LSU:

JaMarcus Russell, QB: Daunte Culpepper 2.0

Dwayne Bowe, WR: Hands, tough runner after catch, good technician, definitely has NFL starter potential

Keiland Williams, RB: Phrosh Phenom is a bruiser with burst

Arkansas:

Darren McFadden, RB: Your #1 overall rookie pick in 2008. Not the most powerful lower body, but who cares. Sort a cross between Reggie Bush (versatility) and Adrian Peterson (determination as a workhorse RB). Yep, he's really that good.

Marcus Monk, WR: Great Hands, Very long frame, Quick and fast for very tall WR. Colston-esque

Feel free to discuss these (my 5 favorites) and anyone else on either side of the ball.

Ryan Perrilloux...

You think he'd like to have a mulligan?

Landry-S; LSU...That kid can play.

I agree that he'll be the #1 pick in 2008. I also agree that he'll be really good. But, the less powerful lower body is a concern IMO. Off hand, I'd rank him below both AP and Bush, probably just below Maroney as well. But, he might get stronger before the 2008 draft.

Scoring SummaryFIRST QUARTER

TD 12:31 Darren McFadden rush for 1 yard for a TOUCHDOWN.

TD 4:51 Keiland Williams rush for 29 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. Colt David extra point GOOD.

SECOND QUARTER

TD 10:56 JaMarcus Russell pass complete to Craig Davis for 47 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. Colt David extra point GOOD.

TD 7:16 Casey **** pass complete to Marcus Monk for 21 yards for a TOUCHDOWN.

I'd say that's pretty good forecasting there, Mr. Bloom.

Oh, and $20 on Dwayne Bowe for a TD in the second half, please.

What am I missing? Why isn't Mustain plyaing?
He should have been put in during the first half. Casey **** was bad today. He replaced Mustain a few games ago and has done well. Nutt stuck with **** (these names???) and rode him to a loss (no euphemisms). I won't be surprised if these two teams switch rankings this week.

I thought the same thing about Russell, hope his NFL career turns out better.& BTW, I can't wait until D-Mc is in the League!!! His ability is unreal! I don't know much about Peterson (hate OU) except that people say he is good. I do think that McFadden is a bigger version of Bush & hopefully better since he can run between the tackles and will run over you. He looks to be more of a one-cut runner and heads downfield quick. What could this guy do in Denver???

This was a great game in the best conference in the country - The SEC.Let's start with my favorite team, the LSU Bayou Bengals:

JaMarcus Russell - You must read The Ones 2 Watch

written by me and Bloom. We've followed Russell all throughout his LSU career, and it's looking promising for his pro prospects.

Dwayne Bowe - Big, physical playmaker. He did not play high school football until his junior season, but hasn't looked back since he started playing. Uses his size to beat jams off the line and get into his route.

Craig Davis - More quick than fast. Good concentration, good hands, looks the ball in every time. Grades as a 2nd day possession receiver IMHO.

Early Doucet - The #1 high school WR prospect when he committed to LSU. He is EXTREMELY explosive with the ball in his hands. He needs to work on ball security. Has a good understanding of the game to go with elite speed and elite quickness/agility.

Keiland Williams - Had a solid prep career. Rushed for over 2,500 yards and 30 TD's his junior season. His senior season he went to a military academy and became their first ever 1,000 yard rusher (around 1,300 yards with 12 TD's) Was the 115th ranked RB when he declared. USC was interested in this kid as well. Has outplayed some blue chip backs ahead of him on the depth chart (Broussard, Vincent, Robinson, Scott, Murphy). He's big, strong, and fast. He needs to be more patient as a runner and dance less in the backfield.

Now on to the fabulous Arkansas Razorbacks:

Darren McFadden - is the man. I have nearly every one of his college games on tape, and I am always impressed when I watch him. This season he has taken his game to an even higher level. I said earlier in the year, on the air, that he was the best back in the country. Alfred Williams and I got into a big debate about DMcF vs. AP. In recent weeks Alfred has come around on McFadden, although he thinks that AP is still better. Use every superlative you can on Darren, he's awesome and has great pro prospects.

Felix Jones - is a super soph. I am writing him up in The Dark Phoenix so be on the lookout for that next week. A completely different back from McFadden, but a good one nonetheless.

Marcus Monk - has a ton of big time ability. His size and leaping ability are just crazy. He is quickly moving his way up the draft boards. It will be interesting to see if he stays, or declares for the NFL.

Mitch Mustain - is a young QB, but a top QB prospect and the Razorbacks will use him extensively in the future.

Keep in mind that he is just 19 years old, and won't be 20 until next Aug. He's listed at 6'2 and 205 and has the body frame to add some weight. He is also coming off a major, major inury to his left big toe sufferred in late July.IMO he'll be better than all the running backs you listed, and the best back from the SEC since Bo (that includes Alexander).

I'm a die hard Hog fan, but I don't get on these board pimping Razorbacks too often. I've never been more impressed by an Arkansas player than I am with McFadden. The three things that impress me the most are his speed, his stiff arm, and his willingness to take on tacklers. That is a tough trio of attributes to defend.

About his taking on tacklers, I have seen him completely pancake a would be tackler at least five times this season, once in person. Maybe his weight is on the somewhat low range, but he's got the mass x acceleration thing in his favor. Under a full head of steam, SEC defenders seem to prefer to grab him rather than play smashmouth.

Agreed with all the skill players mentioned. I was also impressed with;

RB Felix Jones- had over 100 yards. (Soph.)

LB Sam Olajubutu - A little undersized 5-9 225 but hits like a train (Sr.)

CB Chris Houston 5-11 188 very physical (Jr.)

DE Jamaal Anderson 6-6 280 (Jr.)

I have McFadden in a league where we can keep college players, so I've been watching almost every game. As has been stated here, he's fantastic. But I think the most amazing thing about him is his ability to quickly and correctly read the play. He goes very quick to the hole when he should and slows up to read blocks when he should. A lot of young RBs do not have that skill. Either they run straight up into the line all the time, or they dance around waiting for a hole all the time. I think this leads to or is the result of his QB snaps in the Wildcat formation. Having a RB who is good at reading defenses is a huge plus. And he's a Sophomore. Incredible.

Ex Auburn head coach Pat Dye is on record mulitple times saying McFadden is the best back in the SEC since the Herschel/Bo days. Pretty high praise for a 19 yr old true sophmore.

This is the only link I can find, and it's really no more than a blurb in the article, but he's been on record in local alabama papers stating the same thing. link

IMO he'll be better than all the running backs you listed, and the best back from the SEC since Bo (that includes Alexander).
As an Alabama fan, I've been familiar with McFadden since early '05. But the statement above also includes Emmitt Smith....along with other top-10 picks Fred Taylor and Jamal Lewis.

Here is an article containing the Dye quote (among others) regarding McFadden.Pat Dye:

"There's been some great backs in this conference since they (Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson) were here," Dye said. "But I believe McFadden is the best running back we've had in this conference since Bo."
Tommy Tuberville:
"He's as good as we've seen in our league in a while, maybe across the country," Tuberville said. "He's a special running back. He's got the size, the speed and the quicks. If you go back and look at Ronnie Brown and Carnell, two great football players, and neither one of them had the burst after 5 yards that this kid's got. He's got the total package."

Thanks for the quotes, Clayton.

He's a stud, no doubt. But I just wanted to stress who Dye and others are saying he is BETTER than...the NFL's all-time leading rusher.

Let's reel in the hype a little...1 in a million RBs will live up to that ridiculous statement.
