Hells nos to becoming vegetarian, and it doesn't make this guy
happy ...

A few years back my vegetarian wife showed me a PETA video narrated by Alec Baldwin called "Meet Your Meat" on how slaughterhouses are run and I gave up pigs and cows on the spot. Beyond the cruelty aspect there is the health concern about eating cows that stand shoulder to shoulder in their own poop, fed corn that is not natural to them, their carcasses sprayed with chemicals to "sanitize" the product. Since then I have seen other movies like "Food, Inc." and became even more concerned with the way small government types and corporate lobbyists have largely managed to eliminate government inspection, and people now eat 1000 cows ground together in a burger thus exponentially increasing the risk of ecoli.Almost all of the beef and pork we eat have already been sterilized. I don't imagine this process is going to take place overnight and that there will be a huge surplus of livestock. One simple question. What are you going to do with the animals that are left? They have no value as food, it will be inhuman to kill them or sterilize them and they need feed which costs a lot of money. I for one welcome our farm animal overlords!Ive never heard anyone claim a tofu dog tastes like a hot dog, or that one of those bean patties tastes like a hamburger. This is not like anything that's ever been produced before. Alton Brown said "Most impressive. It's more like meat than anything Ive ever seen that wasn't meat." Bill Gates said "I honestly couldnt tell it from real chicken."Seems like the same argument against tofu-dogs. The proponents of it will insist that it tastes just as good as a real hotdog, but its not even close.Obviously wont work unless the taste is the same/better. All indications are that it will be. Cant imagine any other argument against this.
They already have the chicken substitute down, they expect to have ground beef down in another year. As quality improves and prices come down, people will stop eating meat. Our grandkids will think we were savages for eating caged animals and idiots for destroying our bodies and the earth in the process.
Out of curiosity, do you still eat fish / seafood?A few years back my vegetarian wife showed me a PETA video narrated by Alec Baldwin called "Meet Your Meat" on how slaughterhouses are run and I gave up pigs and cows on the spot. More recently I ran across a video on how "cage free" chicken are raised in warehouses, bred too big to stand up, with scabs on their undersides from sitting in place essentially permanently. So I gave up chickens too.
The music artist Moby refers one argument for meat eating as the is/ought fantasy -- our ancestors did it so it is natural for us. But you could make the same argument for slavery or treating women as chattel.
The pigs and cows I do not miss at all. Chicken salad sandwiches I miss very much.
More specifically: oysters, clams, mussels, scallops. None of them have brains, so they suffer no more than tomatoes do. And the aquacultures they're raised in are more beneficial to the environment than tomato farms are.Out of curiosity, do you still eat fish / seafood?
For many if the reasons you mentioned about a month ago I swore off all meat except for the true free range venison that I personally harvest and process. No dairy. My fresh veg intake has increased dramatically. My wife is a vegetarian so I'm thinking/hoping the 3 deer in the freezer should last me until hunting season begins in Sept. It's an exciting change but challenging when visiting with friends or going out. And it takes some planning for meals.A few years back my vegetarian wife showed me a PETA video narrated by Alec Baldwin called "Meet Your Meat" on how slaughterhouses are run and I gave up pigs and cows on the spot.
