I saw it again. Random thoughts:
- Fin and Rey's ability to fight with Kylo didn't stand out as much the second time. They were both mostly backing up from Kylo the whole time, Rey kinda started kicking his ### after that moment/epiphany/whatever. Fin was mostly getting toyed with until he took a piece out of Kylo's shoulder, then he was cut down pretty quickly. Also, I forgot before that that was Fin's second time using a lightsaber, the first time being against the random stormtrooper who called him a traitor. From that fight, we can probably assume that Fin had some raining with a vibroblade or whatever that thing was, so maybe he's not a total novice.
- I don't know what to make of the Rey/Leia hug at the end of the movie. I may be mistaken, but up to that point, they had never met each other. It was a very affectionate hug for two strangers, even taking into consideration that Leia was mourning and knew that Rey was with Han when he died or whatever. So, I think there's something there, but I don't know what. I don't think she's a Solo, Han definitely didn't give any hint that he knew her or anything. Plus, why would a daughter of the Solos be ditched on a crap planet to basically be an indentured servant. Surely there are better places to hide someone if that is the intent.
- I didn't pick this up the first time around, but there's a line in there about how the First Order found the resistance base, something like "We tracked their reconnaissance aircraft" or something. That is really dumb, lazy writing, and it bothered me. Especially since Kylo had already shown that he was able to break into Poe's mind when he found out what Poe had done with the map to Skywalker. He didn't think to maybe ask him where the Resistance base was at that time?
- I don't think Rey has received prior training. She was clearly 4 or 5 years old when she was ditched on Daaku. I don't think they teach kids how to mind control, and even if she had received some lightsaber training, training at that age would not sufficient explain her ability to compete with Kylo anyways. I think we're just going to find out that she's a natural, and super powerful. Also, Kylo himself tells Snoke that she is "untrained" when he tells Snoke about her.
- Poe Dameron is the best character added to the Star Wars universe since V. Yes, better than Darth Maul.
- R2D2 waking up continues to be kinda dumb.
- Oh and there is strong suggestion that Rey is a Skywalker, even though I'd hate that personally. Maz says something like "That lightsaber was Luke Skywalker's, and before him, his father's. And now it calls to you."
