Start Hiding Money--Like a Lot of People (1 Viewer)

Easy solution: you set up a mint account that aggregates all your accounts.

Then you pull a credit report on you and your spouse every single year (free)

The only downside to this is it makes gift giving miserable because we both get a text alert every time there's a transaction on any credit card or bank account.

But it makes sure there is a check and balance on every transaction... if i get the idea to buy or do something stupid, I eventually don't because i know i have to defend the purchase... and vice versa.

No penny goes unchecked at the dentist household

yes marriage but no trust.com

Mint is a great budgeting tool, but I fail to see how it's a solution to the problem cited in the article. If you're hiding an account from your spouse, you're HIDING it. Thus, you're not going to link it to Mint.

Dentist has it figured out. He's not the tightwad he's perceived as, just doesn't waste it when he doesn't need to.

I have about $400 in change hidden in a box. I add to it secretively, like Tony Soprano, looking over my shoulder several times before dropping in a few dimes. I figure in 10 years I'll have enough to splurge on something nice for myself, like a cape or 3 hookers at once.

My wife handles the finances but I know how much we have in savings and investments.

She could be hiding money, but I don't think she is. It's possible but not something I'm worried about.

Hiding money is a hell of a lot better to me than spending money.

Bingo. Amazed at how few people figure this out.

Your spouse can't hide your money if it's all accounted for. If you yourself want to hide money, do the opposite of what I suggest

Not married but my sister tells me every so often about things her husband blew money on (credit) that she doesn't think he needs. She pays the bills and he makes it tougher, but he makes the most. He really can't hide big money things.
