Sour grapes...bad coaching cost me $1500 (1 Viewer)

Down 10, 4th and 2 from the 22, 3:30 left, why wouldn't Oak kick the FG, instead get stuffed and turn it over on downs, GAME OVER??? I don't get it at all. I was in a season pool, I'm a dog player, that game cost me $1500...can someone give me a reason they didn't kick it??? I'm too dumb to figure this one out.

And if they kick the FG, San Diego kicks a FG, and you still lose.HTH.
Would've been a different game from there, we all know that...I'll take my shot covering with 3 minutes left and SD running the clock, the late FG was a muffed punt inside the 10 yd line. i just want to know logically why wouldn't you kick a FG down 10 with 3 minutes to go 4th and 2. MAKES NO SENSE, NONE. You get stuffed, GAME OVER.

You need a TD and a FG to win - the order doesn't matter. You might not get a better chance than 4th and 2 from 22 out on the 2nd possession assuming that you make that FG. Might as well try for the TD from there first.

That's wrong, you are correct that you need 2 scores, YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE ONE ON 4TH AND 2, end of discussion. Because if you don't make the 4th down, the game is over, YOU HAVE TO EXTEND THE GAME.....you said it yourself....YOU NEED TWO SCORES.

When teams have nothing to play for, it seems they are more willing to take these sorts of chances.

I would wager (no pun intended) that if it had been week 1 and the Raiders were still in the hunt they would not have taken this gamble (again no pun intended). But as it is, they did. These are things you come to expect in week 17 when people have zero to play for.

I understand, but it's still a close game late, might as well try to win it, no?

I think trying to win when you are no longer in the hunt in this situation is very different than trying to win when you are in the hunt. Late in the year far more teams are willing to go for it on 4th and longer than 1 than they did in weeks 1-8, and it seems they are usually more willing to try trick plays etc....and with Oakland it is even different because you have a QB of the future trying to get reps in at various situations. I think going for it on 4th and 2 is not necessarily the best move here, but I see the reasoning behind it and I believe they are still trying to "win". Seriously, if this were early in the year Kiffin would be getting reamed for this call. Week 17? Not so much.

I'm wrong, the NFL coaching staff the made the decision is wrong, and you are correct. Got it.Also, nobody cares. I'm out.

I agree... and actually, you need a TD and a FG to force overtime and have a 50% chance at winning. Two TDs could win the game in regulation, even if SD kicks a field goal in between.Too many teams look to make the decision that gives you the best chance of prolonging the game. You should make the decision that gives you the best chance of winning the game. I think Oakland made the right call.

It wasn't the right call......if you know football, and being on here I'm sure you do, it was a bad call. I KNOW I'M BITTER HAVING LOST, but it was a bad call.

If it's fourth-and-goal from the one-foot line, do you still kick the FG?
