Jub Jub is Selmas pet iguana in the SimpsonsEmpire remains the best film of the series by far in my opinion and the characters spent most of it separated but even though Jedi isn't on Empire's level there are parts of it I really enjoyed more, namely the scenes when the three characters are reunited. That's the hook of the series for me - those three characters. It's what drove the first film and what I love most about it. Knowing we'll never seem them together again is really depressing to me as a fan.Jub Jub.Surprised more fans aren't bothered by this. The last scene of Jedi was a huge celebration and the next thing you know Han is killed by his own son.One of my issues with the film is that as a huge fan of the first three films I really wanted to see everyone together again. With Han dead that means that won't happen so the fact there wasn't a single scene with them together in this film stinks even more for me personally.
He gets a half-percent of the gross forever. Not like he needed more money but gotta believe Ford's getting a nice chunk of the profits. Probably gonna need a brinks truck to pull up to his house at some point to drop it all off.$529 million. Jeebus.
Just read he got $34mil to reprise his role (Fisher got $1.5 mil)...Plus Another $13 mil or so from the gross. Not like he needed more money but gotta believe Ford's getting a nice chunk of the profits. Leia is the mother of every character. Star wars is part of the left wing agenda now. Hans not dead and someone's wife made and xwing pilot doll. Also I only made it halfway through the thread
Great movie...any compelling discussion I missed in page 15-25 or so
Doh.We already covered this.Expanding on the kiss from the original trilogy, and Rey's ability to quickly pick up the force, I'm going to say that she is Luke AND Leia's kid, which is why Han didn't know about her.
:galacticincest:Ben is Han and Leias kid
Finn is Lando and Leias kid
Rey is Luke and Leias kid
That was so ####### stupid.About R2 and why he woke up:
Abrams also explained why it was that R2 woke up at the end of the film, saying, "BB-8 comes up and says something to him, which is basically, Ive got this piece of a map, do you happen to have the rest? The idea was, R2 who has been all over the galaxy, is still in his coma, but he hears this. And it triggers something that would ultimately wake him up."

I saw it in 3D and it was bothering me for a while at the beginning. It made the scenes darker and just didn't add anything. Thankfully I got used to it after a while and it didn't detract from the enjoyment like I was fearing after the first few minutes.Anyone see it in 3D? I went Thursday night and saw it in 2D but thinking of going again with my 11yo. If so wondering if it's worth 3D.

Not generally a fan of 3D but I thought it was fairly well done for the IMAX version. Even though I wasn't in the middle of the theater the curved screen helped with the focal point. Because.... Bowcasters were much more powerful than standard blaster rifles. Can anyone please explain how Ren can stop a phaser mid air being fired at him. But can't stop or even deflect a bowcaster, that he was looking straight at? TIA
A custodian that was part of a landing force on a planet with one of the more powerful leaders of the first order? He was a custodian, his words not mine.Finn has been in training since birth to be a stormtrooper. I don't see why it's totally unbelievable for him to have some skill with a sword. plus, he got whooped by Kylo Ren.
I kind of thought that was part of the Star Wars comedy hour, and he said it to not get that involved or be counted on that heavily. Like if this doesn't work don't blame me, I just pick up the trash.A custodian that was part of a landing force on a planet with one of the more powerful leaders of the first order?HE called HIMSELF a custodian, but clearly he was more than that.He was a custodian, his words not mine.Finn has been in training since birth to be a stormtrooper. Catching up as I go and wanted to respond to a few points and give my thoughts.I'd bet Episode 8 ends with Luke vs Vader III and then Rey vs Vader. My mind keeps going towards, how will episode 9 end...Luke sacrificing himself to save a young family member (possibly Kylo or Rey) or Rey sacrificing herself to bring balance to the force (ala Matrix 3)...hopefully something else and the story continues to stay fresh and true to the originals at the same time. No chance I don't see any of the 5 coming out- I'm rooting for them to be good!
Episode 9 will be Luke vs Snoke and Rey vs a very corrupted and powerful Ren.
I'm not sure who Ren fights in episode 8. He has no good matchups. Maybe Vader becomes very unstable once resurrected and the finale is Ren vs a crazed Vader. Sith vs Sith might actually be pretty interesting.
May already have been expounded on, but this is my take -i also think Rey is Rens brother. Although she had flashbacks of being left as a child which doesn't make much sense.Only minor nit-picks overall. Awesome movie in the end. Felt like Rey found her powers far too easily, but part of that seemed to be an overly-obvious attempt at first trilogy nostalgia. Could have used a little more uniqueness and less ANH remake.
That said, the acting and overall quality was first rate; much better than any of the others, and for all the predictability it was more than a little enjoyable. Rey and Finn had great rapport both with each other and with Harrison Ford.
I'm thinking Rey has to be Han and Leia's, probably a twin to Ren. (Note the name similarity!) Luke was a Jedi, and the Jedi generally didn't take wives or have children..wasn't that a huge part of Vader's downfall? That would still make Luke her uncle.
This. In the end Vader was redeemed.Vader isn't coming back IMO. Maybe we will see some scenes where Snoke is sending Vader images/dreams to Ren, which would satisfy both the need to have him in the movie and also make sense.
But Vader isn't going to be back in walking around the star destroyer bridge.
Same. Good post.I honestly don't know what people who didn't like this were expecting. They had one main task for this movie: make something that will reel back in the SW fans of old after being jaded by the prequels while making something for the next wave to latch on to. I think they did that wonderfully for the most part. I went with my 9 year old son who is probably more into Star Wars than I am. We both love the movies, but if I am honest I just watch the prequels to humor him because he loves them and he watches the originals to humor me because he knows I love them. This movie both of us enjoyed equally. Nice blend of new characters and new humor while still keeping the feel of the originals for the old farts. He is going to watch it with mom on Sunday, so I am interested in what she thinks.
Random thoughts on my likes:
- Really thought the action was well done. Looked a good as I hoped from the trailers. Just that alone would have instantly vaulted them over the prequels, but on top of that...
- The acting was damn good for this series of movies. Like somebody stated before we got to see......EMOTION. Rey and Kylo were standouts and really also liked Oscar Issac.
- I know it seems to be 50/50 in here, but I really liked Kylo Ren. Thought he had some good menace to him and is easily one of the better baddies that we have had in the series. The point was to show him as even more of a hot headed version of Vader, and it seems like he is starting at a point with more powers than we saw Vader have in IV, and as we learned he going back to complete his training. Sure he got beat by Rey, but I didn't have a huge problem with it (as I will explain next). I would have been more annoyed if they went the route of the prequels and given us a one-off bad guy for each movie. That was one of their many downfalls.
- Rey was great. Has to be a Skywalker somehow. Would make sense if she was the offspring of Luke and someone else powerful with the force (would need to address that next episode) OR is Kylo's sister. Maybe she was being trained at a young age with Luke and the others, Kylo went on a killing spree, and Luke is the one who dumped her on the desert planet (maybe telling Han and Leia Kylo killed her or something?) again, we will get her story in Ep. 8.
My minor quibbles (and they are minor):
- I will agree they went a tad too far with the nods to ANH. Desert planet, DeathStar 3, droid hiding the plans, all the old characters, bar scene, etc, etc..
- Like above with a couple too many times to the humor well. Few too many snarky comments, and did I really hear a "droid, please" out of Finn?
- Thought Leia was rough, and didn't have much screen presence. Made me wish Kylo Ren killed the other parent.
Overall, I like I stated before, I don't know how a Star Wars fan couldn't like this as is was far and away better than 1-3 that most of us seem to hate. Much better acting and action. The fact that it was too much like A New Hope really kept you from having a blast during the movie. Hell, didn't Return of the Jedi hit damn near every beat that A New Hope did? We aren't reinventing the wheel here.
People are still running with this? Did you guys see a noticeable bulge or something?Rey is Ren's brother.
He was a bit distracted, having just murdered his own father and fulfilled his greatest fantasy, which was besting his grandfather Vader by not giving into sentimentality. Maybe in his post murder euphoria he missed that there were other people there? Can anyone please explain how Ren can stop a phaser mid air being fired at him. But can't stop or even deflect a bowcaster, that he was looking straight at? TIA

Right. But they've definitely borrowed from some of the books. Ben Solo seems to be a combination on Jacen Solo and Kyp Durron. I cannot recall if it is one of them or another who was drawn to the Vader pyre site and felt all this dark side energy that consumed them. Seems Kylo visited that site and got the mask and possibly ashes of Vader. They've said the expanded universe doesn't matter, duhRey and Ren are siblings, duh. The most interesting fan theory I've read is that she's related in some way to Palpatine (granddaughter, some type of cloned DNA or whatever). It would have a lot more resonance, IMO, than having her be Luke or Leia's daughter. She'd have to wonder if she could trust her power.
That's too deep for JJ. Unless the new writer goes with it. I don't know his work. But for JJ, she's definitely a Skywalker of some kind, Leia's or Luke's.How are either of those subtle? I think it's plausible. People can look completely different between when they are 4-5 and when they are 18-20. 15 years is a long time.Maybe Rey isn't Luke's daughter but I can't see any way she is Han and Leia's other kid. The complete lack of recognition for her by all involved (including her brother) makes that entirely impossible to logically explain in my opinion. I also don't think her connection to Luke's lightsaber makes much sense if she's his niece (whereas it makes complete and perfect sense if she's his daughter) but mainly it's the complete and total lack of recognition of her by her family which makes that really impossible to believe in my opinion.
That could be explained by Han and Leia agreeing with Luke that this needed to happen for her protection. Much easier to do that with your niece than your own daughter. It's interesting to note that Maz (or whatever the little creature's name is) specifically asks Han who Rey is and the scene cuts away before he can answer. Very possible Han knew all along Rey was his niece but couldn't say anything due to his agreement with Luke. But him asking Rey to come with him and Chewie could then be viewed as his way of trying to protect his niece now that he's found her.I think it's plausible. And you have the same problem whether it's Luke's kid or Han/Leia's kid. Wouldn't Leia recognize her niece in the same way?
Mr. Robot is a prime example. Dude didn't even recognize his father...I think it's plausible. That's more Disney than the director IMO. They will sue the #### out of somebody if they spill the beans.Personally I just love the fact that people can come up with plausible story lines for Rey being both a Solo or a Skywalker.
I have to assume this is exactly what JJ wanted when he wrote 7 in the hopes to create discussion for 8.
Hopefully Johnson will maintain the NSA level of security that JJ did on 7, while on the set of 8 to protect from this important story line getting out.
http://uproxx.com/movies/2015/12/star-wars-kylo-ren-theory/2/OK SO WE GOT OUT OF OUR SECOND THE FORCE AWAKENS SHOWING AND MY DAD WAS DRIVING US HOME AND OUT OF NOWHERE HE WAS LIKE: .oh my god. w HAT IF KYLO REN CHOSE TO GO TO THE DARK SIDE SO HE COULD HELP THE LIGHT SIDE! AND I WAS LIKE WHAT! SO HE WAS LIKE HEAR ME OUT WHAT IF HE WENT TO THE DARK SIDE JUST SO HE COULD KILL SNOKE!!!!
AND THATS WHY HES SO CONFLICTED, AND THATS WHY HE FEELS THE TEMPTATION OF THE LIGHT SIDE STRONGER THAN THE DARK!!!!!
THATS WHY HE TALKS TO VADERS HELMET, BECAUSE HE IS GONNA FINISH WHAT ANAKIN, THE CHOSEN ONE, STARTED!!! (that's a good point)
HE HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN AWAY FROM HIS FAMILY IN ORDER TO DO THAT! TO BECOME A SITH FULLY AND COMPLETELY YOU HAVE TO SACRIFICE SOMEONE YOU LOVE TO DEATH, IN HIS CASE IT WAS HAN!
THATS WHY HE TELLS HAN HE FEELS LIKE HES BEING TORN APART INSIDE, BECAUSE HE DOESNT WANT TO DO IT AT ALL, BUT ITS THE ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO BECOME A SITH AND COMPLETE HIS TASK!!!!! KYLO LITERALLY UTTER THE WORDS WILL YOU HELP ME TO HAN, AND HAN SAYS ANYTHING YOU NEED (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT I CANT REMEMBER)! WHAT HES ASKING IS IF HAN WILL DIE IN ORDER FOR HIM TO COMPLETE HIS ####### TASK
THATS WHY IT LOOKED LIKE HE KNEW WHO REY WAS, BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO PROTECT HER THATS WHY HE OFFERS HER TO BE HER TEACHER, HE NEEDS SOMEONE AS POWERFUL AS REY ITLL BE LITERALLY THE DARK SIDE AND THE LIGHT SIDE JOINING UP TO DEFEAT ONE ENEMY TOGETHER AS ONE, WHICH IS BASICALLY WHAT THE FORCE IS.
THEY LIVE SIDE BY SIDE IN IT THATS WHY HES SO CONFLICTED ALL THE TIME, THATS WHY HIS FIGHT STYLE ISNT LIKE A SITHS AT ALL!
HAN DYING WOULDNT BE FOR NOTHING, HE LITERALLY DIED SO HIS FAMILY COULD FINISH SAVING THE GALAXY. REY, KYLO, LUKE, LEIA, FINN AND POE ARE GONNA DESTROY THE LAST SITH TOGETHER AND BRING BALANCE TO THE FORCE!!
