Sadly most of that good talk got buried by "I hate the movie you are dumb for liking it/I like the movie you are dumb for hating it" talk.

I like debating theories. Just wish they didn't leave it all up to us to figure out for them.

Shouldn't you wait for the next two movies to lodge that complaint?

It's remarkable the holes people want to point out about this movie when IV-VI had the same. It's a fun movie not the remake of Citicen Kane.

Books have been dismissed except for the parts they like. Then they've taken them and changed the names. I think Rey is a Solo also.

I hope Rey is not the daughter of any old SW characters. She is a much better Jedi .... Rey >>>>> Luke.

Clearly Unkar Plutt is a much better Jedi trainer than Yoda, and Luke as Jedi Master is just an epic fail.

I kinda hope she's no one's daughter. I like the idea of her just being a side-of-the-galactic-road nobody that has the force genes. I don't think everyone should have to be related to someone, but I guess that's too much to ask for.

He also gets tested by the Jedi Council (before being denied entrance into the academy) by Sammy Jackson asking Anakin to guess what he was holding up a picture of (like a "which card is this" type thing) and Anakin I think went 3 for 3 on screen.

I think being able to do stuff like that is typical. When Kyloren was trying to do the mind-reading thing, something kinda clicked with her and she did it back to him. Then she used whatever thing she learned on convincing the stormtrooper to let her out. And she's good at flying. And she defeats an already-injured Kyloren in a duel.

I don't know, that didn't seem too outlandish to me. Luke really didn't have that much training at all. Even the Degobah stuff with Yoda all takes place during the time where Han & Co fly to and get captured at Cloud City - it looks like a couple of days at the Cloud City, but seems longer at Degobah (it's actually a flaw in Empire Strikes Back, but whatever). Next thing you know, Luke is crossing swords with one of the most powerful Jedi ever.

It takes longer to learn how to ski on the bunny slope.

My personal experience showed the fast track is to go down a black diamond on your 2nd run.

I thought Driver was great. And I think he has the potential to be a bad ### villain. In one sense, he's way worse than Vader; Vader couldn't kill his family and turned good when confronted with that choice. Ren went the other way. He's arguably even more evil.

Yep, and arguably has more power from the start than Vader in IV- ie stopping the laser mid shot.

I dunno, Vader just raised his hand and absorbed several point blank shots from Han in Empire. It was cool to stop it mid air, but give me the dude who stops laser blasts with his hand.

Just watched it for the third time.

Interesting thing happened after I saw it a second time. I totally stopped caring about any negative reviews. I think that's the mark of a great film.

I remember after each prequel I'd keep chatting about the films on message boards, try and rationalize away things that many didn't like, I'd get annoyed with the "haters", and I even caught myself defending Hayden Christiansens acting.

Now? I honestly don't care what people on the internet think. I don't know a single friend or close associate that didn't think it was an amazing flick, aside from ONE dorky teenager who is exactly how I imagine 95% of the critics of this film to be.

3 showings in and it's just a classic movie. So many lines are obviously going to be a part of Star Wars lore for a long time.

Serious question: Which lines? I saw it last night ...enjoyed it ...but I'm not remembering specific lines that'll be quotable.

I found Rey to be a great character. At the very end, I wished they'd have ended with the close-up of her face or of Luke's, rather than pulling back to the sweeping overhead shot.

Two things that I didn't like so much. First, as Otis mentioned a week ago, the characters got too chummy too fast. Rey and Phin, in particular, but Poe and Phin as well. I get that they shared some intense experiences, but the mutual admiration was a little too much. No one raised any doubts about Phin, despite the fact that he was the first ever storm trooper to change sides? That ties to the second point, of everything flowing too conveniently. In particular here was the spontaneous plan to infiltrate the First Order base and take down the weapon. No problem, right? But also Rey excelling at everything, and Phin having so many battle skills despite a lack of any real warrior intensity. And Harrison Ford's acting skills died long before his character did.

The other thing I didn't like was having to hiss at a guy in front of me for turning on his phone 15 minutes before the end.

He's no Darth Vader, Count Dooku, or Darth Maul. The premise of the movie is that knowledge of the force is very limited. Luke was born when all but four people who knew the force were still alive. In VII, he's probably in his 50's, and other than Kylo, who else did he train? And Luke's training was pretty limited too. There's not a lot of knowledge of the force around. That's why it is awakening. It's too early for Darth lords like we saw in the other movies. Kylo shouldn't be as powerful as people are expecting. That wouldn't make sense.

Storm troopers are no longer manufactured clones. The clone army was made around 20 years prior to ROTJ, and TFA is 30 years after ROTJ, so those clones are probably wearing depends and eat a steady diet of prunes. Fen doesn't look like Jengo Fett, and the First Order has to give monumental speeches to the troops to keep them in line. I think the whole "Fen is just a storm trooper" argument is weak.

Totally agree but I was the 14 year old kid when Stars Wars first hit the big screen and saw it 6 times the first week. I loved that they finally made a movie that brought the fun back to the series. Didn't so much care that it was essentially a remake and an attempt to pass the baton and could have absolutely done without so much Han & Leia. Not because of the story line but because their acting is just subpar compared to Rey & Phin. Just felt forced to try to get them as many speaking lines as they had.

All that said, enjoyed the movie and was really happy taking the 14 daughter to hear her say afterwards, "I need to see the other 6 now."

Also interesting how Rey's fighting style vs. Ren started out like Obi wan in IV then morphed to Lukes in VI after she gets in touch with the force.

In the end though betting she is Ren's sister, but not twin.

Of course there was tons of good in the old EU. That's why I hate that they just hit the delete button instead of choosing the good ideas to keep. They may ha e a character like Mara Jade but they'll name her Sara Emerald or something to say she was completely their idea.

Yeah, he's not fully evil. He just murdered a guy in cold blood in the first scene and then ordered the storm troopers to massacre a whole village and burn it to the ground.

The fact that R2D2 and C3PO are still around 66+ years after they were built is astonishing - given that most computers are obsolete in 5 years.
