So how long before Kellen Clemens starts over Chad Pennington? (1 Viewer)

Living in upstate NY I get to see almost all Jet games....I know Penny is winner...but seriously this guy only can throw about 20 yards down the field accurately...

How bad of a start would the Jets need to have for Mangini to put kellen in?

I just see the Jets being a better team with Mr. Clemens at the helm throwing to Mr. Coles and Mr. Cotchery...."C3"

The Jets offense is read and react and takes a lot of intelligence to run which suits Pennington perfectly. Kellen will take over when he can read defenses and react as well as Penny can. It definitely won't be this year but perhaps next years training camp there may be a battle.

Have you seen any encouraging reports on Clemens in practice? I haven't.

This is Chads 1st year in forever not rehabbing, and/or learning a new offense - He actually got to work out this offseason and study his offense.

He's got an emerging OL, a RB and some WR options plus what seems like a real good and innovative OC..... Potentially it could be Chads best year.

It would take a complete disaster for Chad to sit.

But, hopefully Clemens gets a lot of preseason action and some game time so they get a feel for what he can do and if he can do it.

By most accounts, Clemens isn't ready yet. Barring injury or a less-than-inspriring season by Chad, as Banger mentioned, he'll likely have a shot make a run at the job.

2007 its Chad's team

Depending on how he finishes the year it may be an open competition in 2008 - if the Jets keep winning Chad will keep the job. Remember the Jets kept Chad on the bench 3.5 season before giving him the nod and he was a 1st rd pick. Much less of an investmentin Kellen. He only gets a shot in 2008 if Chad faulters or team loses. Of course the shoulder is always a concern so he could take over sooner via injury.

Everything I read says this is Chad's team. Thing is, from what I understand, Clemens' arm isn't that much stronger than Penny's - in other words, he'll fit the exact same style of offence Chad does but without the experiance.

As long as Pennington is healthy, this team is his -- Clemens is at least a year or two away, minimum, barring injury.

2009 fully.
concur.Clemens has 2 more seasons of clipboard toting ahead of him.
Yep. Pennington is good enough to go all the way. No reason to trade him unless a contract problem comes up. The only way he gets benched for the next 4 years is if he gets hurt, which is likely unless he's changed the way he falls (never ever stick you arm out to break a fall).
