49'ers

Dolphins (assuming they don't bring in another QB)

Redskins

Panthers

Was just looking at Super Bowl odds and could not quit staring at Carolina @ 150-1. So long as Cam Newton avoids imitating Jay Cutler, I think they have a solid shot at making the playoffs.

My six teams:

Washington Redskins (Stone Cold!!)

Tennessee Titans

Cincinnati Bengals

Miami Dolphins

Kansas City Chiefs

San Francisco 49ers

My six teams:

Oakland- tough schedule,significant departures

Cincinnati

Washington

Minnesota

Buffalo

Cleveland- they are improving but division too difficult

Those are some good additions, but it remains to be seen if it translates into strong enough defensive play to make the playoffs. Their D line and secondary have been bad for awhile. I'm not sure that adding one DB is going to change that overmuch.

NFF South is maybe the toughest in the NFL (again). Carolina has pieces, especially on defense, but I don't see how they move ahead of the other teams in their division. Barring injury to QBs to Ryan, Brees, and Freeman, they're going to struggle.

NFC NORTH is the best division. :football:

Hard to say that with Chi and Minn in that division. And Det will have to live up to the hype (re: wins) to make that claim also.

Minnesota is the bottom of the division IMO but they did pick up a good QB and they have the best RB in the league so you cant count them out.Chicago is the defending division champs and went to the NFC Championship game so I don't quite understand your comment about them. Yeah they are aging and the o-line sucks well that o-line sucked last year too.Detroit was playing much better the end of last season and they have improved their team. They haven't proved themselves completely I agree. Plus Stafford is a ? with health. they are still an up and coming team. I don't know too many people who would disagree.Green Bay made it to the post season and won the Super Bowl. Self Explanatory.I don't think it would shock too many people if any of the North teams made the playoffs this season. Can you say that about the South (Carolina)?

i think there is a very good chance that 3 teams from the NFC south go to the playoffs. the north might get two but i suspect it's only one. they narrowly avoided that scenario last year but the packers got some help to sneak into the play offs.

The packers got some help from the Lions(North) beating the Bucs(South). You might be right about the North only getting one team in the post season. But that kind of makes my point. The North is so good that they will beat up on each other. While the Bucs, Saints and Falcons get two easier games against the Panthers.

Washington - Rex Grossman or John Beck all that is need to be said.

Miami - I am not sold at all on their QB situation and I have a sneaky feeling about buffalo being better then people expect so i will go with them to finish last in their division. they could be 8-8 and finish in last.

Oakland - They had a decent team last year, swept their division and finshed 8-8. They lost a lot of talent off their team and Al Davis is beyond Senile.

Carolina - They will obviously be improved, but this is going to be a very tough division and I'll take my chances that they won't get a wild card.

Cleveland - I liked them if they would have kept Mangini, but now they have a new coach and system.

Cincinnati - Rookie Qb and Wr, I'll take my chances with that. Pittsburg and Baltimore are basically locks to make the playoffs.

The Bengals have Carson Palmer and Marvin Lewis they dont quite fit the profile. I see the Bengals will screw up this list quite a bit

Bengals

Broncos

Dolphins

Bills

Browns

Redskins

Common theme is I expect these teams to have bad defenses.

DolphinsBengalsRaidersRedskinsPanthersTitansnow to get bold with 6 more:BillsGiantsBrownsLionsJaguarsVikings
Redskins might and Titans are winning but my top 6 look ok right now. Lions and Bills are proving me wrong.

:lmao: I was wrong about the Redskins but right about the NFC East. I couldn't understand why anyone thought it was a strong division in the preseason, other than media bias. The Cowboys did almost nothing to address the problems (O Line and virtually every spot other than Ware on defense) that made them a 6-10 team in 2010. The Giants are a solid organization but IMO have overachieved thus far considering their injury woes. At this point I wouldn't be surprised by any of the four teams winning the division with a 10-6 record.

How about the locks for playoffs, and a pool of potential wild card?

Locks - SF, GB, NO; NE, Bal, Hou

In the mix - NYG, Dal, Phi, Det, Atl, TB; NYJ, Pit, SD, Oak

Outside shot - Ari, Was; Buf, Ten

No chance - Sea, StL, Chi, Min, Car; Mia, Cle, Cin, Jax, Ind, Den, KC

ya theres no way anyone in the nfc west is a lock for anything. likewise, its absurd to bank on a kubiak coached texans team after week 4. bengals, browns and and bears are all undoubtedly in the mix at this point.

Pittsburgh - Missed the playoffs after last 2 Superbowl appearances. Might as well make it 3Dallas - Close, but not quite.San Diego- KC improving every day.
