I really don't like either J Roll at 38 or Davis at 26. Han Ram and Reyes went slightly above what I'd be willing to pay for them (a little over 40), but the difference between J Roll and the top two is pretty big imo. I wouldn't pay more than 25 for J Roll.I don't think 26 for Davis is as bad as 38 for J Roll, but that's an awful lot for a risky player, his ceiling probably isn't much more than 30 and his floor is a lot lower than 26. I think Davis and Votto are very similar in value, if Davis went for 26 I'd expect Votto to go for about the same.Hardy for 21 is just horrible.Given how much many are going for now there are going to be a ton of bargains at the end of this auction.
It's like my father used to always tell me, "guru_007, if all your friends jumped off a building, are you going to jump off too?" Ramirez went for too much too, but you're building a team here, not just comparing player to player to see who got the best bargain. Ramirez probably should have went for 38, Rollins for mid-high 20's.In this format, unless a bargain was screaming out, I would probably pass for the first few days at least. Everyone is going to overspend on players. Not just because it's a slow auction, but it's also February, no one has anything better to do than think about a bid and have high expectations. And like I said earlier, starting pitching is only worth roughly 35% of your scoring. I'd wait, wait, wait for pitching. He went for 10 bucks cheaper than Hanley. Roughly 20% cheaper...is he really going to outperform Rollins by THAT much?
I haven't been following along so I don't know if you already have a couple of stud OFers or not but if you try to fill out your entire OF with $5 (or less) players you will lose.then scrounge for <5 dollar OF's.
Well I will say a prayer, but it looks like I have already overbid for his services. If this is a 2 catcher league I would spend up to $20 on McCann, but not any more than that. If I were you I'd hope to get out bid and then bow out.
That's true if you're talking average value. But the only price that really matters to D. Rock is the price in this auction, not average prices. If everybody overspends early and you can pick up $15 OFs for $5, that can be a winning strategy (if you spend wisely elsewhere and get lucky)I haven't been following along so I don't know if you already have a couple of stud OFers or not but if you try to fill out your entire OF with $5 (or less) players you will lose.then scrounge for <5 dollar OF's.
Well, I am open to siggestions....but I am gonna have to be a cheapskate somewhere and I don't know where else to save money.OF seems like it has plenty of guys at the bottom of the heap that are ok....second base and stuff....not so much.I haven't been following along so I don't know if you already have a couple of stud OFers or not but if you try to fill out your entire OF with $5 (or less) players you will lose.then scrounge for <5 dollar OF's.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?We'll....I feel like I need to join another league...I feel like I have already screwed the pooch in this one already.

As far as I can tell, every single person has been over spent for...We havent bid on a single player the last 3 day. We are just gonna save our money and hope to get a bunch of decent players. But I have a feeling we are just going to get bid up and end up overspending for the cheap guys anyway. Some quick stats for everyone.46% of the leagues money has been spent....We have filled 21% of our starters and 17% of our total roster spots..That is a little crazy IMO.You'd better get the 2007 MVP numbers from Rollins if you're gonna spend $38 on him.
go 22-25. hes good.Question for the big boys:I nominated Carlos Lee, and I nominated him for 20 bucks. He sat there for a few hours....10 people viewed him and nobody bid 21..Finally someone bid 21, should I go 22 in hopes of getting him or let him slide and just continue to save my money? He seems like an awfully good source of HR's, RBI, AVG, Ks, R....just a solid player IMO.
You got it..Finallly got the green light from a FBG to spend some cheddar.go 22-25. hes good.Question for the big boys:I nominated Carlos Lee, and I nominated him for 20 bucks. For 4 bucks? I thought it was a steal...He is consistent and steady...only downside is he strikes out a lot. I thought 4 dollars was a good buy.Why are you so upset about losing out on Casey Blake of all people?![]()
Probably, but it's nothing to get bent out of shape about. There's several other 3B's available that should produce better or equal numbers to Blake that will be just as cheap. For 4 bucks? There will be better $4 bargains later on. Blake's chances of significantly outperforming a $4 price tag aren't very high.I think whoever sniped you probably did you a favor. For 4 bucks? Speaking of this, due to people partnering up you've been moved from alternate to full-fledged member in the Set Us Up The Leeg thread. You can roll dice for draft position now.We'll....I feel like I need to join another league...I feel like I have already screwed the pooch in this one already.
I heard...I am looking things over as I type this.Speaking of this, due to people partnering up you've been moved from alternate to full-fledged member in the Set Us Up The Leeg thread. In that case, Casey Blake is a solid sleeper that you shouldn't miss out on. PASSUggla is hurt by your format. Poor OBP and lots of Ks.Furcal plays a position you already spent a lot on.Uggla at 16 and Furcal at 18....Should I let em slide? Or bid once more?

Thanks. I am doing my very best to stay disciplined.Right now..Chad Billingsley is on the board and people are struggling to come up with money, so he will go cheap. As for position players we are looking at that havent been nominated:Jorge CantuJames LoneyNick SwisherMark DeRosaPlacido Polanco (We need BA and OBP and K help)Vernon WellsDelmon YoungJD Drew (OBP guy)Jeff Francuer (My fave player, gonna take everything I have to hold back...need OF assists as a category)Eric ByrnesAdam JonesShin-Soo Choo (Heard you guys talking about him)Pitchers:Aaron HarangClayton KershawKevin SloweyMatt CainYovani GollardoManny ParraPaul MalholmChein Ming WangWe will see how it goes, but there just isnt enough money for these guys to go for fair market value IMO.Just wanted to add that I think you've done better with your last few pickups. I love Cano at that price, and Pence should easily earn his $$ as well.
I would love them.Well this is getting to be real difficult to update with so many players...If anyone wants my spreadsheet of the auction values after things wrap up, I will gladly email them.
Lots of great, bargain pitchers there - Slowey, YoGa, Kershaw, Harang, Cain, Parra, Maholm in that order.I'd be hot after Adam Jones and Choo if I were you. DeRosa's great for his flexibility if he's cheap enough.Thanks.
