Snowpiercer - The Best Sci-Fi Movie Since Moon (1 Viewer)

High praise I know, but that's what I think it is. I don't want to say anything about it other than watch it. It's a Korean movie but almost all of it is in English.

I watched this the other day. I was entertained, but I really loved Moon, considered it more of a thinking man's sci-fi flick and I'm not sure I'd put this in that echelon. This struck me as mindless action absurdity, though well done, for the most part.

Early on I really thought the two dudes were gonna do it :oldunsure: NTTWHBAWWT

Seems like a lot of people missed the point of the movie. It wasn't an action flick.

I very much wanted to like this movie, but it made very little sense. :tfp:
Now I understand why the Weinstein's wanted to cut the movie by 20 minutes for American audiences:

The goal, said TWC when explaining the request to Bong, is to make sure his film “will be understood by audiences in Iowa… and Oklahoma.” Weinstein also asked for introductory and closing voice-overs to be added in.

The problem wasn't the length or that I didn't understand what was going on. I understood perfectly. The problem was that the premise was completely illogical.

I just watched this and felt the same as the OP. I really enjoyed this movie. Checked it out on IMDB and its clocking in as a love it or hate flick. No one is really in the middle about it. A lot of 1 stars and a lot of 10 stars.

Worth the time to watch. At least it was something outside the box, and I'd recommend to all.

It is Bong's adaptation of a French graphic novel which reminded me of The Hunger Game... class system in a post-apocalyptic world.

Here is the animated prequel and movie trailer. It opened in Korea last year and will be released in the US this June. Not exactly my cup of tea but some of you will like it.

It's now available on VOD. I'm one of those in the middle about it. Give it a B. Maybe even a B-. Props for an interesting setting and a fair degree of originality in the first act (though some of the more "original" aspects felt distinctly Lynchian). Went downhill a bit in act II and some of the special effects felt like they were a decade old. Tilda Swinton with a standout performance (really the only one in a pretty good cast).

There you go, we're all stupid.
I wouldn't go that far, but you missed the point. It's like watching 2001 and saying it's boring space movie.
No I'm pretty sure I was completely bludgeoned by the point
Exactly. It wasn't subtle.
The point you guys are referring to isn't as simple as you're making in out to be. I've seen it twice now and liked it even more the second time.

I think they focused on the wrong part of the story. The interesting part was when the rear car people first boarded and what they had to go through after getting on. THAT would have made a great film, but it was merely mentioned.. The story about the rest of train (and especially the ending) needed more work.

Saw this a couple weeks ago.

Best post-apocalyptic film I've ever seen.

Who said it was simple? We said it wasn't subtle.

It's a The Raid: Redemption meets Hunger Games meets The Matrix Revolutions (The Architect) mashup

Was OK...Way overhyped IMO
Overhyped? This thread is the only place I have even heard of this film. Was it even in theaters?
It's in limited release now.
Interesting, I just checked and it is playing in a theater near me. I have never seen or heard anything about this film outside of this thread.

Just from the trailer this reminded me of Hugh Howey's "Wool".

Without having seen it, though, I could be way off base.

I guess. She did a good part with her role, but I didn't really enjoy her character or think it was really profound or anything. She was like an over acted harry potter villain for most of the movie.

This movie is a lot less clever than it thinks it is.

Most of the ideas and topics it tries to cover are  in 2014.
