So who are the Bucs going to draft at QB? (1 Viewer)

:fishing:Griese is still around, isn't he?Rattay? The Redskin D is pretty damn good, I wouldn't take Simms performance today to indicate a lack of ability.

I thought Simms looked pretty good today. They lost, but it was not really due to his play, IMO.

Culter, Jacobs, or maybe even Vick???
Sorry, I dont think Simms is the question mark in this offense. It's the O-line thats suspect to me and I wont be surprised if they go after a OT with their first pick, certainly a guard if he falls to them in round 2 or 3 and ultimately a WR will be drafted. Looks like the Defense will remain intact.

There is a great article in the current Sporting News about the state of NFL QBs. Simms is a better option than anything they'll get in this year's draft.

If Simms is not the guy, then Griese has shown that he can run Gruden's offense. Though Simms seems to get more hype, I like Griese running that offense better anyway. But, in Simms defense, if you watched the game, he played OK...maybe even pretty well.He was incredibly accurate which is important in Gruden's dink and dunk going 25 of 38. He also looked good going downfield. His WR dropped the game tying TD. He ran for a TD, and one of his TD's was a tip. Not that that does not make it at least partially his fault because he had a problem with balls getting tipped at the line, but once a ball is tipped it's really a matter of luck if it falls incomplete or is picked. His play overall has been at least realiable. He needs to improve in the TD ratio, but in his defense, the Buc's only had Galloway this year as a receiving threat. They need Clayton back healthy and that will make life easier for the QB.If the Buc's go with him all year next year, he could be a great sleeper steal very late pick if he continues to improve. He's only had 12 starts in his career. His experience is equal only to a rookie QB.

IMO, its Simms job to lose next year. He has looked pretty solid since he took over mid-season, and he has nowhere to go but up.Simms was clutch today - Shepard dropped that sure TD - not Simms fault.

Just got back from the game, Simms ain't the problem. Both of those INT's were tipped. I thought he made good decisions, it just wasn't our day. We were no doubt the best team on the field. I hope those jerk off Skins fans freeze their asses of in an exciteing 7-3 loss in Chicago.ps Joe Gibbs= Luckiest S.O.B. in the NFL

Just got back from the game
It took you almost 3 hours to get back from the game??
Just got on the computer, got back about an hour ago. Should have left early, every time I do they end up winning. We stayed for the last INT, and got stuck in the traffic :(

 I thought Simms looked pretty good today and he steadily improved throughout the season. I think he most certainly is the answer and can be a pretty good QB in the NFL from here on out. Its funny I was thinking about starting a thread about being pretty impressed with Simms' progress this year.

I have a serious question for you, not trying to rip you or your fans, but we were talking about this while watching the game.I think it was in the first half, the Bucs had driven down inside the 10 I think. As Simms walks up to the line of scrimmage he's trying to hush the crowd with the pattented arm-wave-palms-down. Then the whole O-line is doing it in an attempt to shut the crowd up.

Was their that many Skins fan in the stadium? Or were the Bucs fans too excited to quiet down for thier offense?

Again, this is a serious question, I'm not trying to rip you or your fans.

ETA: I think Simms played a hell of a game. I seriously doubt you guys draft a QB on Day 1.

I was trying to get people to shut up too. Particullarly this one drunk blonde bimbo who had no idea what was going on. And, there were alot of skins fans as well. I think by them cheering, combined with the stupid fans that hear cheering so they cheer not realizing what is actually going on

Thanks for the reply. We have the same problem in Baltimore. As anemic as our offense is, any time something good happens everyone freaks out and are unable to calm themselves even as they approach the LOS. Pisses me off.

Wait, you've actually left early before and wish you had today???LOL....and you guys were arguing with me that the Bucs fans weren't bandwagonners.

I bet you never left early from a game, right  I left the Atl game early because i had a prior commitment for Christmas eve.

Who knew Matt Leinart was a Bucs fan?

Just to put it out there, I thought after watching preseason games in '03 that Simms would be the best QB in that draft class. After 3 years, I'm not so sure about Palmer, but I believe Simms is as good as Leftwich or better. Both O lines have some problems, and both have old declining stud WRs. J.Smith was just horrible last nite. Given equal circumstances, I'd have to say they looked just about equal and definately better than the next tier of talent to come out of that class. Much like his father, I believe Simms will be a very good and very productive QB in this league for a long time, but will never be compared to the Mannings/Brady/Palmer such as Phil's Marino/Montana/Elway respectively.

Agreed. I was impressed with Simms. He made some mistakes, but he looked in control of the offense to me & didn't appear nervous at all (I'm a Ravens fan, so I know what a jittery QB looks like). I think that team can definitely win with him. Who knows? - if that WR squeezes the ball just a little tighter in the end zone, Simms might be the toast of Tampa this a.m.

Wait, the tipped INT's aren't his fault? He had a ton of passes tipped at the line of scrimmage. It's his job to get it over the dline. It wasn't like these were tipped by linebackers in coverage or even blitzing lbs.I find it laughable that "those INTs weren't his fault"

I was at the game and here is what I saw. After the two early turnovers by the Buc's offense that resulted in 14 Redskin points,Simms looked tentative for most of the 1st half.It looked like he didn't want to make another mistake by checking off and not going downfield.I counted a couple of times in the 1st half when Simms had Alex Smith(Twice) open on deep seam routes down the middle and Galloway on a deep post.Simms normally would opt for these throws but looked hesitant after the early turnovers by the Buc's offense.....Alot of credit should go to the Redskins defense who were all over the field and played a solid game.Simms will be the starter in 2006 as he really has progressed well this year.Remember this was his 1st taste of playoff football which is quite different from playing NO in week 17.Hopefully he will learn from the experience and be much better next year........

Culter, Jacobs, or maybe even Vick???
Your kidding right?

Seriously, he was the ONLY reason they were still in it offensively. He threw some seriously sweet passes, and the Shepard drop is probably the best throw of the day by any QB... including the Patriots game. Unfortunately it was to some shmuck named Shepard.

I hate when people just blurt statements out that just completely make them ignorant. Simms played a great game against one of the top defenses in the league. The dropped pass was NOT his fault so if you want stats... he was over 75% completion, 230+ yards a TD and 2 INT's which would never have been if they weren't tipped.

Great numbers for a kid in his 13th start.

Please just post about things you MIGHT know about because you clearly have not a clue in regards to Simms and his performance.

I have to agree. He made a good read, and was throwing to an open receiver, but the ball was tipped. It wasn't so much a bad play by Simms as much as a heads up play by the Redskins D line. But those INT's were his fault. But its not something you can point and say, wow what a poor decision, its more like "good decision with a great Defensive play. "

IMO.

Watching the game two things stuck in my mind about Simms.A lot of those passed were low, and he did not adjust after having a bunch of them knocked down. HmmmmmI remember at least twice he left the field smiling after something bad had happened. Isn't that what people hate about Aaron Brooks?A third observation is that TB really, really needs Clayton back in 2004 form.

I'm not a huge Simms fan, but their aren't many better options this offseason. (Brooks? No. Brees? Not at the price. Rivers? See Brees. Schaub? See Brees). The one guy that will be a hot commodity this offseason will be Patrick Ramsey (as Gibbs has already shown he's got no tolerance for the guy & Campbell's their QB of the future). I'm not sold he's any better than what the Bucs got. Between Simms, Griese, Rattay, they aren't going to find better QB's at an obtainable price. As far a QB depth quality, the Bucs may have the best in the league. They're looking at guys like Harrington (who's no better than any of the 3), Garcia, and the like unexciting veterans that were available last offseason. And the Bucs already discarded this year's veteran surprise Brad Johnson.

Maybe the Bucs can do a sign and trade to the Giants. They could use a new QB a lot more than the Bucs. Simms played fine. He did what was asked and got no help from his receivers or running game. Ditto Leftwich.Eli is just plain choking...and his mechanics are a blatant mess.
