Yahoo Pick'em contest.

4 players selected 14 games correctly this week. For ease of reading only the top 2 players will be listed (3 & 4 tiebreakers weren't close)

First Tiebreaker is Monday Night select the score for each team, not total points.

Player 1 picked Giants 27 Rams 16 (final is 28-16)

Player 2 picked Giants 27 Rams 17

2nd Tiebreaker is the Sunday Night game select the score for each team

Player 1 picked Atlanta 27 Eagles 23 (Falcons 35 Eagles 31)

Player 2 picked Eagles 27 Atlanta 23 (getting the game wrong in the process)

3rd Tiebreaker is most points scored for the week

Player 1 selected Detroit (scored 48)

Player 2 selected Houston (scored 23)

4th Tiebreaker is pick lowest points scored for the week

Player 1 selected Jacksonville (scored 3, Seattle scored 0)

Player 2 selected Atlanta (scored 35)

Who should win Shark Pool?

Yahoo has declared Player 2 the winner due to 27+17 = 44 and 28+16=44.

So basically you could choose 22-22 or 43-1 or any combination that equals 44.

You may want to read Yahoo's rules again. It is correct.

Weekly Ties

In any week where two or more players finish with the same number of points, here's the system that'll be used to break the tie:

1. Closest to the total points for Monday night's game.

I would like to change my vote since I was misinformed by the OP.

Then why are we selecting a score for each team instead of total points for the game? Not misleading at all.
For the later Tiebreaks. You've got no case for winning the tie.

:goodposting: Changed my vote. Sorry player 1 - rules is rules. Don't like them, then play somewhere else.

Then go ahead. Click "Delete my Vote" and revote for #2 - you know, that one that won according to Yahoo's actual rules.

I do find it funny that there were 14 votes for Player 1 before the actual rules were posted - since then all votes went to Player 2. There really should be no "dispute" - the rules and thus the results are clear.

I voted for Player 2 before I even saw the rules. I have run pools and participated in them both at the office and at Yahoo. The tie-breakers in all those pools were total points in the Monday night game (except for one year when I was using other things such as the rushing yards for Curtis Martin or passing yardage for Kurt Warner). Picking the score for each team is just a tie-breaker for the tie-breaker.

actually disagree. team 1 should win (based on the tiebreakers in listed order1.push2.push (assuming they both put 27, in one post above it seemed that one team put 28, in which case then team that picked 27 pts wins)3. team one wins as 16 is closer to 16 than 17?, but if they push on one then 2 should solve it?no need to go to add'l tiebreakers.

The question is not "Which player should win according to the Yahoo rules?"

The question is "Which player should win?"

The point of this thread is to reveal a flaw in the tiebreaking system.

Player 1 tiebreaker has chosen 27-16

Player 2 tiebreaker has chosen 27-17

The flaw is uncovered in this scenario. If Player 2 had 14 wins going into Monday Night, he could have chosen Rams 44 Giants 0 and still won the contest because he predicted the "total points" exactly.

Do you not see the flaw?

ptts dude. That's not a flaw. The tiebreaker is specifically defined as who can guess closest to the total points, not who can guess closest to each of the two teams' individual scores. The rule isn't flawed, you just misinterpreted it.

So you find Total points not a suitable tiebreaker?
Total points is fine as a tiebreaker, when it's presented as a single field to enter a total points number for the final score of the game. In this case you need to choose a score for each team, misrepresenting the tiebreaker.

No, you need to choose a score for each team for the purposes of the second tiebreaker. The rules are clear. Either you didn't read them, or read them but misunderstood them, but either way it's pretty much a classic case of :ptts: Live and learn.

I'll admit that without reading the rules, one could make false assumptions based on the entry input method. But once you read the rules, it's obvious that you need to enter the team scores for 2nd/3rd tiebreak, with the sum of those the 1st tiebreak.
