I know Matt Millen somewhat personally. He's not stupid and he was a valuable community volunteer when I knew him. He's still got some confidence.

As I’m watching the Edmonton/Vegas game, thought of Steve Smith, who had one of the most infamous gaffes in Stanley Cup playoff history back in 1986.

He was vindicated a year later when the Oilers won the Cup (again), but would have been an interesting story how he dealt with it all offseason and the subsequent season.

If I may re-shift the argument, I'm glad he devotes time to community projects. I am not casting personal aspersions. I also did not intone that he was stupid. He held numerous jobs after in broadcasting and is articulate and intelligent. But him commenting on any football personnel decision is questionable. Insofar as we don't—and shouldn't—blindly trust experts until they prove and maintain competence in their field, he seems to have miserably failed the "can do" portion of the program and he hasn't earned any leeway or benefit of the doubt.
