Star Wars: Battlefront (1 Viewer)

Reviews seem to be pretty consistent with what I'm reading here - graphics are awesome, game is nothing special.

That being said, I'm still pretty excited. I missed out on the beta, so haven't gotten an opportunity to try it yet...My PS4 + Battlefront bundle should be here on Friday, can't wait. I hardly play anything outside of 2K/Madden, so even though the game may seem stale to some, it'll probably seem like the best thing evah to me. Because of this, I like what I'm reading about the ease of gameplay.

I wonder how much the "Nothing Special" criticism comes from the mega gamers that do nothing but game.

When I read that it's more "arcade style" I get kind of excited because I think that really means "actually playable by your average game player".

My biggest concern is the criticism that the maps are pretty boring and bland and contribute to gameplay where you're dying a ton because you can get shot from anywhere on the map just about all the time. And with huge maps that require lots of running to achieve objectives, that's a big problem.

While I thought the AT-AT Assault map was decent, I could see that criticism.

I ended up not getting it, since I have limited time and I'm playing NBA2K and COD right now. I'll probably still get it for Christmas though.

I still enjoy playing Battlefront on my ps2. I don't move around too much. I usually just camp out in a cannon, or use a roof top sniper for the entire game. Can I still do that in the new one? Thinking of grabbing a ps4.

I got it for my kid. It is exactly this by my assessment.

Gamer1: "I'm so pissed I bought this game!!! No matter how much I customize my controller it won't give me ANY ACTUAL force powers that I can use in my real life. I STILL have to LITERALLY go to the fridge myself to get a Code Red!!"

Gamer2: "Dude, you totally DESTROYED DICE!!!"

:hifive:

Modest reviews dont surprise me. Ive gamed year after year starting with Halo, then cod and mixing in a few games here and there. I cant wait for Red Dead Redemption!

I walked into best buy without my pre order receipt and walked out with my tail between my legs last night. I didnt have the credit card I purchased it with either. I shall return today.

I tried the beta version a month ago for 5 minutes and it was ok. At this point, xbox shooter games seem to be somewhat the same. I got burnt out from Halo and cod. Theres nothing wrong with that, but regular gamers should expect it because its really the same type of game from 2000 with different pictures. Battlefield was a cool alternative, but very in depth.

Im at the point where I dont game much anymore on xbox, I play clash of clans instead.

That said, im looking forward to enjoying the Star Wars theme for what it is and playing non competitively with my brother and a few friends.

Its a game, relax

May the force be with you

Ok, so my 6 year old got this from a friend as a birthday present. Is there a tutorial in the beginning or do you run out guns blazing.

Also, can you turn the other peoples voices off.

I didn't think I had a real weak stomach, but the graphics are so good the game made me queasy after about 20 minutes. :X Hopefully I get used to it, the game is pretty fun.

I spent about two hours playing this just now. What exactly are the complaints

I had a ton of fun

Much prefer this to Blops 3

Although I had zero clue what I was doing. Need to watch some videos

So this just basically a graphic update on the 2004 version? The videos looks great, true, but I'm wondering how it really plays.

How many maps are there?

I played on at least 4, maybe 5 last night

ETA: I only played in battles and Hero vs Hero stuff. Didnt do any other challenges including vehicles

I'm actually enjoying it so far. It's very accessible without much of a learning curve. Lots of fun and it has the feel of the older Battlefields as far as working together as a team is greatly beneficial.

The different game modes are pretty fun too. The objectives based modes are pretty good IMO.

The only thing that really frustrates me is that it's so difficult to play as a group. Why you can't squad up and go into a server as a group like any other FPS is beyond me.

Huge huge turnoff for me. When I play multiplayer FPS (Battlefield) this is a must.

I love the authentic sounds and the graphics are simply stunning. But the fact you can't squad up with friends is huge. It's why I did not buy the game......oh and Fallout 4 is insane fun which will give me 100's of hours of entertainment. EA ####ed up this game with no dedicated servers and allowing us to create factions/crews etc like the brilliant Battlefield 4.

Oh well.

I did not realize that. Is there a way they can fix this in an update. What is the point if you cant play with friends. Very odd

You would think they could on a server side update or major patch? I am not a techie so I have no idea. If they do I will pick the game up next year in the discount bin. Otherwise no thanks. It would be a waste of money.

Maybe they left it out on purpose and that will be the next money grab they go for somehow.

Was that something they changed in BF4? Because I know when it first came out, at least on PlayStation, squading up was basically impossible.

It is still possible to get join on friends once they're in a game and it does a good job of putting you on the same team, but games like Call of Duty and Hall really do a better job.

On my ps2 I still play Battlefront. I love how I can switch to different class of soldiers when I die. Does the new one have that? I'm $$ with sniper.

Been playing a bit of it and it's entertaining...although it's not as obsessive as Gears of War 2 or Modern Warfare 2 was to me. That might be because I'm older though....

The ship part is actually pretty fun....although I'd like to see an outer space map.

Dumb question as a guy who never played Halo, COD, Battlefield......

Can I just install it and feel safe letting my kids play? They are Lego and Skylander freaks, though I let my middle son (9) play God of War

I have no issues allowing my 6 year old to play this. He hasn't yet,but it was bought for him

Absolutely. It's as kid friendly as a FPS will be. My 5 year old likes flying around on the ship battles.....probably much to the dismay of his teammates.

I'm horrible with the ships. I avoid them now in multiplayer. It's a guarantee that I'll crash it within 10 seconds of getting in.

It's going to depend on the kid. If your 9 year old already plays God of War, this isn't going to be an issue. Depends on the youngest, how old, and what they've seen already.

I first got my older son into the original Battlefront a little early. He was five or six, and after playing it a couple of times, everything was a gun, and he wanted to shoot everything, etc etc. That was not the effect I was going for, so I pulled it and didn't let him play for a few more years.

On the other hand, our friends let their youngest play Halo when he was in kindergarten, and now in 1st grade he does not appear to be on the verge of turning into a serial killer. All kids are different and you just have to monitor them.

 for responsible parenting.

Thanks guys.

Now I just need to find a PS4 1tb deal with Star Wars.....
I don't think there's such a thing as that in the US. Only 500gb.
Yeah, looks like Amazon has a $349 bundle deal. Might jump on that.
I got that $349 bundle from walmart last week. Pretty solid deal IMO.
Just ordered it via Amazon for the kids.....and no tanking :)
:P

We need the mooning emoticon here.

This new battlefront is different. There aren't classes of troops to choose from. So no specific sniper, scout, or heavy trooper, etc. If you want to snipe, you need to unlock the 2 sniper rifle-type weapons. They are the pulse cannon, and the cycler rifle. But these 2 weapons are a side-arm weapon, like using a grenade. They don't come with a number of rounds/ammo like previous battlefronts. You shoot it with RB/LB, depending on where you equip it, then have to wait 15 seconds for the rifle to recharge before being able to shoot it again. I guess this was done to prevent constant sniping, users who just hang out in the back picking people off? This game definitely encourages close-to-medium gun encounters.

I was the guy sitting back sniping everyone. That's more my speed. I get dizzy playing call of duty up close. Do they have classes in that battlefield game?

wait, can you or cant you play with friends in this game
You can join on friends, you just can't create a group and then join as a group at once.
Yes you can. You need to navigate in the small sub menu at the top of the multiplayer screen. That's where you party up and pick your partner.
You can partner up, but that's it. So you can make sure you're attached to 1 person, but the other people in your party still need to join once they get the notice that someone in the party has entered a game. And the other guys aren't guaranteed to be on the same team. Trust me, I joined in on guys in my party and ended up on the opposing team 3 games in a row.

Well I played the Beta with a party of 5, we all play this game partied up and always on the same team. Your partner will show up as yellow, the rest of your party is green.Sounds like what you guys aren't doing is sending an invite to the entire party or people in your party aren't accepting the invite. It's not very user friendly to navigate but it's 100% there.

ETA: next time have one guy in the party start the game, everyone else should get a notice in the upper left corner saying that your party has joined a game, on Xbox you press Y and you'll accept the invite. The game won't automatically pull your entire party over like in COD.

Has anyone else had difficulty with their kids playing this game? I spent an hour trying to figure out how to get my son's account configured to play this game. He already plays Destiny and Halo online, so its confusing that he can't play Battlefront. He was able to go through the tutorial with his account, but had to play using my account online. After two calls with EA and quite a bit of online research, the "solution" I ended up with was changing his account profile to make him 18 years old - very far from ideal, but that seems to be the most commonly-recommended solution.
