Star Trek - Into Darkness (1 Viewer)

Looks great. Is the villain the guy who plays Sherlock in the BBC series?

ETA: Posted same time as jdoggy. Thanks for the answer!

Looks good. Can't wait. Hope he isn't Khan. There seems to be thoughts going back and forth all over the web on that. I like the Gary Mitchell angle. Similar to Khan in terms of super human type stuff, but not Khan so that the greatest Sci Fi movie of all time doesn't need to be tampered with.

I feel pretty confident that it's going to be Mitchell or something completely different and unknown. Going to Khan in the second film just never seemed like something Abrahms would do.

My guess:

From the episode "Whom Gods Destroy"

Fleet Captain Garth of Izar (Steve Ihnat), a famous starship captain and one of Kirk's personal heroes. Garth's crew had mutinied against him when he had gone insane, the result of injuries in a rescue mission. Aliens from Antos tried to teach Garth just enough shapeshifting abilities to heal said injuries; he taught himself complete shifting. Garth tried to attack Antos before his crew rebelled.

Agreed. All the interviews of Abrahms make me believe that he's a pretty sharp guy who gets it. I don't think he's going to mess with something that sacred to Trekkies.

Looks great. The full trailer is supposed to be coming out soon too, right? Maybe at The Hobbit?
I think this teaser trailer we see now is what is attached to the Hobbit.
The Hobbit is getting 9 minutes of footage from Star Trek Into Darkness.
This article makes it seem like the 9 minutes is only going to be on IMAX where as the regular trailer will be on the non IMAX showingshttp://www.etonline.com/dailyfirst/127805_First_Look_Star_Trek_Into_Darkness_Teaser/index.htmlIf true I am kind of glad I am not seeing the Hobbit in IMAX because I don't want that long a trailer. Too many possible spoilers.

Ok after reading some more, I have learned it is not going to be a 9 minute trailer. It is going to be the very first 9 minutes of the movie shown in these select theaters with The Hobbit in IMAX only.

I still can't find info on whether the non IMAX theaters will have the full trailer. I hope they do.

I can't wait for this. The trailer looks great. The scene of the ship (not Enterprise) crashing into the water and the scene of the ship (probably Enterprise) coming out of the water look phenomenal.

I still have no idea who the villain is; some parts of the trailer scream Kahn while other parts scream Mitchell.

Maybe JJ is fooling everyone and the villain winds up being Charlie X or Harry Mudd?

Thanks. One of those theaters is actually right down the street from me. That's a heck of a teaser to be left hanging on until next May, though.

The way they reset this series back to the original characters was brilliant. I am actually interested in a Star Trek movie for the first time in decades.

This. Never watched the series, I saw maybe one or two of the other movies, didnt care for them, but the reboot was awesome.

This just looks like a normal action thing like the avengers, rather than Star Trek.

And I don't think the wrath of khan is all that. Boom.

I have watched every episode of every series (some multiple times) and seen every movie multiple times and I also loved the reboot. The fact that they were able to please some old fans and some new ones is impressive. I loved all the in jokes they added for the long time fans while not making newer fans feel left out.

I don't think we can be friends anymore. <_<
Always felt a little too campy for me. I like it more today than when I was younger though.
Interesting, I always felt it was by far the least campy of any of the Trek movies outside of TMP which was extraordinarily dry.

I didn't say it wasn't the best one.

Paramount may be playing a game here but fwiwNew Star Trek 2 pic reveals the name of Cumberbatch's villain!

Paramount Pictures has finally thrown us a bone. The identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's Star Trek villain has been revealed. The studio's released a new photo that gives a name to the raven-haired baddie.Paramount captioned the photo with Cumberbatch listed as John Harrison. Who is he and what does he bring to the table? This could be a cover to throw fans off his true identity (i.e. Miranda Tate, The Dark Knight Rises). Fans have been screaming Khan since before filming began and they're not letting up. Harrison could also be Gary Mitchell, a character who has a connection to Kirk and Starfleet. Just check out that shirt! We smell a red herring.Harrison has the undivided attention of Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto). Judging by this photo, it looks like the good guys have the upper hand. But do they really? We all know what happened when Loki was captured in The Avengers. Plus, would the villain give in that easily? Something has to be up.Star Trek Into Darkness takes the Enterprise crew on another intergalactic adventure. This time they'll face a threat from inside their own organization. Kirk has a personal stake in the investigation and leads the charge to "a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction."

Sherlock fans will be happy to see Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain here.
:goodposting: Black F'n Dot! Love the new movies. Love Cumberbatch.I didn't really follow the original series or movies, can someone tell me about who Cumberbatch plays? If this has already been asked, please ignore me.

He plays the villian, name of which being kept uner wraps, at least until tomorrow when the full trailer is out and the 9 minute beginning is shown with The Hobbit (which Cumberbatch is also in).

Thanks. I knew he played the villian, I didn't know the name was being kept underwraps and thought perhaps the villian was iconic. I did know he is in The Hobbit, which is probably why Sherlock isn't filming again until March 2013. I love seeing Martin and Bennedict in more mainstream American movies but I wish they would get back to the show!

For the longest time the rumor was that he would play Khan but that died down a bit after the teaser came out.

Yeah, I posted this rumor yesterday. Some people feel that this may be just Paramount having some fun. The imdb page still does not have the official casting yet.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=670459&view=findpost&p=15105805
