It kind of depends what you are into. Good arts and culture, and great food.  If you are into paintings of ######s, there is the Georgia O’Keefe stuff. 

Bandelier National Monument is nearby and a pretty cool place to explore with ancient cliff dwellings.

Los Alamos is close too, for more modern history.

you can also hit Coyote or Gallino for the local low-rider scene.

excellent place to chill or accept an invite from a local, even a nice, romantic long-weekend place, but not a great vacation spot for someone who has family happiness in their priorities, except maybe as a place you can ski that aint all about the skiing. canyons of Utah or Chihuahua much more noteworthy

I have family in the area. It's fun to visit but there isn't a ton of family things to do. Basically there is outstanding Mexican food and an endless amount of expensive art and some gorgeous homes. It's one of those weird places where you can't tell if the guy next to you is homeless or a millionaire.

trail riding up Pedernal is good. tubing down the Chaco River is good too.
