Is there a team you would NOT have liked him on?Jacksonville seems like a rough landing spot, short-term at least.I like Blackmon in Jax
This. If you're talking dynasty the QB shouldn't drop him down your list. Things change quick and some assumptions (Green-Dalton-Cincy) don't always work out as expected.People were downgrading AJ Green last year bc of landing in Cinci with a rookie QB. That seemed to work out ok.
True. However, many are also writing him off because Gabbert didn't show the ability to make throw into tight windows at Missouri (especially in the red zone) and in his rookie year he sensed pressure in the pocket when it wasn't there. When pressure was there he looked like a deer in headlights.Dynasty drafters that select solely on talent won't adjust their big board but those of us that take situation into account will. There's no doubt Blackmon's stock didn't go up last night...how much it fell depends on your draft philosophy.People writing (Gabbert) off due to young age, poor coaching, no weapons outside of MJD, hurt OL, and zero preparation time last year, seems silly to me. But to each there own. Not deterring me from jumping on blackmon
Not that Henne is great, but I think he'd be able to get the ball to Blackmon so if Gabbart is as bad as many suspect, he'll be replaced fairly early. I'm still full on the Blackmon bandwagon, though my expectations are tempered for year 1.True. Agreed on Henne; right now he's better than Gabbert. I look at Brandon Marshall's numbers in Miami and I don't see an uptick when Henne was in there (and it's not like the competition has been great when it wasn't Henne in there). In fact Marshall had his worst season in Miami the year Henne started all year.None of this means that Blackmon won't be a solid pro, it just gives me pause and caps his upside. Something that I wouldn't do if he went to the Rams, Vikings, or a few other teams that could have traded up for him.Not that Henne is great, but I think he'd be able to get the ball to Blackmon so if Gabbart is as bad as many suspect, he'll be replaced fairly early. Mayock did have Gabbert very high last year. He said at one point should have been taken over Newton. I understand him struggling for sure but I have read good things. Prisco had a great article not long ago on Gabbert. I think it comes down to coaching and heart and he seems to have both right now. But he was high in Mayocks opinion and one bad rookie year wont change my opinion. Things have improved big time for Jags from a year ago and he has been working hard this off-season already including working with a QB guru. He is doing all the correct things to improve. Will he. I cant say. Maybe he is a bust but I see a ton of promise and Blackmon will be targeted big time. And if Gabbert fails, than Jags have failed and they will get a new QB. We are talking 10 to 12 years for Blackmon to provide help for 2/3 of those years. He is my pick for sure at the 1.2. Micheal Irvin calls him a beast. He made Weeden the 22nd pick overall also.True. I think it's the worst-case scenario too, but I'm not dropping him past the No. 2 slot. The simple fact is yes, I am downgrading him. Jacksonville is the only place I did not want to see him land. I'm a Blackmon fan and do not see how this is anything but the worst case scenario for him. I have tried and from any angle it's a negative.
And changing a Qb guarantees improvement? I think what people are saying is that the situation isn't good and you can't guarantee that a change improves things.but lets be realistic, we have watched football enough to know how this will really play out.If gabbart shows ANY improvement, he gets another year. So he can go from truly terrible to just stinks and we get him another year. Then if he struggles in 2014, Henne comes in and replaces him for the rest of the year. Then in 2015 (2015!), we are back to square one with an other unproven rookie OR the FOTM backup free agent. I think people are just saying this probably tempers immediate success. THis could be the WR version of JSTEW.I don't think so. He's a rookie WR. If Gabbert is just as bad this year as he was last year, the Jags will have a new QB next year. So in dynasty formats, perhaps you can talk up the "Gabbert sucks" mantra and steal him at pick 3 or 4.
neither does anyone else who watched it.Is anyone dowgrading floyd for sounding like an idiot? I still dont know what he said in his interview last night.
He is not putting in the work, is it because he got paid and doesn't care? or is it because he is on an awful team with an abomination of a QB? I don't know, we'll find out next year I guess. So what's the verdict on this guy?Are we placing most of the blame on his hideous QB, or is he just not getting separation like he did in college? And is there any reason for optimism in dynasty?

I agree. This is just putting words to an opinion, of course, but its almost like he is just not used to playing on a struggling team and he doesn't stay focussed/interested through all 4 quarters. Just not trying to make an impact. As of now, he clearly isn't the best WR on the team. This could be a slippery slope for him. We might wake up one day and say " I can't believe he has been in the league for 4 years and not really done anything."My biggest complaint with Blackmon is that I see no desire from him. He has the skills to be a very good WR in this league, maybe one of the more dominate WRs. He just doesn't seem to care. I really noticed this a couple of weeks ago during the Packers game. He was cutting routes short. Not running hard or coming back to the QB if Gabbert was on the run. Didn't seem to go after some balls that I believe he's capable of catching. Basically calling it a game before the game was over.
Agreed. Regardless of the situation you want to see that fire and desire. Everyone is talented in the nfl and your measurables will get you in the door but the mental part of the game is what separates the good from the great. Desire and motivation has to be within and when it's not there or guys have to "learn" it at this stage it often doesn't end well. Take a guy like d. Moore last year... He was in a similar crappy situation but he was bringing it every practice and game. Blackmons book isn't written yet but the 1st chapter was pretty bad.I agree. AND he doesn't seem to throw well to his right. Anyone else notice that? The picksix was to his right, poor throws to WR & TE to the right, zero read instant throws to the widest WR on the left. They even moved shorts over to the left for his double move....and he almost always throws (very quickly) to the primary receiver
maybe thats all blackmon can handle? maybe they dumbed down the playbook for him. His mind might not be able to adjust his routes on the fly yet. It often takes WRs a couple year to get hwo to be a WR in the NFLIn Blackmon's defense, I noticed last night that on a lot of plays, he just runs a quick out from the slot position. I saw this over and over and over again. And Gabbert basically never looked his way. Gabbert is so afraid to get hit, and he almost always throws (very quickly) to the primary receiver, and I don't think that's Blackmon on many plays. So while you can say that Gabbert is completing passes to other WRs, so it's not his fault, I would say that his incompetence when it comes to scanning the field is hurting Blackmon.
Not saying Blackmon hasn't been disappointing too, but I do think a lot of it falls on how they're using Blackmon and on Gabbert's lack of ability.
Now, of course you can argue that if Blackmon was doing better, they would feature him more in the offense and he would get more looks from Gabbert. But I have no idea how Mularkey makes those decisions or what all goes into that.
Shorts had two catches last season and looked totally lost at times. Blackmon will get his chances, it is up to him what he does with them.maybe thats all blackmon can handle? maybe they dumbed down the playbook for him.
