State Hockey Championship Game Ends in Tie (1 Viewer)

Surprised dentist doesn't want to blindfold the players or put them on roller skates or some other gimmick to ensure there isn't a tie game. When a game goes 7 overtimes, I am not sure how anyone can honestly say that a tie isn't warranted in that situation.

Clearly, the teams were evenly matched.

I would much rather tie a game after 7 overtimes than lose. I would much rather tie a game after 7 overtime than lose in a shootout or some gimmick like pulling goalies or going to 1-on-1.

Everyone who is saying that this game will be talked about for years to come, have its own notoriety, etc. are exactly right.

yeah, making high school kids keep playing till they drop is the way to go

smart thinking in this thread

as for watching a "gimic" lkie a shootout, once a hockey game gets to a certain point it is just as gimicky as a shootout. It is no longer about hockey at all and just about who can fend off exhaustion. By 2 or 3 overtimes there is no better team and luck is going to decide the outcome. Why not just do a shootout and be done with it.

in any case, since a shootout was not an option here, i cannot see how anyone thinks calling the game was the wrong choice. These are high school kids, not NHLers. This is a game, not a matter of life and death.

Sure, a tie is warranted after 7 overtimes. The game should never get to 7 overtimes. There should be some sort of rule in place to determine a winner long before that.

Clearly, the teams were evenly matched.

No they're not. In Michigan there was a state championship soccer game that ended in a tie and co-champions in 2003. It's probably happened elsewhere too. It got its 15 minutes of fame, then they changed their moronic rules so that somebody would actually win in the future, and everybody moved on.

for the record that USA v Russia shootout was among the, if not the, most exciting moments of the Olympics

shootouts are awesome

same thing in soccer

Tie >>>>>> shootout
Fine, but there are other ways to settle it then.

Result >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>tie>shootout
A tie is a result.

I really don't get your anger towards ties. By your logic, you hate results which are outliers/regressions. If two teams are so equal that they are tied after 7 period, any other result in your approach would be a travesty.

:goodposting:

When the best part of your sport is the shootout at the end that says a lot about your sport.
