STAR WARS: EP 7 ***SPOILER ZONE*** - Go here if you've seen it (1 Viewer)

My only theory is that Snoke is actually 18 inches tall and the giant hologram is just him pulling a Wizard of Oz.

Ok, so I have a theory on the identity of Supreme Leader Snoke. It's a totally original theory, although I've drawn inspiration from a couple published sources that I'll link to through the text. It's fairly long, so I'm going to break it out into several posts, but I've already written it up so it's just copy and paste.

I know I'm a huge dork for doing this, but it was fun and got some of my creative juices going. So here it goes....

Identity of Supreme Leader Snoke

So there has been a lot of speculation on the identity of Supreme Leader Snoke. Is he Darth Plagueis, the Emperor reborn, or even Jar Jar Binks (Darth Darth Binks)? But I have a new and unexpected, but ultimately compelling theory on the identity of Snoke.Facts About Snoke

So what do we know about Supreme Leader Snoke.

 • He projects an image of himself that is literally larger than life and shows signs of scarring.
 • He has a history and knowledge with the Skywalker/Solo clan, as evidenced by Leia remarking that he had been following Ben from afar for a long time.
 • He is knowledgeable (but is not necessarily a force user) in the force, as evidenced by him training/guiding young Ben Solo.
 • He had access to Darth Vader’s helmet, as evidenced by Kylo’s later possession of it.
 • He dislikes and wants to destroy the Jedi and Luke Skywalker, as evidenced by his turning Ben and urging the destruction of the Jedi order and Luke.
 • He desires Han Solo’s death, as evidenced by his urging of Kylo to kill his father.
 • He appears to have immense tactical and potentially technological abilities, as evidenced by the First Order from the ashes of the Empire and the apparent technological advances the Order was able to make despite the setbacks to the Empire at the end of RotJ.
So to connect who might fit this profile, we'll go back to when we last saw our heroes....

Our Heroes

We last saw our “heroes” shortly after the destruction of the second Death Star. They were celebrating with their allies, the Ewoks, and Luke cremated his father’s body (in full Vader uniform, including helmet). What they may not have known was the unintended catastrophic event the destruction of the second Death Star was about to have on the forest moon of Endor.

The Endor Holocaust

As described in the Endor Holocaust, the destruction of the second Death Star over Endor caused a mass extinction event on the moon effectively ending life except very simple lifeforms, and rendered the Ewoks effectively extinct. One can only imagine the terror of the last Ewoks as fiery debris, the shuttering of the moon caused by impact events from the Death Star, the burns and illness caused by exotic radiation, and finally the inexorable cloud of dust covered any hint of light from reaching the planet’s surface. Whether the rebels contemplated this consequence or just decided the freedom of the galaxy was worth it remains a question.

Our Knowledge of Ewoks

What do we really know about the Ewoks? As described in Ewoks are Terrifying, we know they are incredibly competent to the point of genius. To elaborate I give the following:

 • They are tactical geniuses, as evidenced by their defeat of a highly trained and more technologically advanced Empire legion. They developed a plan to defeat, "An entire legion of my best troops”, according to Palpatine, equipped with blasters, Speeder Bikes, Imperial Walkers, and protected by a heavily fortified base, with a few hours’ notice using only primitive weapons such as spears, slings, and bows.
 • They are technologically astute to the point of savants, and most likely are far more intelligent than the other races of the galaxy, as evidenced by their ability to ride Speeder Bikes and pilot Imperial Walkers with absolutely no training.
 • They are short and potentially would develop a Napoleonic complex when exposed to the broader galactic lifeforms who would tower above them.
 • They recognize the difference between technological abilities and #######’ magic (i.e. the force), as evidence by the fact that the Empire has been flying around their moon on Speeder Bikes, using blasters, landing on the moon in Tie Fighters and other space ships, and building a giant freaking space station in their skies but all that doesn’t impress them. However, when Luke (through C3PO) displays signs of real unexplainable magic using the force, they instantly recognize that it’s different and unexplainable.
 • They have a fascination with impressive headgear and helmets, as evidenced by both the elaborate headgear of their elders and the gathering of helmets from their defeated enemies. They also had direct access to the funeral pyre of Darth Vader and his helmet.
 • They have an overwhelming reason to hate Luke, Leia, Han and the rest of the rebels for the destruction of their moon and the extinction of their race.
 • An Ewok exposed to the tumultuous last days for Endor may have ended up incredibly scarred by the narrow escape from the destruction of their planet.
 • Given their traumatic exposure to the force, they may be sufficiently motivated to learn about the force and if given access to the Jedi Archives are potentially in a very advantageous position to learn.
So they are tactical/technological geniuses, diminutive and perhaps height sensitive, potentially badly scarred from a narrow escape from the destruction of their planet, obsessed with the force/Skywalkers/Solos, and had direct access to Vaders helmet prior to the destruction of Endor. Yes my friends, its true….Supreme Ewok Snoke is the reality.

So in the next few posts, I'll give a mind's eye point of view on how this may have happened....

Events Leading to the Battle of Endor

So from an Ewok perspective lets look back on the events leading up to the Battle of Endor. You live a relatively peaceful life on the forest moon of Endor. You are unaware of the larger galactic struggle going on around you and have not been impacted by the rise of the Republic and its galactic rule, the conversion to the Empire, and the struggle of the Rebels.

Your first knowledge of a greater galaxy outside of Endor comes from an Empire probe or scout ship. This rapidly turns into a full outpost and shield generator. But for the most part, the soldiers of the Empire don’t go out of their way to bother you. In fact they have a minimal impact on the environment. This is illustrated by the Empire not clearing trees around their bases, not leaving excavated soil, and not littering the planet with waste or pollution. A short time later another interesting event happens as the frame of the Death Star begins appearing in your skies. Activity at the outpost and Shield Generator pick up but the Empire does not mine or use resources from the moon to construct the Death Star, so your life is relatively un-impacted.

You recognize the Empires technological capabilities for what they are, tools and signs of an advanced culture. This technology interests you, It does not awe or cower you. If given the opportunity you may fiddle with it, but you’re not willing to come into full conflict with the Empire in order to obtain or experiment with it. You recognize technology as explainable due to your impressive intellect, are not overwhelmingly impressed with it, and rapidly incorporate it into your daily routine.

The Battle of Endor

After significant progress on the Death Start has been made, another significant event happens. You witness conflict between the Empire’s Stormtroopers and some new, different interlopers. Using your advanced intellect you quickly devise a plan to capture the interlopers, and with relative ease you capture Han Solo (a famed smuggler whos managed to evade the empire for years) and Luke Skywalker (a ####### Jedi Master).

As you are preparing your guests for dinner, the metallic being who is able to converse with you begins to float with no signs of propulsion that the Empire requires. Your advanced intellect recognizes that unlike the technology the Empire uses, this is different, this is unexplainable, this is truly magic.

The wielder of magic and his friends threaten you with “the force” unless you help them defeat the Empire. While you can understand and explain technology, this is something different. It shakes your being to the core. How can you defeat the unexplainable? Your tribe is awed and cowed into helping the interlopers against the Empire.

In a span of hours, the leaders of your tribe develop a sophisticated plan to defeat the Empires best troops using only spears, slings, and bows. The plan is executed to perfection and with only minimal losses youre able to complete all the objectives of “Luke, Han, Leia” and their band of followers. Unbeknownst to you, their ultimate plan was to destroy the Death Star in the skies above you.

The Aftermath / The Endor Holocaust

After a quick rest and celebration your guests pack up and quickly leave the moon. They have been warned about the inevitability of what happens next.

What starts as flares in the sky and distant rumblings, rapidly becomes something more. You watch in horror as flaming balls of fire destroy your home and village. You watch as scores of Ewoks are killed by raging fires and falling trees. You can smell the bodies buring and the smoke and fires chokes your throat. The ground begins to crack and tumble beneath your feet. You feel blood running down your face from the impact of small red hot embers falling from the sky. The fur on your head and neck immolates from the extreme heat. One thought drives you forward, escape. Quickly you realize the only way to survive may be at the Empire’s base. The image of their ships leaving the planet becomes your lifeline.

You flee towards the Empires base. Scrambling through the smoke and fire you come across the funeral pyre Luke had left. You grab the helmet, perhaps you think it might protect you from the falling debris, perhaps it’s just an unconscious reaction your race has for helmets. You make it to the base and are able to find a working ship, perhaps an Imperial Shuttle capable of hyperspace travel. With your technical capabilities you rapidly determine how to operate the ship and narrowly escape certain death on the surface of Endor.

As you peer down on the planet below you, the extent of the devastation becomes evident. You are the only surviving Ewok and, in fact, the only surviving living being from Endor.

The Lead-up to The Force Awakens

As you steer aimlessly through space the anger and hate starts to boil. You picture the faces of your race’s betrayers, Leia, Han, and especially the one known as Luke. As you explore the ships databases you begin piecing together the politics of the greater galaxy. This is enhanced by the ships communicator, which you use to eavesdrop on the Empire’s last struggles against the Rebels and the emerging New Republic. You learn more about the Rebels and the New Republic as they hold up the destroyers of your world as heroes. Your hate for them and the Rebels deepens. A plan begins to form, you will see them dead, you will destroy all they have created and loved, and you will purge the galaxy of the magic of “the force”.

In your plan, your allies against the Rebels will be the remnants of the Empire and you will twist the users of the force against themselves, causing them to exterminate one another. In the databases of you ship you hear tantalizing clues of a way to learn about the magic your enemies use. Your first stop will be Corsucant and the Jedi Archives.

While on Corsucant you’re able to make your first contact with shattered Empire. Only few can know your true identity, the rest are cleverly manipulated through the use of hologram technology. You begin to develop the Empire into a new force that can challenge the New Republic. You begin to modify and develop their technology so they will have an advantage over the Republic.

Finally you begin to track down your enemies, Leia, Han, and especially the one known as Luke. You dive deeply into the Jedi Archives and begin to learn the secrets of the force, both the light and the dark. The secrets revealed in the archives show you ways to corrupt force users, particularly novices to the force who show equal capability in light and dark. Ben is the perfect target. His yearning to be as powerful as his uncle and grandfather will help, as will the artifact you managed to take from the last days of Endor.

Your plan fully developed, you are ready. Your first strike will be against Luke and his emerging new Jedi.

So snoke is a deformed Wicket that learned the human language in the 30 years that he's been cultivating his hate? Not the most unbelievable theory I've heard.

The projection of Snoke is probably not actually what he looks like. A bit like the Wizard of Oz.

I definitely got that impression, at least in terms of his size. The Emperor's first (using the IRL timetable, not the in-universe one) appearance as a hologram featured an outsized image as well.

EP7 is still sitting in 3rd all time for revenue, creeping up on Titanic.

What is interesting about the numbers that if you look at the top 20 revenue generating movies of all time, EP7 has the lowest international % number.

EP7 has moved into 11th place for the all time adjusted revenue list (this is domestic numbers only). They likely won't be able to catch 10th place on this current release.

Wow, only five scheduled show times this Friday. Three of them 3D.

That fell off the table fast.

Yea it's so weird that a movie is almost out of the theatres after 8 weeks.
Which is actually long for these days. Most last about 4-6 weeks. They probably will pull it by end of March to prepare for Blu Ray and digital release.

They have Lego TWA coming in June. So September or October Blu Ray release.

Looking forward to this hitting the cheap theaters. $1 per ticket, $2 for 3D. We already bought the refillable popcorn bowl, so this will be about $13 for me and the 3 oldest boys to see it in 3D.

Ok, finally saw it...here's my thoughts...

The thing I had to keep in mind is that TFA can't be judged like an adult movie - it's an all-ages film but targeted to 8 year olds. Things that would normally be plot holes are just part of it being a kid's space adventure movie. Yes, Rey is practically Superwoman but if you treat TFA like the other 6 movies don't exist then it makes it easier to accept her abilities.

Biggest surprise to me was the humor - almost a comedy the way the jokes kept coming, mainly from Poe and Finn. It was great to see the movie not take itself too seriously (Poe openly mocking Kylo was something you'd never see someone say to Vader).

I felt the new characters (Ren, Kylo, Poe, and Finn) were more likable than any from the other films. I'm probably in the minority that liked Kylo - I inferred that Han and Leia were lousy parents and it was understandable that he would turn out the way he did after being shipped off to military school at a young age.

Overall, it was better than the original Star Wars and I think the next film has a chance to surpass TESB. We shall see.

Ah yes, a film targeted at 8 year olds where a son violently murders his father.

ETA: A PG-13 movie targeted at 8 year olds? :lmao:

It's all about tone. My three year old daughter's favorite movie is one where two girls, one of whom has a mysterious and debilitating disease, are orphaned at a young age when their parents are lost at sea in a violent storm.

What was the tone? In one scene it's slapstick ala Jar Jar with Finn acting like a moron and then the next there's violent murders. Saying it's a kids movie is the same cop out that George Lucas used to use when the prequels were criticized. This movie was rate PG-13. It wasn't for children. It was for man-children.

Yeah I don't know I'd say it was for 8 year olds either. I'd say it had two targets- nostalgic adults and tweens/the next generation of fans. But I see cstu's point that it shouldn't necessarily be judged the way you'd judge a sci-fi film intended only to appeal to an adult audience.

I didn't mean 8 year olds as a slight in any way - I let my 8 year old nephew watch more violent things than this. I was referring to a kid who wouldn't analyze the movie deeply and would just enjoy the ride. Don't think many kids were wondering why the First Order didn't go right to Poe and Finn's crash site right after they stole a Tie Fighter and the order was issued a minute after they took off. It's a fun movie and shouldn't be expected to follow logic since it's not meant to be that type of movie.

PG-13 means a parent should watch it with a kid under 13, not that kids under 13 shouldn't watch it. Besides, kids into Star Wars don't get squeamish over killing.

Yeah. A shame the sugar buzz only got it to 3rd place all time. :eyeroll:
11th
1st
1st all time domestic revenue3rd all time world wide revenue

11th all time adjusted revenue domestic (many of the 10 ahead have benefitted from being rereleased over the years).
Today, on its 50th day of release, Ep7 is expected to cross $900 million domestic. The 1st film ever to do that.

This weekend, Ep7 is expected to cross $2 billion worldwide. Only the 3rd film to ever do that, and the 2nd to do it on its initial release.

That's one hell of a sugar buzz.

I guess I just remember the days when movies seemed to hang around forever. Seems like Raiders of the Lost Ark was in theaters for a year.

Probably mis-remembering that.
