'Skins tribute to Taylor (1 Viewer)

I don't see much point to that but...whatever, it's nice and I'm sure there will be plenty of memorial and tribute stuff soon.

Very, very nice touch. :goodposting:

Not football related, but it reminds me of how the Supermodified racing community handled the passing of Jim Shampine in 1982. He was to Supers what, say, Brett Farve is to the Packers. Shampine was killed in a racing accident in a different class of car the night before. In the race they left his third starting position open, and the entire field was brought into the pits on lap 199 of the 200 lap race (the leader on 199 the official winner) and the 200th lap was for Shampine.

I think it was Bradshaw that said the Bills should take a knee.
They should take a knee for a 5 yard loss and the Skins should follow with illegal use of hands/holding for 5 yards and an automatic first down, making it a wash.

That was really stupid. Why let the other team get a free 22 yard run on you?

There are ways to honor the deceased, that isn't one of them.

Their thoughts are not about this game, much less one play. I think it was a very cool thing to do.

Many of you guys aren't old enough to remember it but one of the coolest things I remember seeing was Bo Kimble shooting a Free Throw lefthanded in honor of Hank Gathers in the NCAA tourney game.

http://www.sportscolumn.com/story/2007/3/4/14158/21340

The story began when the NCAA Tournament committee showed not one ounce of compassion for the little school from Los Angeles and seeded them #11 in the West despite their national ranking and largely due to the death of their star. This meant that the Lions were paired off with a solid New Mexico State team in the first round. It was just a regular game, until Bo Kimble took his first free throw left-handed in honor of Hank. Swish. It was then that you looked into the eyes of the LMU players and saw that a tournament run was forming. Bo Kimble absolutely shredded the Aggies on that evening. Kimble would eventually parlay his college success into being an NBA lottery pick. He never had the career so many expected out of him. However, one could argue (and quite successfully) that after giving so much in that March, he had nothing left to give to the game of basketball. It should be noted that in every tournament game, he shot his first free throw left-handed. He never missed one of them.
I remember  when he lifted the ball with his left hand. And then :goodposting: once he drilled it.J

USC did this in their first game of this season.

Their kicker died in the offseason. When they scored the first TD of the first game, they lined up for the extra point without a kicker. They just sat there in formation for 20 seconds, and then took the delay penalty. If I'm not mistaken, it was Pete Carroll's idea, and he didn't even tell the team about it (well, he must have told the kicker, I guess). So it was a surprise to them. They thought it was cool.

 It was a surprise to everyone. It was pretty cool to see the crowd start to realize what was going on.

It was at the time the coolest thing I had ever seen in the realm of sports. I was a kid just getting into the NCAA and after that you couldn't help but root for LMU.

nice.

a sean taylor tribute thread flushed right into the gutter by the pats haters.

real classy.

you guys need to get a life, this obsession is unhealthy --- is it possible that a thread on this board doesn't turn into a pats thread?

It was a joke.Relax Francis.

I'm kind of wishing they'd have started with no coaches on the sideline to honor Taylor.
You aren't kidding. Hopefully Gibbs decides to step down after this season is over. I love him, but he has got to go. I am hoping the organization offers him something upstairs.

I liked it. It's a shame the team looked under prepared and out of practice this week. Anyway, good game by the Bills.

You think the owner of the site is above being a blatant Pats hater? He's their leader and seemingly very proud of it.

For those interested, here's a tribute to Hank Gathers with the Bo Kimble shot (although only touched on briefly):

Wrong. Or show me where I'm wrong. I'm sure if you're going to make a whine that loud, you'll have lots of quotes to back it up where I am a "blatant pats hater". Let's see. J

I think underprepated and out of practice is to be expected, wouldnt you think?
Absolutely. They looked alot like I thought they would this week, I was hoping that emotion alone could carry them to a win, but I certainly don't blame the players or the coaches for this loss.

I disagree, they looked fine to me. The effort for most was there, they weren't missing a bunch of tackles and didn't have real mental break down's. What we had was a poor OL day as the Bills pressured Campbell ALL DAY and hit Portis at the line of scrimmage ALL DAY. Add that they had major drives that would only net a FG, offense get out of synch in 2nd half, while Bills started to take advantage. After all of this, you sprinkle on some poor game clock management by the coaching staff...TA DA! You get what we got...at least that is how I saw it.

Pretty cool.From ESPN.com

As the Buffalo Bills got ready to run their first play midway through the first quarter, the man who replaced Taylor in the starting lineup, Reed Doughty, stood near coaches on the sideline with his arms crossed. After watching while Bills running back Fred Jackson gained 22 yards, Doughty entered for the next play -- and made the tackle.
How did Doughty play the rest of the game?J

He plays okay. Surely not as athletic and hinders the ability to run the same exact defense that had Sean in there. Though, comparing him to ST is not fair either. Again he does okay, but his play can be forgotten as a whole. He's just one of the guys and surprisingly he starts over Pierson Prioleau, but the coaching staff has liked him enough in the past to keep him as a 5th or 6th Safety on the roster. He will not be the starter next year unless something changes, so...basically he's a fill-in as of now.

Belichick may get his chance

POSTED 1:22 p.m. EST, December 2, 2007'SKINS GO WITH TEN DEFENDERSThe Washington Redskins have honored safety Sean Taylor by using only ten defensive players for the first snap of Sunday's game against the Bills. A reader suggested that the NFC team should honor Taylor in this way to start the Pro Bowl

man...death kinda sucks all around. I really like it when individuals, teams, people, organizations, fans, and family pay tribute....even if 10 men on defense....

Did Gibbs and Jauron have a gentleman's agreement prior to the game that Buffalo would run the ball on the first play? People in this thread knew Washington would only have ten men on the first play, so certainly Buffalo had to know as well. How much crap would Edwards have taken if he audibled to a deep ball to Evans?

:ptts:
