Sleeper Defenses The Rest Of The Way... (1 Viewer)

As usual, as the very first Add/Drop in my entire (money) league, I dropped the Titans defense and picked up Arizona for a one week play against a, then, weak SF.

There are currently only three teams in my league that have more than one defense. And I assume this is the case in most 12 team leagues with a roster limit of 14 players.

There are defenses like skins, 49rs, Jaguars, Raiders, Seahawks, Dolphins etc still available in most leagues.

Also, teams are dropping Defenses like the Pats and Colts.

Which sleeper D is going to be the best from here on out?

Also, consider the Best D considering Matchups vs. the best D generally.

It's amazing how many points good Defenses provide in a standard league - 20-30 points per week. It's also amazing that the highest scoring defense - TEN in most leagues - was drafted in the very late rounds - 14th, that is, last - in my league.

Also, how many people believe in keeping 2 D's on their rosters?

D's truly are a potential difference maker in terms of points.

Thoughts/Opinions?

Depends on the league and what the tendencies of the other players are and the scoring.

I play in one league (12 team/16 man rosters) where I often carry 2 Defenses as their scores are among the highest positional scoring, almost the same as QB in that league. Most teams only carry 1 or 2 so I usually can carry 2 top 10 Defenses and play matchups. Occasionally, I'll even pick up a 3rd Defense to keep my opponent from getting them. But this league has some odd scorign quirks and only starts 2WR so there is room on the roster for this.

My other two leagues are 12 team with 16 and 18 man rosters. I never carry 2 Defenses in those, and most of the other teams only carry 1 defensse as well, so it works out. These leagues have more traditional scoring and lineup requirements.

good thread, thanks for posting. i like george's strategy, but in my league (6 team AFC-only, 16 team rosters), i like to keep roster spots open for as many talented skill players as i can, but i never really gave much credence to matchup playing...though i should. i have the patriots defense and am feeling a bit uneasy as they got me a sweet -4 last week. i picked up the houston texans defense this week, but i'm obviously a bit uneasy about going back to the patriots D next week.

of the 6 teams in my league, i would say 3 have two defenses. i probably should do matchups more, but i don't think i have the requisite knowledge to do that skillfully enough.

I picked up the Cards and Skins. Not powerhouses on their own but play the match-ups and you may do ok.

It's also amazing completely predictable that the highest scoring defense - TEN in most leagues - was drafted in the very late rounds - 14th, that is, last - in my league.
:corrected:The best value are always the WW and last or next to last round Ds that play as top-5 Ds. That's why most of us wait till late to draft our D rather than spending mid-range picks on one with a preseason top-3 ranking.

HoustonThis week against the Jags, a semi-toughie against Indy, and then Miami, Detroit and Cinn.
:confused:The best matchup here in points against leagues might be the Jags. All of Det, Mia and Cinn have the ability to rack up points late in games.

i'm in the same boat...i drop and add D's every week, but never have the D that puts up 20-30pts. There are several good D's in my league. I currently have the Ravens, but want to pick up another

Available

Eagles

Bills

Redskins

Chargers

Vikings

True and if Defense scoring was only points allowed than it may look worse. Cinn has given 9 sacks, 3 int and has looked struggling in its first 3 games. Detroit has given 12 sacks, 6 int and two interceptions returned for TDs. Mia hasn't given as much with only 6 sacks and 1 int but other than chickenwinging it against NE they have really struggled offensively. With all three, their defense are not too good meaning that they should be down late, giving more chances for sacks and ints.

You got to go with Either the Bills or Eagles

Yea, I was also curious of what other teams were doing now that we've gotten into the bye wks and what WW defenses people were considering.

For me, I've got SEA I've got to replace and have available:

Philly

Jax

Buff

All 3 are highly ranked and play inferior opponents.

Saints.

Once they get healthy they will be much better and they play some favorable match ups in the NFC south. Atl especially.

The Jags scored me zero points this week. The Cards got me 1 or 2 the week before. I usually try to play matchups, but that hasn't been working too well for me so far. Luckily Seattle was dropped last week. Hopefully I can get them, if so I plan to use them the rest of year. They should get better.
