I never seem to hear this band discussed or see them show up on 80s playlists. A serious omission IMHO

Just jumped into this thread for the first time to see if you had spotlighted my pick for the next M-AD draft and had to comment on the Gurus.

I fell in love with I Want You Back and its video, but my neighborhood buddy who was a music freak and even spent a year at Vanderbilt and was a DJ at their radio station had discovered a handful of Australian bands (including Icehouse and INXS just before they hit in the U.S.) and introduced me to more of the Gurus' catalog. Mars Needs Guitars has some bangers as well. In 1988 or 89, they toured with The Bangles. Even though I was a Bangles fan, I got tickets to their show because of the Gurus. As fate would have it, we got caught in bad traffic and missed their set altogether.

I didn't get into the stuff they released after that and they fell off my radar until I started building my Spotify library. After adding my old favorites, I also found a catchy tune from an album released in 2010:

Burnt Orange (I can't get on Spotify on this computer so I had to hand copy the link, sorry if it Hipples)

FWIW, my pick remains untouched so far.
