Has-been punter
saw the infomertial a few weeks ago.

Bought one as a stocking stuffer for the wife, and have used it a few times.

Seriously, the Red Bull tastes like Red Bull, and @ $4.99 per bottle of concentrate which makes like 20 or so cans, well pays for itself there alone.

My family loves Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke. I bought both flavors and my wife can tell a small difference, but enjoyed them both.

The good, is that there's no high fructose corn syrup or caffeine in both those flavors.

Total bill was about $170 for the system, extra bottles, extra C02 cannister and flavor bottles. Will definitley pay for itself over time, especially if I keep going through teh Red Bull like I have been.

Just wondering if anyone else bought one over the holidays.

Now I'm off to pull the Rib Roast off the smoker and enjoy it in time to watch McCoy and DJax lead me to fantasy championship #2 for the year.

When I was doing the calculations, I thought it only made sense if you filled up the CO2 tanks yourself. Otherwise, you were breaking mostly even most of the time.

I do computer work for a major retail company and we just had Sodastream do a demo.Going in I was skeptical, but after taste testing the coke, diet coke and Energy Drink...I was impressed. The cool part of the energy drink was that you can add a little bit of flavor (say orange) to you mix and come up with an orange redbull.I know Coke and Pepsi are HUGE, but I would have to imagine that this makes them slightly nervous.

They say that the recipe for Sprite is lemon and lime, but I tried to make it at home, there’s more to it than that. ‘Hey, you want some more homemade Sprite, man?’ . . . ‘Not until you figure out what the #### else is in it!’

Still use it just about everyday.

I don't mind giving the kids the "sprite" formula anymore now.

My wife loves the Red Bull flavor.

Havent thought about mixing flavors yet, as I am off of sodas for a little while.

Definitely want to try and make a flavored type of tonic water soon though.

Hopefully if this thing grows, some new flavors will follow.

The duo that was just here said that they are coming out with a line of natural sodas...all cane syrup sweetened.

No date, although I saw something on their website that there are 4 natural flavors available...including "sprite".

I may get one just for my desk.

Bought one for my gf for Christmas, we haven't used it yet but we will....glad to hear the positive review.

BTW...I may post in this topic a lot today...in addition to my morning 16oz Rockstar and 8oz of Sodastream Energy drink, Breville was also here today and I am currently enjoying an espresso from their Barista Station Espresso Maker.

ping ping ping...ricochet rabbit

Does the Redbull flavor give you energy, or does it just taste like RedBull?
I asked that. It gets most of it's energy from B-12.It has about the same amount of caffeine (according to them) as a coke.Redbull has a lot of that Taurine and Guarana in it.The claim by SS is that the energy is more mellow. Not a "jolt and crash" that you'd get from a RedBull or Rockstar.

Whats up with the ''Don't use after 2013'' on the bottles?
I think it's due to the fact that they are special bottles that are able to withstand the pressure put on them over a certain amount of time.
The are special plastic bottles that have leeching protection (I forget what it is) but that after a long time (2 years I think), it's healthier to get rid of the bottles. In theory, you should be able to use any glass container or whatever to store this stuff.

What if you like flat coke? Can you just go without the CO2?
I am starting to sound like a SS sales/marketing guy.You can adjust the carbonation. The typical carbonation is 3 pumps from the SS machine. You can alter to your own preference.

I got one for Christmas. You can exchange the CO2 cylinders and not pay for new ones at Bed Bath and Beyond. New cylinders are $30 and exchange is around $15. You can find the syrups in BBB, Sears, Macys and other stores. I've tried orange, diet orange, fountain mist (mountain dew), diet fountain mist, root beer, diet root beer, cola, diet cola, and the dr pepper knock off. I've also tried the MyWater orange.

They were all very good except the cola's. The cola's were OK but for me don't compare to coke or pepsi. For cola I usually drink coke zero. SS has a knock off of coke zero but I haven't found it in the store yet - I may have to order from the web site. Has anyone tried the SS coke zero?

Just got it yesterday. Tried out the Dr. Pepper knock off, Dr. Pete. Not bad. I think I still need a little work with my mixing skills. I didn't put in enough carbonation (only used 3 buzzes worth...shoulda used 5)The thing that was impressive is that it held the carbonation from yesterday afternoon to this morning really well. Almost zero loss of bubbles.

We have 2 of these. The 2 happened by accident, but I have on at work at one at home.

Don't like any of the flavor mixes, but I'll make a #### ton of vodka sodas or just drink the carbonated water plain, or squeeze in 1/2 a pice of fruit.

There is another thread in here where some nerd ran all the numbers and found that it may actually be cheaper to buy like 4 gallons of mango juice by bulk at Costco and buy cases of soda water in plastic bottles. I like the convenience and lack of waste.

I need to go get my bottles refilled. This is a good reminder.

I just got a Sodastream yesterday and I gotta be honest. I was a little disappointed. I thought the syrups, even the regular (non diet) syrups, had an artificial aftertaste to them. Does anyone else notice that?

The first flavor I tried was Cherry Cola and I thought it was terrible and I got really worried that I just wasted a lot of $. Then I tried the Cola and thought it was pretty good. I made some Ginger Ale, and Diet Sprite too. Everything (but the Cherry Cola) was 'pretty good' but I didn't think anything was 'great'. And I still think there is a little bit of artifical aftertaste.

I was thinking of trying a few things to improve and wanted to ask if you think this will help. I read that it is important to have cold water. I got water from my fridge dispenser. It was cold, but it wasn't as cold as water sitting in the fridge overnight. I was thinking of trying letting the water sit in the fridge overnight to get it colder. Do you think that will make much improvement? I shot 3 bubble squirts and thought it was a little flat, so I started squirting 6 and it still doesn't seem as fizzy as store bought. Does the water hold the fizz better if it's cold?

I was also thinking of trying a water filter. I don't have a Brita or a Pur water filter or anything like that. My local water isn't that great either. When I drink it by itself I can taste chlorination. Do you think filtering the water first will help?

[/QUOTE]Look at the lime in this Gin & tonic, look how it floats. Thats good to know. Next time I'm on a boat and it capsizes, I will reach for a lime. I'll be water-skiing without a life preserver on, and people will be like, what the hell? And I will pull out a lime. I'm saved by the buoyancy of citrus!!!

Well, I stuck with the sodastream, and I definitely love it now. Since my first update I bought a faucet mounted water filter. I actually got a pretty cool Dupont filter at Walmart. It had a counter on it that showed how many gallons it had filtered so you know when it is time to change it. It also had a 4 stage filter (more then Brita or Pur) and refills are readily available at Walmart. I started filling the bottles with filtered water, then letting them sit in the fridge over night to get cold. I don't think you NEED a water filter for this... it just depends on your local water. I can taste something in my faucet water, and I think this filter made a difference. I've pretty much settled on about 4 or 5 'squirts' of bubbles. I don't think 3 is enough. So I told you about Cherry Coke. Even after getting filtered water and making it cold, the Cherry Coke was still bad. I really like cherry coke and cherry pepsi off the shelf, so I don't know what the deal is. I think they just go it all wrong. Anyway, I decided to just pour out the Cherry Coke and move on, and I am glad I did.

I got one of those 12 flavor sampler packs with my unit. I tried the following flavors:

Pete's Choice: meh... an OK verson of Dr. Pepper but I don't like Dr. P that much anyway

Fountain Mist (reg and diet): Mountain Dew Copy. Awesome flavor very close to OG. I doubt they have as much caffeene but they are good

Lemon-Lime (reg and diet): Sprite copy... both taste just like original to me

Orange: Awesome flavor. Pretty much all orange soda tastes about the same to me. This one fits in

Diet Cola: I do not drink Diet Cola hardly at all. It was in the sample pack and it was surprisingly good. It seemed to be a bit stronger cola taste, and less sweet

Diet Root Beer: I thought this flavor was awesome. Very good root beer flavor, again not as sweet (similar to diet cola). I am not a big root beer drinkier, but I might get this again.

Diet Cranberry Raspberry: Surprisingly good. Maybe not good enough that I would get it again. I might mix it up and get one for variety every now and then. Taste is very crisp and refressing. A 'light' soda. I liked it.

Diet Pink Grapefruit: This sounded horrible to me, but it was in my sampler so I gave it a try. It was tolerable which was surprising to me. I drank it, it does the job a drink should do, but it wasn't that great. Much better then expected though.

The only place near me that exchanges cartridges is BB&B. Lukily for me, I work in an office complex connected to a BB&B. I did buy an exchange there. It was easy, and best thing is, the exchange is only $15. After trying all the samplers, I bought a full bottle of Orange and Diet Fountain Mist.

I think the thing I like best, which wasn't even a MAJOR consideration for me why buying, is that I don't have to carry 12 packs of soda from the grocery store. I never realize how much I dislike that until I didn't have to do it. Overall I really like the Sodastream. I think it will save $ in the long run, but I don't think it will save that much $. I guess I wouldn't do it JUST for the money. I know it will save a lot of aggrivation and that is much worth it to me. It is also much healthier from what I can tell. On their regular soda, they just use a regular sugar / splenda mix which makes the calorie count a lot lower vs. regular soda. I wanna say 120 cal in regular vs. 65 cal for a sodastream.

My wife recently bought one, I have to admit I was both skeptical and a little against it - running the numbers it seemed like we who come out a little ahead, UNLESS it caused us to drink more soda overall, in which case we would spend more using it.

Cost aside though, I have to say I really like it. Couple squirts of CO2 and you have pop. We've been considering trying carbonated Koolade so we don't have to purchase the syrups, but we might get one or two of our favorites. I liked the energy drink (didn't seem to have as big of a kick as Red Bull, but it tasted a bit better, IMO) and my wife likes the DrPepper close and the diet cola.

All in all, it looks like a decent investment. Depends on how it holds up, etc., but so far, I've enjoyed it.

The Keurig is a great machine, and hard to screw up. There seems to be a formula in play here with the Sodastream which I got this week.

I have been starting out with ice cold water...Check.

Do you put the syrup in before or after the CO2? Put it in before and shake it up?

Do you hold down the CO2 button until it stops, or hold it for a split second squirt? I've made 4 liters, and so far it seems I only got one right. I did the Diet Fountain Mist yesterday with 5 sprays of CO2 and it was fizzy and awesome. I did 5 sprays today with the Diet Dr. Pete and it was flat. What gives?

I hold it down until it makes the sound. Then give two or three more little pushes. I dont add the syrup (I just use it for soda water) so maybe it needs to be more carbonated in the first place.

It seems to me that regular sodas requre a little extra fizz compared to diet. Also, I think Dr. Pete's just never really got that fizzy for me. It could be that specific flavor.Directions say DO NOT add syrup before you squirt. When I give the water the squirts, I hold the button down until i hear a loud buzzing noise. I repeat that, and hold down the button until I hear a buzzing noise 2 or 3 more times. I basically use 3 or 4 squirts total, depending on how fizzy I want the drink to be. I might use 4 in regular sodas, and 3 on diet.It does take time to get it right, but once you get a system dialed in, it works great. I have 4 litre bottles. I keep 2 cold in the fridge with just water, and 2 filled with soda. I just rotate them, and it works out great.

Sodastream just released soda mixes that are all naturally sweetened. They also have a cola flavor that is sweetened with cane sugar. I tried the cane sugar sweetened cola and I could tell a difference. I think it is really good, like the mexican coke you can get in bottles.

The only problem is it is a lot more expensive. It is basically 4 times as expensive. A bottle of the natural stuff is around $10 while a bottle of the normal (sugar / splenda sweetened) stuff is $5. On top of that, the naturally sweetened cola bottle makes half the number of servings. It is definitely more expensive... I don't know if I will continue to get it because of that... but it is definitely worth a try.

They have other naturally sweetened flavors like Ginger Ale and I think Root Beer. Then they have odd flavors like orange / pineapple / mango. And Pear / black cherry. I might give one of them a try to just for something different.

Bump. Picked up one of these last week. Thing is awesome. What concerned me like a year ago when I heard about this was whether it would just end up being a novelty or have staying power. Judging by the responses in this thread and other places, it looks like it's gonna stay around. We've tried the diet cola, dr. pete, root beer, orange, and energy/diet energy drinks, and all are very good. Highly recommended.

Only the thing I made the fiance register for. Was very happy we got it. Have a BBB gift card that's going to get me more tasty drinks.

How many liters do people get from 1 CO2 cartridge??

So, the wife and I were looking at this. She likes the Lipton green tea you buy in bottles but does not like the carbonated flavors. Can you use this without carbonating them?

The whole purpose of this machine is to carbonate water. It would serve no purpose for an uncarbonated beverage. I've found it odd because they offer flavors like country time lemonade but I've never had a carbonated lemonade so I wonder what the purpose is. Anyone tried that or the crystal light flavors with the Sodastream?

I was wondering the same thing. Carbonated lemonade or crystal light just doesn't sound all that good, that is why I was wondering.

Got one of these for Christmas, is anyone still using theirs?

Haven't tried that many flavors, but foresee going mostly for flavors that I tend to buy store brand. And the non-caffeinated flavors that my kids are fond of.
