Speed Dept....Cotchery in same League as Coles? (1 Viewer)

I remember hearing a few years back that Cotchery was a huge burner. Is he as fast as coles?
I'll let you in on a little trick. If you google the phrases "prospect profiles", "nfl.com", and the name of the guy you're interested in, you'll pull up the pre-draft analysis on that specific player (including his measurements and combine scores, although no wonderlics). Really, a fantastic little tool, although it's only available for the last several years (meaning nothing available on Coles).Still, if you enter into Google the following search string:

jerricho cotchery prospect profile nfl.com

The first link will take you to his prospect profile. His measurables are at the very bottom. Looks like Cotchery was timed at a 4.66 40-yard dash time, which is downright slow for a WR. Under his negatives, too, they talked about his lack of separation speed. Looks like Cotchery is probably in for a career as a possession receiver. As for how he compares to Coles... I don't know, but if I recall correctly, Coles is not that fast, either. Santana Moss was the burner, Coles was always a great possession guy who thrived with Pennington because his strength (routes) meshed with Pennington's strength (accuracy), and his weakness (speed) wasn't a problem because Pennington couldn't have taken advantage, anyway, with his big weakness (arm strength).

Coles is crazy fast. It hasn't really translated to him being a deep threat in the league, but he's very fast. SSOG is right about Cotchery though.

Hey SSOG, here's another little trick :D :google "laveranues coles 40 yard dash"--you'll see plenty of results, all indicating that he's been timed at sub-4.2 (which I don't really believe, but the guy is definitely a burner)

Also, one of the links:

Seriously, though, Cotchery's offseason strength-and-conditioning program at the Athletes' Performance Institute in Tempe, Ariz., has played a large role in the receiver's outstanding start to the season. Cotchery has 12 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns for the Jets (1-1), including six catches for 121 yards against New England.

Cotchery improved his 40-yard dash time to a "low 4.4'' seconds. The third-year pro said he was timed at 4.5 last season and was a "high 4.4'' prior to being a fourth-round pick out of North Carolina State in 2004.

He's a 4.2x guy, but that was with the stolen shoes. Without them he runs a 4.4x. :lmao: Given all of his injuries and he has put on some weight I'd guess he is no longer even a 4.3x guy. Probably not even 4.4x......but he sure knows how to get open. I wish they had a measure for 10 yards, because that tells you more about being able to get seperation. It's the guys that can get up and running full speed in the shortest time that most impress me. That is what Vick, Sanders, Bush, etc have. They are suddenly fast.

:bag:

Cotchery is not fast, but he caught everything Rivers threw to him in college. He seems to have playmaking ability without speed.

Thanks for the insider tip SSOG.

I'm just debating on whether to play Cotchery over Boldin. I simply need a TD out of my player.

And I GOTTA WIN....$600 league, and I'm dead in the middle...
