To be fair to Merriman, the Pats put an offensive lineman on him the whole game. that should have opened up things for other guys to make plays. Anytime your defense can hold the Pats to 21 points you should be happy. I think the Redzone offense is to blame and some of the offensive play calling in the redzone should be questioned.
I was surprised to not hear Merriman's name...even after Gaffney strolled into the endzone untouched and did a double thumb point to the back of his jersey.That Gaffrey guy is pretty good.
Matt Light owned him last year in the playoffs

The Chargers held the Patritos to three scores. The Chargers scored four times. You can't blame a defensive player if the Bolts have to settle for field-goals. The defense more than did its job.

Gotta agree that his performance wasn't the reason the Chargers lost.However, a self-appointed pass rush terror, needs to pressure the QB at some occasion during such a pivotal game. The fact that the Pats assigned an offensive lineman to block him can't be anything out of the ordinary for Merriman playing OLB in a 3-4. The lights sure weren't on yesterday at least! (Sry for the bad joke)That Cromartie kid and Quentin Jammer had very good games though. I thought Jammer had a reputation for not having sufficient ball skills. Didn't seem that way yesterday.

Funny how 2-3 years ago draftniks, among others, ridiculed Dallas (and Parcells) for taking DeMarcus Ware over Shawn Merriman in the draft.
Since then, Merriman has been suspended for steroids and declined while Ware has emerged as a premiere pass-rusher in the league and going to the Pro Bowl as Merriman did previously.
You have to wonder how much Wade Phillips leaving San Diego and coming to Dallas attributes to that, if at all. In the end, I'm certainly glad Dallas took Ware.

It's funny, but you can almost see a parallel beginning to develop between Brian Bosworth and Shawne Merriman.
After initially taking the league by storm, they fade fast and later become most remembered for being blown-up and put on their asses by running backs.
Bosworth by Bo Jackson, and Merriman by Maurice Jones-Drew.
I did say "almost", but it is funny.

Statistics lie. One of the reasons that Brady threw 3 picks is the pressure that Merriman and others brought.

not sure how you misinterpret a post about the lack of Merrimans "Big Plays" as criticising the performance of the entire Chargers defense.

A good dance for Gaffney after he scored would have been if he pointed right at Merriman then pretended to inject a needle into his posterior then flex. Fine be damned!!Merriman and Philips were collapsing the pocket all day and forcing quick throws. The Patriots adapted well, but that pressure led to three relatively easy picks. The defense played great and the offense couldn't get it done in the redzone. The latter not being all that surprising since they were missing their two biggest redzone targets. I can't really think of anyone who had a bad game.

I wish you could be as happy as I am in life right now, but it's clear that you are an irritable, bitter person. I realize now that to you, since I'm a Patriots fan, everything I say will be called "whining." If the Pats win tomorrow night, I'm going to be whining about how happy I am that they've won. I might even whine about how I feel Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time. Maybe I'll whine about what a joy this season has been to experience.Or would that be chest-thumping?Either way, if the Patriots pull off the greatest season in NFL history, me and my boys will be doing some whining and some chest-thumping. It will be a joyous occassion. 
I just hope that some day, you'll stop looking for things to complain about, lighten up a bit, and start to have a little more fun with life. You don't always have to look for confrontation. No one likes to be around a grouch.Good luck, my friend.

Every post by a Patriots fan on this board is classified as a whine. Its pretty funny. Boston fans in general and Pats fans specifically are the happiest fans in the world right now but many on this board insist that Pats fans are whiners. Ok, you are right, we have plenty to complain about.
