SodaStream (1 Viewer)

In a crappy coincidence I got sick the first weekend I used mine (gift a couple years ago) and havent used it since. Its in my garage collecting dust. I am a coca cola addict but the soda flavor never tasted quite right to me. Should probably clean it out and give it another shot....

This is why I think I will lean towards flavors that I am not specific to the brand. For cola, if possible, I only drink Coke; hugely dislike Pepsi and store brand. Will try the Mountain Mist, since I like Dew, but I am more OK with store brand flavors, and similar brands, like Sun Drop.

When I figure I can get a two liter for 99 cents, I drink more when I use the soda stream and BB&B charges 15 bucks for a CO2 canister, I think I come out behind by using the soda stream.

How much beverage do you get out of one canister?

Yea, I like to carbonate the #### out of my water, so I probably only get 3/4 of that. Never bothered to check all that closely though.

But sparkling water is like 12 bucks a case around here, when it is on sale.

I also use my SodaStream almost every day. Got a penguin machine as a gift a few years ago. Didn't even know what it was. Thought it only made soda pop or something. I really only just make carbonated water with it. Put a squeeze of lemon or splash of grapefruit juice in it. Love the thing. I've basically cut out soda pop out of my diet. For me, the carbonated water satisfies my craving for pop. After a few years now, I find all pop to be too sweet now, even diet. I also drink way more water with this. Never buy Perrier and San Pellegrino anymore either.

The $15 refill canisters are rated at 60L but most people probably get less than that.
Say 40 Liters maybe. And I can probably put away 4 of them on a Saturday when I'm home all day.

I don't need all that soda, diet or otherwise. But when 20X2L run 20 bucks plus deposit, the Soda stream isn't coming out ahead.

The guys that are making seltzer with a hint of citrus are doing it the right way and I'm thinking of following their lead.

I've never valued my Sodastream based on cost savings. With the exception of energy drink, which I don't drink but my GF does, I'd say cost is a wash. I value it based on:

Convenience I'm not hauling water home from the store in large quantities. Also, I keep liter bottles of water in my fridge and only when I want soda does it become a flavor. That allows me to keep 10-15 flavors of soda around instead of just a few as I used to do before. And, if I want a bottle of water I just grab one. So, a generic bottle of water now offers great flexibility in beverage choice.

Greenness - one little plastic bottle of syrup makes 12 Liters.

Space savings - We don't waste decent chunks of space in the cabinets for soda.

A couple of other thoughts:

- If you don't like the Sodastream flavors you can use any syrup with the device. You don't have to use theirs.

- The CO2 is generic. The canisters are not. If you have a good place to put the Sodastream with access from below you can use a generic CO2 canister, like the kind you'd use for a kegerator, with the sodastream appliance. You can purchase an adapter hose on the Internet that will convert the connector on those CO2 canisters to fit the sodastream appliance. Then CO2 becomes much less of a cost factor.

I got mine as a gift about a year ago and I pretty much thought it was a terrible idea. (pain to use and refill, crummy flavors, etc)

I am now a soda stream addict. I use the soda stream just about every day. I really didn't drink tons of soda but I do drink tons of things like crystal light and sugar free Kool aid. I figure the cost is about the same as buying soda but the thing for me is the convenience of having tons of flavors at the drop of a hat.

I am not a guy that drinks the same thing every day like a coke or mountain dew guy.

When I get home from work I can have some watermelon kool aid soda, Peach tea soda, grape, cola whatever I feel like. I have my little stash of soda stream flavors and various powders . I sure beats the heck out of mixing up a pitcher of fruit punch and then having it sit around half drunk for a week, and the carbonation makes most drinks better.

You have to try out a ton of flavors to find the ones you like and what carbonates well, I am now a bartender.

I use mine every day but we only drink seltzer.
Drink it everyday? How much do you spend per month on whatever supplies you need?
it costs 10 bucks at bed bath and beyond with the $5 coupons. We buy 2 at a time. Lasts maybe 2 months. Way cheaper than buying 5 cases of 1 liter shoprite or vintage bottles. 2 liter bottles go flat before we finish them. This works perfectly
