I mean its not like its going to matter where the game is played since the Broncos don't have a professional quarterback but still... This happens every year, its pretty dumb when you think about it.

Actually, it's not. Win your division. Pretty simple actually.

I agree, it's stupid. The top two teams should get a bye, and then the four other playoff teams should be reseeded.

NBA lets the best record have homecourt advantage regardless of seed for the series the NFL should do the same thing

Sure but do you not think it would be more fair to re-seed the 3-6 seeds based on record? These craptastic divisions where no one can even break 8-8 don't deserve to be hosting playoff games.

I think its good for the NFL because it means every region of the country has 2 home playoff games. I believe that is important to keep interest high everywhere. Last year, Seattle and Kansas City got home playoff games. This year San Francisco and Denver get them.

Its better than a situation where most of the playoff games are being played on the east coast, as the west coast becomes an afterthought and, just maybe, the sport begins to lose interest outside of the Atlantic.

It's always good to get the excuses out of the way early.
I don't care who wins the game.
Sure you do. Or you wouldn't have started a topic.#justanotherhater
Cool hashtag! I will never understand people using hashtags on message boards. And no, I genuinely don't care who wins this particular game. I don't like either team, I am sick of the Steelers but on the other hand I would love to watch the Tebow humilation tour continue for another week.Have you considered maybe I started the topic because I care about the home field issue and not who wins the particular game?

You should start a thread about that too. #stuffihate
Stuff you hate is people who don't understand others using something unique to twitter on other platforms? There's actually a purpose for it on twitter because you can search based on it. It looks ridiculous on a message board.

Well if the AFC Division Winner gets the home game, seems like the Stillers should be traveling to Detroit.

4-0, outscored KC, Denver, Oakland and San Diego 159-50.

Pretty much the key to the most successful Lions season in sixteen years.

Huh. I just typed #stuffihate in that little white search box in the upper right corner and it took me to this post.

This. Gives each division run more importance...see parity. It does blow for teams like steelers, but there is a method to the madness.

my wife and I will be flying from Charlotte to Denver for this game. I wish the Broncos had qualified for it under better circumstances, but I'm pretty excited nonetheless. This will be our second game in the new stadium and her first playoff game.

The last time I was at a Bronco playoff game, Elway converted two 4th downs as part of a 87 yard drive for the winning FG vs Warren Moon and the Oilers. That was the first game I ever went to, and was easily the most exciting sporting event I've ever seen in person.

1/7/12: "But we were missing our #1 RB" :ptts:
I don't think Knowshon is the key to a Broncos victory though.
Welcome to the 2011 season Bob. I'll try my best to get you up to date.
Broncos coach John Fox revealed Monday that Knowshon Moreno will need surgery to repair a torn right ACL.He's done for the season. The reconstructive surgery will throw a real wrench into Moreno's long-term outlook. He's been a poor between-the-tackles runner as a pro, and the new Broncos' coaching staff had determined that Moreno only fit their offense as a situational third-down back. With the latest news, there's little doubt that Moreno is headed for bust status as the former No. 12 overall pick in the draft. Willis McGahee, if healthy, will continue to operate as the Broncos' primary back and perhaps even take on more passing-down work going forward. Lance Ball is the No. 2. Nov 14 - 2:38 PM
Knowshon Moreno - RB - BroncosThe Denver Post expects Knowshon Moreno to remain in the third-down role for 2012.Willis McGahee is on a four-year contract and will be back next season as the starter. The Broncos coaching staff believes Moreno's skill-set is best suited to the passing-down role, as his best work comes after the catch and he lacks power between the tackles. His Dynasty value is in the tank two years after being selected 12th overall.Related: Willis McGaheeSource: Denver Post Nov 8 - 1:39 PM
Knowshon Moreno - RB - BroncosKnowshon Moreno didn't record a carry, but caught three passes for 40 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.Moreno has been completely shut out of the running game thanks to impressive play from Willis McGahee. But he salvaged his day with a pretty 28-yard screen pass from Tim Tebow that he took to the house. Moreno won't be a fantasy option barring a McGahee injury.Oct 9 - 7:43 PM
Knowshon Moreno - RB - BroncosKnowshon Moreno was active for Week 3, but didn't touch the football.Word out of Denver is that the Broncos kept Moreno active only because they had more injured players than teams can deactivate (seven). Therefore, Moreno was on the game-day roster and just didn't play. It's worth noting that Moreno did appear to play special teams; he was listed as having been in on the NFL.com Gamebook. Regardless, he won't be a fantasy option anytime soon with the Broncos apparently leaning toward Willis McGahee as the feature back.Sep 25 - 4:55 PM
Have a good season.-S

Sorry, running joke on the Lions message boards. We didn't win the NFC North, but we're definitely the best team in the AFC West!vrs. AFC West - 4 games over .500, +109 differential

vrs. rest of the leage - 6-6, -22 differential

When I see a 12-4 team traveling to play an 8-8 team in the wildcard round, I think of a team that failed to take care of business when it had to.

The Steelers defense let the Ravens drive 90 yards down Heinz Field on them with 2 minutes left in the game and gave up a winning TD.

They beat the Pats in Pittsburgh, so they know they can win a big game, but too often, this veteran team seems to fail to live up to expectations.

The "win 3 on the road to get to the SB" path has been overcome a few times since the Steelers did it back in SB XL.

This veteran team is going to need to get a player leader to emerge and spark a rally cry that keeps them going if they want to win their 7th. Something has me doubting them. They have the talent, experience, and depth to do it. Maybe Hines Ward's imminent departure (as that of other aging players) will get the guys fighting for one last moment of shared glory.

You win your division, you host a playoff game. I don't care if the Ravens and Steelers were both 14-0-2 and the Steelers lost the coin flip.

You knew the rules going into the season & I don't think it should be changed.

Don't like it? Move your team so you can play in the crappy division.

This comes up every year. Like one person said earlier, The Saints traveled to Seattle (7-9) last year and lost. The Steelers will have their hands full with the Broncos in Denver. I think it's great.

:goodposting: Pretty simple. Winning your division is important.

Steeler fans are always funny.
Indeed we are  :towelwave: THE THEORY OF RISING EXPECTATIONS

The better things are, the worse they feel: THE THEORY OF RISING EXPECTATIONS

Revolutions start not when conditions are at their worst, but only after they have begun to improve, reforms have been instituted, leadership has developed, and the populace has come to have a new vision of what might be.

Rising expectations fuel the fire of revolution and change because it creates a discrepancy between what people have and what they now see is possible to have.

Psychotherapy works the same way. Successful therapy leads not to satisfaction but to new and different feelings of discontent. As people solve lower-order problems that brought them to therapy, instead of becoming contented they become discontented about higher-order issues.

The motivation for continuing change and growth comes from the development of higher-quality discontent, then moving on to the solution of more important problems.

Maslow called them "grumbles": Low-order grumbles are deficiency needs: "It's too hot in here." High-order grumbles are "We need better safety standards." In a very healthy organization there are "metagrumbles": complaints having to do with needs for self-actualization. "I don't feel that my talents are being fully utilized."

For managers: Improvement does not bring contentment, but its opposite. The way to judge your effectiveness is to assess the quality of discontent you engender.

The paradox of rising expectations: in countries making their way toward democratic change there are the most troublesome demands from the population. In China the Tiananmen Square protests erupted after the country's leaders had done more to open China to the world than perhaps any other rulers in the nation's history. They had doubled the wealth of China in a decade, and instututed all manner of quasi-democratic and capitalistic reforms. When they got angry, protesting, thankless students in return, they resorted to the massive repression for which their backgrounds had well-prepared them.

The paradox of rising expectations: good marriages that reflect what most people would want in a marriage are more likely to fail than bad ones.

We want for ourselves not what we are missing, but more of what we already have.

Our absorbtion with what we do well may blind us to what will enable us to do even better.

No Mendenhall and Ben hopping around on one leg. The Steelers just put up 13 on the Browns, 3 on the 9ers and 14 on the Browns - those are the last 3 games under Ben. Ben hasn't thrown a TD pass in 4 weeks.

At Denver. Vs Tebow. Playoff frenzied crowd.

Meh, the Steelers traveled 13,806 miles during the regular season, half of what the 49ers, Seahawks, and Chargers did. I think they'll be fine...

I don't think anyone is really too upset about the quirk of a 12-4 team visiting an 8-8 team. But it is at least worth discussing.

First, this doesn't happen 'every year'. That is simply not true. This isn't some massive problem, that screws up the balance of pwer in the playoffs every single year, and something must be done!! It happens every once in a while, and will happen again.

The only option, to ensure that the 'better' team doesn't get screwed in the playoffs, is to make the divisions a thing of the past. Don't have them, and seed the teams 1-6.

No more divisional rivalries. Let's get rid of those pesky, boring Jets/Patriots, Cowboys/Giants, Raiders/Chiefs, and Packer/Bear games that have been cluttering up the schedule. No more divisional races, crazy wild card chase with a myriad of playoff possibilities. No more Cinderella teams, everyone hates those stories anyway.

I am being a smart#ss here, but really, the price to have our current down-the-stretch drama, is that occasionally, a wild card team has to go on the road, and play a lesser team. Occasionally, a lesser team wins a division. Small price to pay.

As long as them's the rules, that's what we play under. It is what it is. It sucks, but until it changes, you sack up and play when & where you're supposed to.

There's no reason that you'd need to change any of that if homefield in the playoffs was determined by best overall record. Teams that win their division get a playoff spot but don't get an automatic home game.

Also, doesn't this mmean one of the Steelers safeties can't. Play/travel due to the elevation?
Ryan Clark, yes, I don't think he can play due to the altitude. But honestly, I don't think his absence will make much of a difference.
A couple less cheap shots, maybe...
