Sleeper WR? Chad Jackson Anyone? (1 Viewer)

If he is healthy and last week would seem to indicate that he is, then he will IMO relatively quickly become NE's #1 WR. I was ridiculed for saying as much a week ago but I saw nothing last Sunday to convince me otherwise. If you are looking for a WR with decent upside the rest of the way, Chad Jackson is a player worth considering now. If he plays well and or scores again this week he will likely not be so easy to grab.

I'm a Steeler fan and anything but a Pat homer and I'd say if you've got a chance to grab Jackson do it right now if you are in a relatively deep league.For a guy who missed a lot of practice and is playing with a QB who is playing below his normal level he was a dropped pass away from having 92 yards and 2 TD's in his first NFL game. If thats not upside I don't know what is.

Already picked him up yesterday. His first game was very promising. NE needs a gifted, speedy receiver. Jackson was hyped out of college. And the Patriots didn't mess up that other rookie pick....He could be special..

Jackson, right now, has far more potential than Deion Branch ever had here as a FF WR.Not saying that you in particular were ever on the Branch fantasy football bandwagon, but I know that a lot of people here were.

I have a hunch that the Patriots will want to target Jackson a fair bit to help establish him as a legitimate threat and give their passing game some credibility. The onus will be on Jackson to produce, but he has talent and Tom Brady throwing him the ball, as well as a dominant rushing attack to take off some of the pressure... Not a bad position for a rookie WR to be in.

I am just not a believer in any receiver on the Pats as viable #1 or #2 fantasy option, yet. I love Jacksons upside as an NFL receiver, but fantasy wise, their week to week schemes are more to take teams by surprise and take advantage of the open man, not to gamplan to a guy. That said, if Jackson can show the unreal ability that I've seen from Troy Williamson over the first two games, in getting open at will, we may have a true fantasy option in NE, which we haven't seen in the BB era.

The Branch loss will hurt in the short run, no doubt. But, I am of the belief that in the long run, Jackson is a signifigant upgrade in what he brings to the table. Of course he would have been a better compliment, but the Patriots are not going to collapse because he's the fill in. What I've seen, I like, but the nagging hammy is a bother.

I have been following Jackson closely since his sophomore year in high school at Hoover in Alabama (school from MTV's Two a Days). He was the Alabama Player of the Year his senior year and was largely responsible for getting that program on the map. Lotsa people around here were pretty upset he went out of state for college.

Don't know if any of you saw it this summer, but they had a skills challenge for incoming NFL rookies and he was hands down the most amazing receiver there. In the catch drill he BLEW AWAY everyone else and showed amazing hands. He has performed at the highest level every where he has played and I expect the pros will be no different.

I don't think so. When you have an MVP QB and your best WR is a TE Jackson could be very good. I activated him this week. Of rookies he and Greg Jennings had the most upside because they are almost instant starters.

No but I saw him blow everyone away at the combine and I read NE reporters say how did this guy not go in the first round. That first catch last week over the top of the DB showed his ability. The drop was bad but he said he'll fix that.

Draft well and avoid injuries and the foundation of your team is set. Then, hit paydirt with a late round or Wwire gem, and the championship is yours.

How do you find a gem? assess his talent and his situation.

A player like Chad Jackson is worth stashing away on your roster. He was considered one of the top 2 WRs coming out of the draft (i.e. talent) and now he's on a team with no #1 WR and catching passes from an all world QB.

And yeah, it'll probably take until mid season before he hits stride. And that seems to me to be perfect timing with NE facing teams like IND, MIA (x2), NYJ, GB, DET, HOU.

I just don't understand what's NOT to like.

to add a bit more:NE was so high on Chad Jackson because of his football intelligence. The Pats have been looking for that prototypical big (and fast) target WR for a while now (Donald Hayes, David Terrell, etc) but every time they bring a guy in, he's dumber n' a stump.On different occasions, NE gave Chad Jackson portions of their playbook and tested him on it. He aced those tests every time.This idea that NE only drafts good character guys is, IMO, a bit over played. I believe that NE only drafts/signs players that they feel have a high level of football intelligence and it just so happens that if you're smart on the football field, you're often smarter about things off the field too because you're just... well... plain smarter about things in general.

Anyway, I am interested in any hard news we have on him. Did he enter the game as the 3rd receiver? When did he enter and what % of plays was he on the field for? Was he used at wideout/flanker, and how are these postions used in the NE offense? I know by Drinins stats he was targeted 3 times.
